J.T. Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Gonna be wonderful when Rice serves his suspension and is back in time to wear pink cleats/gloves and a pink towel all through October. Don't forget the standing ovation that he is going to get in Baltimore. You really think that the same people who cheered in a scrimmage are going to boo now? Not in the NFL. And before I get bashed on it, I realized that if Ray Rice played on every other team in the NFL the fan reaction would be the same. The reaction in Baltimore now that the video is out is fuck Ray Rice. He is done here. This. My girlfriend works IT at Fort Meade, Maryland; home of the NSA. Her travels on post have revealed that Rice's stock with Ravens fans has fallen faster than a dot com's in late 2000. His charitable donations and subsequent marriage to Janay Palmer following the assault have not raised his popularity.
Burgundy LaRue Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 There are *some* circumstances where a murder could be somewhat understood. There is no justification for punching your financee and dragging her limp body out of an elevator.
RIPPA Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Aww... you are all going to end up making me close this thread before the Giants torment me and the Lions torment Fowler....
J.T. Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Pot Roast just tweeted that Ray Rice should be kicked out of the NFL. For an active player in a league that has/had murderers in it, that's bold http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24701021/current-former-nfl-players-tweet-out-intense-criticism-of-ray-rice Hey, they put up statues to guys that get away with double murder in Baltimore, so long as they help the team win Super Bowls. Aww... you are all going to end up making me close this thread before the Giants torment me and the Lions torment Fowler.... Coversation is heated but civil. Burgundy hasn't called me an asshole yet. 1
odessasteps Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I predict i see people wearing Rice jerseys at work today.
RIPPA Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Everything is going here so when it turns bad it is contained. Right now I am remembering JT's old signature that quoted Bas Rutten that went something to the effect of "I've Been Around..."
glfpunk Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Its not as if the Security People at Revel saved it in case someone (including the NJ State Police) wanted it and they might be willing to let it slip out. Not that I know anyone in security at Revel or anything... EDIT: Revel's not getting shut down... yet. Just up for sale. Oh god, you leaked it, didn't you. And sorry to tell you about Revel, but it's closed as of the 2nd. Here's video of them kicking everyone left out, via fire alarm: This is kind of off topic but on the subject of the Revel closing- I go to Philly for work a few times a year. While I'm up there I work night shift for 13hrs a night every night but I travel up there during the day, work the following day and then transition to nights the following night. So that second day we try to stay up as late as possible so that we will be able to sleep the following day in preparation for night shift and we do that by driving to AC and going to the casinos. Every time we go AC gets worse and worse. The casinos have just been dead the last few times and it's just a dark, sad place. I would not be surprised to hear of any casino closings to be honest.

Raziel Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Well, 4 down, with 2 more suspected to go down before the end of the year. AC being a shithole plus NY and Philly legalizing gambliing killed AC dead.
BillThompson Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Gonna be wonderful when Rice serves his suspension and is back in time to wear pink cleats/gloves and a pink towel all through October. I have caught myself coming dangerously close to finding a sliver of benefit of doubt to give Ray McDonald, myself. Or at least thinking "you idiot, the team needs you" as much as "you idiot, beating your wife is wrong." Sports team loyalty makes hypocrites of us all. It's hard to stick to your guns on a situation like this, but I've managed to with the Patriots. I won't watch them as long as domestic abuser Julian Edelman is on the team. Every so often I'll turn on a game, then Brady will complete a pass to Edelman and I'll remember how much I loathe his actions and turn the game off. Of course, I'm sure there are people on the Cubs and Red Wings I should take this approach with as well, and I don't, and that does make me a hypocrite.
Vincey Greene Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I know I'm a hypocrite. I had the Cam jersey rocking yesterday even as Despicable Human Being Greg Hardy tore it up. I do hope we don't extend him though. That's something, right? RIGHT?
Dolfan in NYC Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Schefter is quite pissed: http://deadspin.com/adam-schefter-is-fed-up-with-the-nfl-1631937239
RIPPA Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Jay Glazer is on a roll too if you look at his Twitter timeline
Death From Above Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Glazer sounds like if you talked to him just right he might get some of his UFC buddies to pay Ray a visit.
Raziel Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 http://www.nflshop.com/Baltimore_Ravens_Gear/Ray_Rice_Baltimore_Ravens_Womens_Draft_Him_Shimmer_V-Neck_T-Shirt_-_Pink So the NFL shop might want to go and take those down pretty quick, although the customer comments are amazing. So, Goodell's taking an enormous amount of shit for this. Odds that this takes him down? To say he mishandled this at this point is the Understatement of the Millenium.
Burgundy LaRue Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 So, Goodell's taking an enormous amount of shit for this. Odds that this takes him down? To say he mishandled this at this point is the Understatement of the Millenium. Depends. If Goodell saw the video and made one of the dumbest decisions of all time--that's horrible, but could be chalked up to bad judgment, especially with him coming in with the new punishment guidelines in some half-ass attempt to save face. But if he's lying about not seeing the video in an attempt to cover? I wouldn't want to be Goodell. Even if he didn't personally see it and someone with the NFL offices did but didn't relay how bad it was. . .yikes.
J.T. Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 What Burgundy said. If Goodell saw the video and only levied a two game suspension, it will rank up there with "Who cares if the Indians surround us? We have horses and guns!" as one of the worst tactical responses in US history. Plaxico Burress will have received a worse censure for accidentally shooting himself in the leg than Ray Rice got for deliberately striking his fiance. 1
Jerry Hattrick Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 It looks like he's not making any friends in the sports world. They want his ass gone. ftw.usatoday.com/2014/09/nfl-player-reaction-ray-rice EDIT: had to take the http// off of it
odessasteps Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 This is "the biggest black eye for the league?" Jovan Belcher? Leonard Little? Rae Carruth?
J.T. Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 This is "the biggest black eye for the league?" Jovan Belcher? Leonard Little? Rae Carruth? Ray Lewis? 2
Reed Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 The biggest issue for me is how he dragged her out of the elevator like a bag of potatoes. Even if you think he acted suddenly--how he treated her after the assault takes the cake. Ray simply had no regard for his financee/wife at that point, IMO. Not to mention that she could have died from the blunt trauma of hitting the elevator rail. As for TMZ getting the video--Harvey Levin knows how to get the goods. The NFL could have gotten the video too, but I imagine they were hoping this would die down by now. When really, it's getting worse. Yeah, that was what struck me. Lashing out at her was horrible enough, but his actions afterwards were so callous and calculated. Not "Oh my God, what have I done?" The guy didn't give a shit. Doorman/security man didn't seem too bothered either.
evilwaldo Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 The CBA only allowed for a maximum two week suspension and Smith would fire off a lawsuit at the first sniff of Goodell overreaching. He was stuck in a horrible situation. Now that the truth is out he should go back and revisit it. The best thing for Goodell to do is to just come clean but he is a lawyer and that will never happen. It will be more CYA mode to make everything disappear. The best thing would be the Ravens cutting him and Rice sits out a year.
Sammy Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I'm not up on the NFL rulebook, so if someone could clarify this it would be appreciated. I realize that Goodell can't up the suspension as per the CBA, but could the team give him a separate suspension?
