Lorne is starting to rely on musicians as hosts a little too much...

March 8 will feature Lady Gaga as host.   The musical guest will be... Lady Gaga.

There’s that old adage, “every comedian wants to be a rock star and every rock star wants to be a comedian.”

Much like wrestling, I have loved SNL for as long as I can remember. Despite having a somewhat abusive upbringing, my parents would let me stay up and watch shit like SNL every Saturday, along with Superstars and Rollergames, if I could stay up and not fall asleep. Even during down seasons, I still watch and have a deep admiration for SNL. My knowledge for SNL is probably as deep as it is for wrestling and stand-up comedy.

I got very teary eyed multiple times, both for being sad and being happy, through the concert and the special. To me, it was phenomenal. Robyn doing Dancing On My Own with David Byrne and it looking like David Byrne could be Robyn's dad melted my heart. That may have been my favorite part of the concert. There was a bunch of other stuff that I dug from the concert, but for whatever reason that stood out the most for me.

For the special, the video flashback segments really got me and for the ones I was old enough to remember, it instantly brought me back to where I was when I saw those sketches. I was howling at Eddie Murphy doing Tracy Morgan. I was howling just as much for the return of GOULET~! and tiny hands Kristen Wiig. When the Goulet sketch kicked things off I was like, oh yeah, this is the Will Ferrell character I love the most.

DEEP THOUGHTS BY JACK HANDY~! YEEEEESSSSSSS~!

Man, every mention of Norm destroyed me.

I think it was Colin Jost, I think, but whoever mentioned that it's amazing that out of 900 and some odd guest hosts that only two were murderers. I instantly knew OJ was one of them, but my wife and I were trying to think of the other and her guess was Robert Blake. I thought there was no way it could have been Blake because he never seemed cool enough to host even in the early days. Sure enough, she was right.

I was super, super, super bummed that Bill Hader "politely declined" to be part of the festivities on the heels of Stefon being voted fans favorite character of all time. I kept hoping and hoping we'd see Stefon, but the most we got was a quarter of a second picture of Stefon during a video montage. I wonder what was up with that, and maybe it's a coincidence, but Dan Aykroyd and Hader have the same agent and Aykroyd also politely declined to appear. Hader is still maybe my favorite cast member of the last, god, 20 years or so? He had so many memorable sketches and characters like Vinny Veddci/Italian Talk Show:

Herb Welch:

Keith Morrison/Dateline:

And of course Stefon and so many others. As someone who has watched all of SNL, I thought he had the most potential of damn near anybody to have been on the show since Bill Murray or Eddie Murphy and I think the talent he showed through the making of Barry showed that off. No disrespect to Tina Fey, Wiig, Pohler, Ferrell, or anyone else, I just think Hader is the best.

No Justin Timberlake was disappointing too as he's one of the most well-loved and regarded hosts by Lorne, the cast, and crew.

All in all it was a tremendous celebration of 50 years. I hope it never stops.

I'll all but guarantee you that JT-Lake is basically PNG right now.  The Brittney Spears accusations were less than a year ago.

Hell, Ryan Reynolds is catching strays for the problems his wife is having right now with some saying "why what have you heard?" was inappropriate.

Hader not making it was very disappointing though.

I always thought Walken was completely innocent in all of that. But who knows.

My wife's following that quite closely, it's not strays he's catching, he's right in the middle of it.

course, that whole mess reads like "Everyone here is the bad guy and wrong"

Holy fucking shit. Walton Goggins hosting SNL is blowing my fucking mind right now. Like, I'm fucking begging these writers, just work in "we dug coal together" somewhere in there.

I went to record it and I've got too many goddamn ones set up. Anyway, it says the Arcade Fire is the musical guest, in case anybody wants to know.

Seems like it is really early but here is the latest end of season SNL Update Joke Swap

https://x.com/nbcsnl/status/1923961846840586525

This season's one was really one sided as Michael Che's jokes to Colin Jost destroyed Colin Jost.    The "Nick Kerr Lover" joke feels like something from the 70's and closest one of these jokes got to being a "we are off the network" one

From the stuff I saw, the whole show felt like they aren't really sure that a 51st season is happening so fuck it
