RIPPA Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Pitt has fired their AD Heather Lyke Quote Lyke and Gabel, formally inaugurated as Pitt's chancellor in April, did not see eye to eye on a variety of issues, including NIL, sources told ESPN. Executive associate athletic director Jennifer Tuscano will serve as interim athletic director until a permanent AD is hired. The school cited "a need to help the school navigate "a new era in college athletics."" (aka NIL) Apparently Lyke was a finalists for the Northwestern AD job and also interviewed for Ohio State's gig this year too so clearly she was trying to get out before being shown the door
Mister TV Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Just now, RIPPA said: Pitt has fired their AD Heather Lyke The school cited "a need to help the school navigate "a new era in college athletics."" (aka NIL) Apparently Lyke was a finalists for the Northwestern AD job and also interviewed for Ohio State's gig this year too so clearly she was trying to get out before being shown the door Lyke's contract was up at the end of the year, it now seems like the Pitt's chancellor wasn't interested in an extension so Lyke had to start looking for another gig. Pitt has always shoot itself in the dick and made dumb decisions like this after a little bit of success, Lyke has done a hell of a job in creating stability in football and men's basketball after dumb firing & hiring decisions of previous AD's, and totally reformed Pitt's Olympic Sports which were basically nonexistent before she got there. Also, there's been talk about Lyke not being on the ball when it comes to NIL, I feel that's a bad take since Pitt has nowhere near the alumni base of Penn State & Ohio State who the local media and message board nerds want to compare them too, and Pitt doesn't have a billionaire sugar daddy who's going to come up with some NIL scheme, their billionaire sugar daddies throw money around on the academic side of things.
RIPPA Posted September 9 Author Posted September 9 Shilo Sanders had surgery on his right forearm No one has confirmed what exactly the injury was but Deion said after the game that it was "likely broken"
EVA Posted September 9 Posted September 9 On a related note….After the controversy about FSU’s band, now we have this madness from Colorado: Bands rule and are one of the many great things that make CFB stand out from the NFL. Seeing them increasingly minimized in places around the country sucks. 6 1
Brian Fowler Posted September 9 Posted September 9 So, goodbye 16 game winning streak, 23 game home winning streak, and 28 have regular season winning streak. Hello "just got absolutely mauled at home." This sucks. But, honestly, if the Rich Rod/Hoke era and 2020 accomplished anything good for me, it's that I don't take good Michigan teams for granted. Also, historically, at least since Bo retired, Michigan averages out to being about an 8-4/9-3 type team in general, with high variance. And both those records are still on the table, pretty much exactly what I expected going in, with 10-2 or 7-5 being possible. I do think 7-5 looks more likely and 10-2 less than they respectively did two weeks ago, but such is life. The Texas game looked an awful lot like the last game Michigan lost by more than one score, the Orange Bowl against Georgia in the CFP. Right down to the late touchdown that made the score look a little better than it really was. So here I am hoping this is more because this year's Texas team is similar to that Georgia squad and less because Michigan is nowhere near that level anymore. Only time will really tell on that, of course. Michigan has what should be a classic "get right" game against Arkansas State ahead of USC in what might be a season defining game. Elsewhere! Arizona and Kansas State are now conference mates but they are playing a non conference game because it was previously scheduled and college football refuses to make sense. Two teams with higher than normal expectations this year, could be a make or break game. Boston College has returned to the top 25 and get a real test to try to stay there at Missouri. I really like BOB's offense through two weeks, but this one would be a pretty surprising win. Missouri still has dark horse national title aspirations. That's it for ranked vs ranked matchups, but if last week failed to remind you, craziness can happen anywhere in college football and everybody is always on upset alert.

Brian Fowler Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Michigan and Moore finally signed the contract apparently. Remains a very bizarre scenario.
RIPPA Posted September 12 Author Posted September 12 4 schools are leaving the Mountain West to join the Pac-12 Boise State Colorado State San Diego State Frenso State They would join for the 2026-2027 academic year. All schools will pay the Mountain West $18 million as they are leaving with 2 years notice The Pac-12 still needs to add 2 more schools by the end of next year to reach the NCAA minimum (they are currently in the first year of a two year grace period granted by the NCAA)
EVA Posted September 12 Posted September 12 It was always just a matter of time before that happened. Only surprise is that they didn’t snag UNLV, too, but I imagine we get there eventually. Interested to see if they pull up some top FCS programs to fill out the roster, too.

