BalancingAct Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Sorry, I fell asleep during some lullaby on Fox. What did I miss?
Elsalvajeloco Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 You have to love the John Williams score underneath the Cormier-Cummins sizzle reel.
epwar Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Internet currently being flooded by the "Machida's fights are always excellent chess matches" guys. That's my cue to bolt. I'll do the totals tomorrow.
Zero Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Am I a bad person for wishing Mousasi would have knocked Machida clean out with that illegal upkick? Damnit. I miss you crazy Japan
The Natural Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 This show ties the record for most decisions at a UFC event with ten, shared with the recent UFC 169!
jstout Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I'm sorry I was channeling my inner Chris Berman when I decided to hand out the following nickname: In the blue corner ... Nicholas "I'm Proud to be an Okie from" Musoke!
Guest Edwin Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I was working, anything I need to watch or should I just forget this card happened and watch the NBA All Star weekend instead which featured a hideous Slam Dunk Contest again from what I heard?
goc Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Well I guess there's no reason for me to check this one out. I keep wanting to get back into UFC but it never seems to take any time I actually watch UFC.
Zero Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Don't bother checking anything from this card out, you're wasting your time. Here is all you need to see from the dunk contest http://giant.gfycat.com/ShinyOpenFossa.gif and watch the All-Star game tonight.
twiztor Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 so the first two "performance of the night" awards go to the guys who got the only KO and the only SUB. funny. 1
smitlick Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I actually watched UFC 169 instead. Damn that Trujillo/Varner fight was great. Recorded this show and will watch it eventually. How was the Jacare fight? 1
hammerva Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 So the purpose of Cormier talking shit about Cummins on Fox Sports 1 (shown last night) was what? I mean if there is some "beef" between the two then maybe 5% of the MMA community know about it and/or care about it. Still think it is weird that in MMA they actually like to use terms like "heel" when describing people. Thank god nobody is trying to call themselves a "babyface" in MMA
Elsalvajeloco Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 I actually watched UFC 169 instead. Damn that Trujillo/Varner fight was great. Recorded this show and will watch it eventually. How was the Jacare fight? I thought it was interesting. It was more like a couple of his longer fights in Strikeforce. I thought it was pretty clear (before and early on in the fight) Carmont wasn't going down easily. Jacare still has some improvements to make in terms of technique. Carmont is very good defensively as a striker and easily evaded some of the punches Jacare was pushing. Jacare made a couple good adjustments, but clearly should not take a fight with Machida. Jacare is an orthodox puncher who needs to get inside on people to hit them. His reach isn't that good. Machida would be a stylistic nightmare for him unless Jacare could land the best hooks of his career. So the purpose of Cormier talking shit about Cummins on Fox Sports 1 (shown last night) was what? I mean if there is some "beef" between the two then maybe 5% of the MMA community know about it and/or care about it. It reminded me of the stuff HBO used to do in the early to mid 90s. It was.....different. A little bizarre but different. 1
TheVileOne Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Honestly I want to see to Jacare get the next title shot. I think he deserves it more and it would make for a more exciting fight. Book Machida vs. Rockhold next. At this rate though, I'd say there's a good chance of Weidman or Belfort getting injured, so someone might have to step up for that spot anyway.
Guest Edwin Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Internet currently being flooded by the "Machida's fights are always excellent chess matches" guys. That's my cue to bolt. I'll do the totals tomorrow. Chess isn't as boring as Machida's style.
Zero Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Machida's style uses countering a ton, so it will always be dull against other counter strikers. Mousasi did eat a helluva head kick from Machida, guy just kept walking forward.
Elsalvajeloco Posted February 19, 2014 Author Posted February 19, 2014 This show did the highest FS1 rating since the first show in Boston. 1
keith_h Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 So is Machida a draw or was it the NASCAR lead in?
throughsilver Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 So the purpose of Cormier talking shit about Cummins on Fox Sports 1 (shown last night) was what? Thank god nobody is trying to call themselves a "babyface" in MMA 'Heel' seems to have been a pretty common slang term in the past in America. It's used to describe a bad guy, a jerk.
