RIP Chuck Berry

Sad that, in the wake of his passing, most of the takes have somehow involved references to Back to the Future.

Kind of a legend in this city here. He was still performing downtown just a little while back.

This has engendered a lot of discussion about art vs. artist on Facebook.

I like the story Bruce Springsteen once told about playing with Chuck. He'd just show up with his guitar to a venue and use whatever musicians were around as his band apparently.

That was the reasoning behind the movie Hail Hail Rock & Roll. Berry was pretty much half assing it and showing up to cash the checks, grabbing whoever from gig to gig. Keith Richards wanted to have at least one documented performance of Berry with a well rehearsed, first class band.
