DouglasC Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Let's start off by meeting your first Ottawa Redblacks. 1
Death From Above Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Kruasnick is the only loss of any significance for Edmonton, but even then I don't think it's that big a deal.
DEAN Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Awesome! They got Thomas DeMarco, qb from ODU.
Pete Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 The league structure seems weird with 9 teams. Has anyone really stood out for a potential 10th location or are they nowhere near ready to poke that bear yet?
odessasteps Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 From listening to TSN, people seem to want a team in Atlantic Canada
Serious Darius Bagfelt Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Problem is no one wants to own a team in Atlantic Canada or build a stadium for it. Dont worry as fast as you can say Glieberman the Ottawa Stupidteamnames will be in the Ottawa football graveyard with the Rengades and the old Riders
ChesterCopperpot Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Halifax or Moncton would be the main candidates I guess
Death From Above Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Yeah the fan support is in theory there, the issue is stadium financing. Other option might be Quebec City. But I think Halifax is probably the front runner. I would love to see it. I am a big believer in the potential of a 10th Canadian team.
Serious Darius Bagfelt Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I would like the possibility of Quebec City explored since there is always talk of how big amatuer football is in Quebec and you cant deny the success at the college level but Q City is already spending a lot on the new hockey arena. Its an intriguing opportunity though. But again until a money man comes forward and says he wants to own a team all expansion and stadium talk is moot. 10 teams seem like a must though. I know they really wanted Ottawa back but I would have had a plan for a 10th team in place to give the league some balance. Maybe they are expecting the Toronto Argos to call it quits
cubbymark Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Even if Atlantic Canada or Quebec City get a team, logically they would be in the East, no? So would Winnipeg or Hamilton be sent out to the West? If so, then you'd get 3-4 Banjo Bowls between Winnipeg and Saskachewan, which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
Death From Above Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 WInnipeg is coming (back) to the west starting next season. East will be Montreal-Toronto-Hamilton-Ottawa.
odessasteps Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 I dont think they would to separate Argos and Ti-Cats. Winnipeg wiuld make the most sense.

elizium Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Great, that's what the Bombers need...two more losses.
Death From Above Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 I realize I'm on incredibly thin ice making fun of any other team after this last season, but you know the Bombers season was horrific beyond belief when swapping them in the East for an expansion team has a legitimate chance of making the conference tougher.
elizium Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Well, the Rouge et Noir (sorry, but that's way better than RedBlacks) at least have a legitimate quarterback, so...yes. But don't worry, we're going to build through the draft and take more guys no one has ever heard of, who will likely never play for us. 1
cubbymark Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 WInnipeg is coming (back) to the west starting next season. East will be Montreal-Toronto-Hamilton-Ottawa. I missed that, thanks. I still think it's weird one division has four teams and the other five.
ChesterCopperpot Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Anthony Calvillo is retiring - there's a press conference at 11am this morning http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=441750
Death From Above Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 It's time, I'm glad he made the right choice. Even though he's always played a villain in my own football world, I have no desire to watch him pull a Favre and just hang around a couple years too long. He's done everything there was to do, he's still got his health, it makes sense.
Kuetsar Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 I apologize for my ignorance, but what in the blue hell is a Red Black anyway?
elizium Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Nothing. According to this article, "Red stands for desire, black stands for power". Every Ottawa team has has a red and black colour scheme. The real reason they choose that name is so they can stick an R on the helmet and pretend its the Rough Riders. http://www.ottawasun.com/2013/06/08/ottawa-redblacks-president-jeff-hunt-writes-why-the-name-was-chosen-for-the-cfl-team I've been sticking with calling them the Rouge et Noir, it at least sounds classy,
Death From Above Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 I thought it was some kind of lumberjack reference. But "nothing" was my other guess. They're the Rough Riders. That's what I called the Renegades too. That's what I'll call the ALL CAPS REDBLACKS. First American football fan who makes fun of the dual Roughriders will be referenced to the SEC with its 48 Tigers and 15 Bulldogs.
Dewar Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 "Who are we? The Wildcats! And who are we gonna beat? The Wildcats!!!!" They really need to call them Rough Riders just so that one skit on Just For Laughs that Comedy Network airs every other week about naming teams RoughRiders is current again.
Serious Darius Bagfelt Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Lots of respect for Anthony Calvillo. From being one of 11 or 12 QBs invited to tryout for the Las Vegas Posse to being shit canned by Hamilton to over 70000 yards. He will be missed in Montreal