Rumor is it's kinda like the Arizona/Arizona State and UNC/NCSU thing where it would be at least very hard to get UNLV without Nevada. Of course, if they don't find anyone in the East to fill out the conference, maybe they'll end up just talking both anyway.
RIPPA Posted September 12 Author Posted September 12 I doubt it would happen but a lot of folks are trying to will Hawaii to the PAC 12 into existence

The All Coasts Conference Era, logistically, shouldn't last long. Just a generous helping hand in a time of great need (perhaps spawning a new out-of-conference scheduling tradition).
EVA Posted September 13 Posted September 13 South Alabama beat an FCS opponent 87-10 tonight. They very easily could’ve scored 100 on them if they didn’t go DEEP into their bench late in the game. No disrespect to Northwestern State, but when you have a chance to hit the century mark in this day and age, you gotta take it. Very disappointing.
Brian Fowler Posted September 13 Posted September 13 Looks like Hugh Freeze has hit the limit on Peyton Thorne. Hank Brown widely reported as the starter for tomorrow. Thorne's 2021 feels several lifetimes ago. And also makes a compelling argument for just how great Jaden Reed and Kenneth Walker III are.

No disrespect to Northwestern State, but when you have a chance to hit the century mark in this day and age, you gotta take it. Very disappointing. The coaches agreed to shorten the game to 54 minutes. This has lead to CHAOS~! with sports betting https://www.espn.com/sports-betting/story/_/id/41246553/south-alabama-blowout-leads-voided-bets-unique-settlements Quote This ended up being key for the sports betting results. College football sportsbook house rules usually require 55 minutes of play for most action to be considered valid, though there is leeway for interpretation. DraftKings' house rules state, "There must be 5 minutes or less of scheduled game time left for bets to have action unless the specific market outcome is already unconditionally determined." The last part is crucial, as over and under bets on the total (in this case set at 59.5, per ESPN BET odds) can be deemed "unconditional" -- in other words, they would have hit regardless of anything that could have happened in the final minutes of the game. As a result, DraftKings graded overs and unders as winners and losers, respectively. BetMGM confirmed that it settled total bets in the same manner. Caesars, ESPN BET and FanDuel did not immediately respond to inquiries for this story. For the point spread (set at South Alabama -36.5), DraftKings graded all bets as void in accordance with its rules. However, the book said it is awarding cash payouts Friday for any wagers on USA's full-game and second-half spreads as if they were winners. First-half and third-quarter wagers stand as is. BetMGM voided all full-game wagers on Northwestern State, in accordance with house rules, but graded South Alabama bets as winners, calling the final score an "official result" as "declared by the official governing body," per the book's house rules.
Brian Fowler Posted September 13 Posted September 13 ESPN couldn't get a comment from ESPN BET. That's... Huh

EVA Posted September 14 Posted September 14 (edited) 13 hours ago, Tabe said: I dunno, K-State just beat a ranked Arizona team by 24... Arizona is your classic fugazi early-season Top 25 team. They have nothing besides an exceptional WR. K-State has a BIG problem in the passing game that’s going to kill them against better teams. The young guy cannot throw. Edited September 14 by EVA
EVA Posted September 14 Posted September 14 Speaking of big problems, Tyler Van Dyke just went down the a non-contact leg injury for Wisconsin. Looks bad.
Kevin Wilson Posted September 14 Posted September 14 The FSU QB has to be one of the worst QBs I've seen from a team that was supposed to be in the Top 10/15 in the country. Who miscalculated to the point this guy is starting? I looked up his stats and DJ wasn't *this* bad at Oregon State so maybe its a offensive scheme issue, I dunno. Feeling good about my Under bet. 1
EVA Posted September 14 Posted September 14 That halftime stat line is legitimately insane. 5 for 6 for 7 yards and 1 interception! Unreal bad.
