Rest In Peace Gordie Howe, Mr. Hockey has left us

Recommended Posts

What shitty news to wake up to.

This is one of those people, a product of a specific time and place, they really don't make them like that anymore.

A sad day, but he's no longer suffering. RIP Mr. Hockey.

A true legend and beloved figure in Detroit.  So awesome that he was able to recover enough to celebrate his birthday at The Joe this last season.

Along with Howard Baldwin Gordie is the single most important figure in the history of hockey in Hartford. His signing with us legitimized the Whalers in the eyes of the hockey world and is why we ended up in the NHL. Baldwin did an op-ed in the Courant pleading for a statue to be erected outside the XL Center in Mr Hockey's honor in recognition for what he did for the city and state, and I think it's long overdue.

Yeah no doubt Howe and Bobby Hull did a ton to legitimize the WHA on the whole. Howe must have felt under particular pressure coming out of retirement, and in a way risking his reputation to do it. All he did was come up with a 100 point season.
