No better way to start the off-season thread than by dealing with John Fisher's "apology" to the fans of Oakland:

In 2021, there were 391 games that lasted 3 1/2 hours or longer.

In 2024, there as of this writing have been 7.

He doesn’t owe that entitled fanbase a thing.  Fans didn’t come out to support the team even when it was wining and voters have been opposing improvements to the Coliseum for at least twenty-five years. Is it also his fault the Raiders and Warriors left town?

Besides, if Manfred and MLB thought the team would be berried off in Oakland, they would still be in Oakland.

i don’t think the A’s & MLB have handled this well, but a lot of the blame (most) should fall on the city and its residents.

My controversial opinion: This has been a large part of why I haven't made any real attempts to go to see Cubs games the last couple years when the money to do it. It's great for TV, but if I'm going to a game I want it to be my day, especially with how high ticket prices are. The idea of going to a game, paying multiple hundreds of dollars, only for it to end in 2 hours? Screw that.

That said, my opinion is still way better then the one above mine.

It appears that Rocco Baldelli will be keeping his job in Minnesota

The Cardinals have announced a "shift in philosophy"

What that means no one knows because they also immediately announced that everyone in the front office and Oli Marmol will all keep their jobs.

If fact the only change so far is that they have decided to not attempt to re-sign Paul Goldschmidt

(Some are reporting that the shift will including slashing payroll)

Charlie Blackmon is retiring, which means, for the first time since 1986, no one in the majors has been teammates with Jamie Moyer.

DJ LaMahieu is still active (albeit injured).

Edit: So is Adam Ottavino.

We can call it the "One Less Thing For Fanatics To Fuck Up" mandate.

Here is the wacky ass shit they are doing

Quote

The Cardinals held a press conference today featuring chairman Bill DeWitt Jr., club president Bill DeWitt III, president of baseball operations John Mozeliak and advisor. DeWitt Jr. announced at the press conference that Bloom would be taking over the Mozeliak’s POBO role after 2025 and has signed a five-year contract. Also, Michael Girsch is no longer the general manager, with his title now changed to vice president of special projects. Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat was among those to relay the details. Mozeliak says he expect player payroll to go down, per Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

One of our bosses is a Mets fan. He was still here when I came in tonight, in between games.

"I now they won but I'm taping it to watch later," he said.

"It's wild. It will be easier to watch knowing they won in the end."

Guess the biggest question now is how quick will it be before Rob Manfred does the ultimate Rob Manfred thing and allow Pete Rose to be eligible for the Hall of Fame.  Pete mentioned in  the HBO documentary I believe that the last thing he wanted to get in after he died so he couldn't enjoy it

To put a bow on the Jose Ramirez stuff

For those that can't watch the video - Ramirez was robbed of a HR three times during the season
