A quick update;

We saw the specialist friday. The doc said the lump on mrs. drew's neck is probably her lymph node having swollen after a sinus infection. No signs of cancer. So I'ma hold the fuck you for now...

That's some great news, brother.

Fuck You kids who pull the branches on the trees at the park. You're the Top five fucking worst people. The list is as follows.

1. Pedophiles

2. Murderers.

3. General Bigots (Homophobes/Racists)

4. Anyone in public office in the United States of America

5. The little shits that break the branches on trees at public parks.

I would put an asterisk by murderers. Like if they murdered pedos and bigots.

I just finished a truly terrible week. What is left of my heart has been broken. It is the sorta week that makes me wonder why I go on.

I've been thru worse times, like when Mama and Daddy croaked. Or the shit last year with my sister. But this feels pretty fucking bad.

Not saying I wish for a fatal heart attack, but I suppose I am.

I was thinking about trying for government disability, I've got enough problems to qualify, but then I read your post. Goddamn. If Texas will deny THAT guy's problems, then I guess I'm just fucked.

Speaking as someone who had DARS (Texas disability and rehab admin, for non Texans) fill out my app FOR ME, I can tell you that nobody gets it at first. Basically they deny you twice, then the third time it goes to a hearing and you bring a lawyer. You bring a lawyer, you win. You don't and you lose. Find a disability lawyer who works for a portion of back payment, nail them to the wall.

I'm afraid even that and Mrs.Garrett's giant rack can't pull me out of this.

What about a guaranteed spot on the Cuddly list?  Good for six months, no exchanges or refunds

I hope what troubles you passes soon.  One of the best things about life is that we're strong enough to put foot up its ass often and repeatedly.  Be well.

What has always gotten me thru tough times is I remember earlier times that were bad and know it passed.

I feel better than I did and hope its over. Sorry for dumping here, I know everybody has troubles. It was just a really bad week.

Sorry for your news. Glad you're feeling better. It's good to get things out of your system.

I hope things continue to improve for you.  It's cliche, but we are stronger than we realize.  Take care.

Well, maybe in Texas. I had a lawyer and they still said "NOAP GO GET YOU A MAN AND GTFO HERE"

My ancient laptop seemed to go through some early death throes this past weekend.  Charter internet went out on Friday(and not just for me)...it came back for most people but not my computer.  Charter guy checked it out on Sunday(including installing a totally new modem/router combo) but it still didn't work; comp said it couldn't find a "certificate" to log me on.  So the comp was dropped off with the Geek Squad on Sunday with no timetable for return as they couldn't figure it out with a quick check.  Already had to drop money on the potential repair job, finally caved and dropped more money on a new laptop yesterday.  The computer was about eight years old and my dad(who gave it to me when my previous desktop crashed) was always shocked that it still worked.

On the bright side, been starting to pick up overtime at my job again and my car insurance finally went down as an old accident dropped off my record.  Hope things balance out.

Had to go off antidepressants a few years ago since I changed jobs and lost health insurance for a bit.  Part of me wants to go back on them, but it's another financial obligation to go along with the hospital bill I just got.  At least that wasn't NEARLY as bad as I thought it would be...insurance covered most of it.  Meanwhile, I knew a guy a while back who managed to get on total disability for his depression...though it turned out that he was far more screwed up than he seemed at the time.  Kinda frustrating sometimes to see people get handed stuff while I have to break my back just to make ends (mostly) meet.

Fuck the academic job market. I just found out that I didn't even make the interview stage for a teaching position. I'll be finishing my dissertation in about a month, and should have a PhD soon. I've taught several university courses, presented my research at international conferences, and have been published in top-tier academic journals, but I can't even get a job as a fucking tutor. My only hope is to piece together session work in the fall, which pays so terribly that I can hardly justify the effort. Just totally fuck it.

The specific job I applied for was as part of a teaching team in a first-year university program. I'd basically have been a tutorial leader, though one with a decent salary and a three-year contract. But no go there. I've applied for a tenure-track position or two, but since I'm ABD those aren't going to come my way. My only hope for the Fall, if I want to stay in academia, is to get hired to teach individual courses, but those are poorly paid--you get less than $5000 a course (it's more like $4000 after taxes).
