epwar Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Note to UFC Lightweights: A win over unranked Diego Sanchez apparently gets you a title shot nowadays. LMAO. 1
epwar Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Also probably they didn't want Aldo out until December as well.
Guest Edwin Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Note to UFC Lightweights: A win over unranked Diego Sanchez and threatening to leave negotiating a new contract apparently gets you a title shot nowadays. LMAO.
Guest Edwin Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Also probably they didn't want Aldo out until December as well. And they can probably have Aldo rematch Mendes.
glfpunk Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Note to UFC Lightweights: A win over unranked Diego Sanchez apparently gets you a title shot nowadays. LMAO. Let's pretend that's his only fight in his career, that makes perfect sense. 1
smitlick Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 So I missed that part where Melendez resigned.. Did the UFC match the offer?
muhammedboehm Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 So I missed that part where Melendez resigned.. Did the UFC match the offer? Yes
Zero Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Oh shit! Top contenders gonna be using Bellator now, or does nobody else have the balls?
epwar Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Note to UFC Lightweights: A win over unranked Diego Sanchez apparently gets you a title shot nowadays. LMAO. Let's pretend that's his only fight in his career, that makes perfect sense. Jeez, and here I was working under the assumption that title shots are earned on what you have done recently in the organization you're currently working for. Anyway, looks like my prediction for Khabib being completely ignored in the title scene in Elsalvajeloco's thread has already come true.
JoshEngleman Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I actually think this is perfect, minus icing the title for the show. RDA/Khabib winner can fight Grant (if he can ever fight), Thomson, maybe Barboza if he beats Cerrone. It's lining up nicely. Khabib needs a win against someone currently ranked. Missing weight in the Trujillo fight doesn't help either. RDA is being ignored way more than Khabib is.
Elsalvajeloco Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 If anything, this matchmaking benefits Khabib. Let him build up his resume and tear through the Diaz and Cerrone section of lightweight. He doesn't have a row of names on his record like Benson, Thomson, and Melendez do. Dos Anjos can at least give him a different look that Trujillo and Healy couldn't. If he racks up two wins, that sets him up perfectly to replace Pettiis or Melendez should one of them get hurt. 2
Guest Edwin Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 It sucks watching how far Mamoru and Yoshiro Maeda have fallen off. Mamoru was a guy considered a top 125 lb. fighter for years and even considered a possibility he could have a run in the UFC flyweight division even after his loss to Darrell Montague, then he just completely fell apart and now he's pretty much irrelevant. Czar Sklavos was the final nail in the coffin. I think he really should consider hanging them up. Maeda has had a shaky inconsistent career for the past 7 or 8 years, but watching him go on his current losing streak, I think he's also on the downfall. He was never the same after Bibiano Fernandes triangle choked him. I thought he would benefit from the drop to 125 lbs., but he hasn't found success in the division yet. He'll probably be remembered by most fans because of that great fight he had with Miguel Torres in the WEC years ago and because of the double heel hook featured in the fight.
Guest Edwin Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 If you have $25K to throw around on unnecessary, useful things, why not purchase Mark Coleman's PRIDE 2000 GP giant check and trophy on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/281272848214 Yes, only $24,500!What a steal!
smitlick Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Mans obviously desperate for Money... Would like to see him bullshitting around on Fight Pass with some other guys about the early days of the UFC.
Zero Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Didn't Coleman just do TUF with Penn? Do the coaches on the teams not get paid?
Ace Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Roxy Modafferi has signed with Invicta at 125 lbs.
Guest Edwin Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Roxy Modafferi has signed with Invicta at 125 lbs. Yeah, they signed a ton of other fighters along with her a while ago. I can't remember who they were they signed exactly though. As likable as Roxy maybe to some, she came up in the days where WMMA was very limited on fighters and as proven the sport has passed her by. Also a ton of fights have been announced for upcoming UFC FN cards. Big Nog/Big Country headline UFC FN 39 in Abu Dhabi along with Leites/Trevor Smith, Andrew Craig/Chris Camozzi, Ramsey Nijem/Beneil Dariush, Alp Ozkilic/Dustin Ortiz, Johnny Bedford/Rani Yahya and newly signed Jim Aers/Alan Omer also on the same card. Also Cariaso/Smolka has been announced for UFC FN 40 in Cincinnati, Ohio along with your new FOTY; Kyoji Horiguchi/Darrel Montague in Kyoji's 125 lb. flyweight debut fight.
Elsalvajeloco Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 This might not make folks happy but Greg Savage is hearing rumors that Rich Franklin might be on the Cincy card. Oh yeah, Anderson is already back in the gym hitting pads: http://www.mmaweekly.com/blog-video-former-ufc-champ-anderson-silva-already-hitting-the-mitts
LethalStriker Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 If Franklin is on the Cincy card and it's in fact his final fight, then a fight with Alan Belcher who's going up to 205 would be an appropriate fight. Since Belcher is an established name in the sport but not currently in title contention.
TheVileOne Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I thought Belcher was going on sabbatical? Sounded like he wanted to take a break from fighting in his last interview.
Guest Edwin Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Belcher's probably the best they can get for Franklin to fight at this point considering all the other semi-recognizable middleweights are already set up for upcoming fights. Forgot to mention, Bart Palaszweski retired and Eddie Wineland vs. Johnny Eduardo at UFC FN 40.
DreamBroken Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Roxy Modafferi has signed with Invicta at 125 lbs. Yeah, they signed a ton of other fighters along with her a while ago. I can't remember who they were they signed exactly though. Peggy Morgan was the other from TUF that signed with Invicta. Other than that a lot of international fighters and debuting ones. Amber Brown, Herica Tiburcio, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Livia Renata Souza, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Ashley Greenway, Mellony Geugjes, Delaney Owen, Rachel Ostovitch, Valerie Letourneau, Irene Aldana, Cindy Dandois, and Faith Van Duin.
Elsalvajeloco Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Here is the cast for the upcoming TUF Brazil season: http://globoesporte.globo.com/lutas/tuf-brasil/noticia/2014/02/conheca-os-32-participantes-da-terceira-temporada-do-tuf-brasil.html Vitor Miranda's nickname being Lex Luthor is the best. Anyway, I wonder if Marcos Pezao can do anything. Dropping to middleweight may help him out a bit.
