Eh - he still has to work for the organization. It isn't that good

BTW - the Wiz promoted top assistant Brian Keefe to be interim HC

I made a joke at the beginning of the game that Luka would hit 80 because of his hot start. Little did I know that the Hawks shit defense would actually let him damn near get there.

Btw, 73 is tied for FOURTH MOST OF ALL TIME.  But people get on tv and try to tell you that SGA is better 🙄

Running this back from previous:

Wilt Chamberlain is the all time leader in career 70+ point games, with 5.

Second place is now a nine way tie with 1 each.

And a new one

40% of all nights in NBA history where there were two 60+ point scorers have happened this week.

I had a chuckle when Mark Followill was running down all the 70 point games in history, and half of them were Wilt. I'm always surprised that MJ or Rockets era Harden never had one. The Booker 70 piece is still probably the most gross and forgettable of all of them.

Reigning league MVP Joel Embiid didn't play last night in Portland due to injury.

However, due to the new "Hey this TV contract is for a LOT of money, go out there and play you assholes" rules, he can only miss 5 more games all season and still be eligible for MVP consideration.

The Wizards won back to back games for the first time in nearly a year

Only had to play Detroit and San Antonio to do so

"injury"

He scored 31 four days earlier and hasn't played since. It looks a LOT like load management.

In case folks were wondering

The Warriors' Curry will shoot from the NBA 3-point line with NBA basketballs while the Liberty's Ionescu will shoot from the WNBA 3-point line with WNBA basketballs.

Thought exercise:

Each year's draft class is a team. You can't trade players, only sign the best 15 players each year who were eligible that year (refreshing the best/available 15 from that draft class for each year afterwards)

How long before a newly drafted team could be considered a title contender? and how long before a draft-season team is no longer considered a contender? (3 years in for earliest, I think, 8-10 years latest)

09 would be kind of kicking around but not productively with Harden & Curry as the aging guys.

14 should be great, but it's Embiid and Jokic in the same class and the dropoff after is heavy.

12 would still shred teams; Hell, if you put that lineup out there, it's more likely Dame has a ring by now.

20 has some killers but nobody with size, so they'd probably get bounced by either of the above teams.

All that said, though, 16/17/18 would be running the league.  17 could be dynastically good.

Also Tyrese Haliburton is only four missed games away from not being eligible for All-NBA.

Making an All-NBA team this year would increase his pay over the next five years by slightly over forty million dollars.

Chris Vernon predicted at the beginning of the year that this 65 game experiment would change the instant that someone that everyone likes missed out on an award because of it, and I'm leaning more and more into that being true. The crazy thing in all of this, is that Kawhi has only missed what, 4 games?

Well, good thing I didn't place that Celtics/Sixers ECF bet.

I fucking hate the Sixers and want Boston to boatrace them in every single playoff series, but I would also prefer taking a team's best shot and beating them anyway like we did last year.  Hope Embiid doesn't miss too much time, but having a Kuminga land on your damn leg can't be great, even when you're a giant yourself.

The Houston Rockets have acquired Memphis Grizzlies center Steven Adams in a trade for guard Victor Oladipo and three second-round picks, the teams announced Thursday.

As part of the trade, the Grizzlies are getting a 2024 second-round pick via Oklahoma City, a conditional '24 second-rounder, which will be the most favorable pick between the Brooklyn Nets' and Golden State's own, and a more favorable 2025 second-round pick of Houston's, according to sources.

Adams, 30, has been out since January 2023 after undergoing right knee surgery, but he's expected to be fully recovered for the 2024-25 season. The Rockets are eager to pair his physicality, rebounding and leadership as a backup to burgeoning star center Alperen Sengun. Coach Ime Udoka has placed a significant premium on upgrading the roster's toughness and rebounding, and Adams gives the Rockets a player who led the NBA in offensive rebounding in both 2021-22 and 2022-23. Prior to his knee injury last season, Adams averaged 11.5 total rebounds through 42 games.

The deal unloads $12.4 million in guaranteed salary off the Grizzlies' payroll for 2024-25, dropping them about $17 million below the punitive $190 million level of the salary cap referred to as the second apron. Oladipo, who's on an expiring contract, has no timeline for his return to play.

In one of those weird things, Doc Rivers will coach the Eastern Conference in the all-star game.

To his credit, he reportedly is giving his all-star ring and paycheck to Adrian Griffin.

I wish people would give me as much credit for one thing I did well 16 years ago with lots of help and get endless chances because of it too.
