elizium
And yeah, this Latvian kid is putting in work. What a performance, it would be 15-1 without him, no kidding he's dehydrated.
elizium
Where the hell would Canada be without Doughty? MVP of the team by far, he's been in fuck you mode all tournament.
pipGofern
Of course a defensemen scores... Silly Latvia, you could've let the guys down low go free, all you had to do was collapse on the points...

elizium
What a game. This has been like the Battle of Stalingrad...in Sochi. It wouldn't be so unnerving, if the few chances Latvia is getting weren't all so close. I fear Price might give one up due to boredom.
S.K.o.S.
No idea if this has been mentioned on the broadcast, but apparently Yzerman actually drafted that Latvian goalie last year. Fifth round, I think.
elizium
Latvia's maroon number is also far and away the best jersey in the tournament. Such a sharp look.

C'mon, Russia was never taking that one from us.
pipGofern
They just mentioned it on NBC. Somebody needs to photoshop the three Canadian coaches as the Three Wise Men of the North. I'd love to see Babcock in a Grand Wizard turban.

The Man Known as Dan
So, expectations for the US/Canada game... Backes-Brown-Callahan, which did a really good job against the Jagr line today, will be matched up with Crosby and whoever. Crosby has never scored a goal against the Blues. Backes is the main reason why. The US having the 2 seed and, thus, last chance, could be a very key factor. If the US get beat, I got 5 bucks says it's because the Orpik-Martin pairing is abused. They the Ryans and Kirk-Fowler have been strong, but that's our hole. Martin was not very good today imo.

sabremike
Oh no, the Isles season is ov... *looks at standings* Yeah, It's already over at this point. Oh, and I've heard a rumor that Ted Nolan will be fired and replaced by Sabretooth. Of course this will have nothing to do with the Sabres wanting to be terrible for the next few years to get the top pick in the next few drafts (and yes, I know how well that worked for the Oilers). Charlie M.
It's pretty clear that the perceived gap between Canada/USA and the rest of the world hasn't closed because Canada/US haven't peaked yet. Everyone else probably is getting better but so are we. Several Olympics ago, women's hockey looked funny on the big ice because they were slow and couldn't shoot all that well. Now it looks like any other hockey game.
Death From Above
Shannon Szabados has a butterfly that is as technically good as any man's. She's a really impressive goalie. US women's team looks flat out faster than us, to be honest.
Death From Above
HOLY SHIT I mean there's only one good matchup in women's hockey, but it's really, really good.
Charlie M.
That was fucking nuts. The ref, the puck hitting the post, Natalie Spooner going Mario Lemieux and just missing, the two goals. Wow.
odessasteps
I heard someone say the goalies in the rest of the world are closing the gap, mainly due to playing us college hockey. But same isnt true for forwards and esp defensewomen.
