J.T.
I'm including manga and movies that were kinda sorta adoptations. 1. Oldboy (the original) 2. Dredd 3. Akira 4. Deadpool 5. Sin City 6. Watchmen 7. Blade 8. V For Vendetta 9. Wanted 10. Kick-Ass Sorry folks, I hated 300.
odessasteps
Whats funny is that Barbarella is now rated PG. I would put Road to Perdition and A History of Violence prob as my top 2.
J.T.
Whats funny is that Barbarella is now rated PG. I would put Road to Perdition and A History of Violence prob as my top 2. I tried to keep my picks fairly mainstream as far as the sources go. Not too many people I knew realized that Road to Perdition and History of Violence were actually based on graphic novels. I agree that they are great movies that deserve to be high on someone's list. Only old guys like us remember Barbarella.

It's one of my favourite films period.

The Natural
I submitted my original post and this on my phone. I'll do my Rated-R Top Ten Comic Book films when I'm off it.
Casey
Watchmen is my favorite, sorry guys. Fucking love that movie. Akira is a close second.
Mistah Na1m4rk
I loved Dredd. I had no expectations for that movie and couldn't take my eyes away from it once it started. I haven't been so disappointed by the lack of a sequel for a film since Master and Commander.
odessasteps
Does Heavy Metal count?
J.T.
Does Heavy Metal count? Probably, but other than the novelty of cartoon tits is it really better than the worst movie on your list?
odessasteps
I would put it above a couple of the pictures on your list. Not as bad as trumpeting the Perils of Gwendolyn in the land of yic yak.
Jingus
I'm not gonna count anime movies, because that opens up a HUGE side category which is easily large enough to be its own separate thing. Just listing live-action adaptations, I'd rank 'em something like this: 1. Cemetery Man 2. Sin City 3. Oldboy (2003) 4. The Crow 5. Road to Perdition 6. Blade 2 7. A History of Violence 8. Punisher: War Zone 9. Deadpool 10. Constantine Finally, add 1982's Conan the Barbarian on there as an asterisk, if you can count it (the character first appeared in pulp novels, but he was in a whole shitload of comics over the years).
keith_h
Would Kingsman: The Secret Service count? Or is the comic to obscure?
odessasteps
Would Kingsman: The Secret Service count? Or is the comic to obscure? I would say the comic is on same level of comic versions of the other Millar comics turbed movies Wanted and Kick Ass.
Brian Fowler
Ghost World is my number one, which should surprise no one.
J.T.
I would put it above a couple of the pictures on your list. But what about YOUR list?
JRGoldman
Fowler is right about Ghost World. Does Snowpiercer count?
Jingus
Fowler is right about Ghost World. Does Snowpiercer count? Ooh, shit, yeah it does, good catch. Throw that one in my list at #4 and knock all the others down a peg. EDIT: aw fuck, I just thought of an example which pretty much does an "etch-a-sketch in an earthquake" on everyone's list: the entire Lone Wolf & Cub series is based on a manga. That's six badass R-rated blood-soaked samurai swashbucklers in a row! SEVEN, if you count Shogun Assassin as its own separate thing. And there's a few other manga-based action flicks which count for this sort of thing, ranging from Riki-Oh to Lady Snowblood to Ichi the Killer to the I'm-told-they're-good live action Death Note movies. Brian Fowler
Does a film that was reheard pg-13 and then had an r-rated cut released on home video count?
Jingus
Does a film that was reheard pg-13 and then had an r-rated cut released on home video count?Trying to shoehorn in Daredevil, huh? I dunno if that's a rabbit hole we wanna go down, since then everything from Fritz the Cat to Swamp Thing suddenly becomes possibly fair game. Brian Fowler
DD and The Wolverine are both something I'd at least consider. Wolverine was actually the first one I thought of.
AxB
What about Battle Royale? That was a manga before it was a book before it was a movie, right?
Brian Fowler
I thought the novel came first, but I'm not sure.
Jingus
Yeah, novel first, so it goes on the same asterisk side-list as Conan.
