OSJ Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Okay, Rippa has mocked me for years for using Internet Explorer. The results are fine everywhere but here. You don't see me in long threads with loads of music files because they simply won't load. You don't see my comments on Wrestler of the Day because after about five matches are posted IE balks again. So, help a brother out, what should I use as a web browser that isn't going to fuck with my OS?
GojiColin Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 With the disclaimer that I'm not Mr Cutting Edge Technology Guy, I use Chrome to browse the net and it works just peachy for me. I also got my 68 year old technophobe father to switch from IE to Chrome recently and he seems happy with the results.
JustJay Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I used to always use Mozilla Firefox but I switched over to Chrome a couple years ago and love it. Get AdBlock Plus from the Chrome store and you are set. Lately though gifs will stall out with the latest Chrome update. Hoping I'll be able to view the gifs thread again without it slowing my pc down or I'll be switching back to Firefox. As always which ever you choose always get AdBlock for it to make browsing easier. 1
Death From Above Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I'm a Firefox man myself because I've used it for years without trouble, and I find several of the optional add ons are basically now wee essentials to my internet experience. I have very little experience with Chrome so it's hard for me to compare them. 1
Raziel Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 What's said, either Chrome or Firefox with AdBlock add on installed is aces. 1
cool arrow Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I'm a Pale Moon man myself. Whichever browser you go with, though, Adblock is an absolute must.
Lamp, broken circa 1988 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Just gonna say that AdBlock Plus actually has been taking money from companies to put their ads on a back-end white list (Microsoft, Yahoo, a few others), so keep that in mind. I mean it'll still shield you from the more malware-y shit, but if you're militant about adblocking like I am, it's a bummer. I don't know a fix for Firefox, but on Chrome you can get µBlock which is a similar architecture to ABP but it's not as much of a memory hog, and it's not big enough for companies to try payola shit on them.
OSJ Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 Thanks folks! I'll give Chrome a try first and see how that goes. *sighs* I remember when I was Mr. Cutting Edge Technology, but that was long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. If DECPDP1184 means anything, that was my first computer, took up an entire room and couldn't do half the shit my cell phone does.

Technico Support Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Thanks for the heads-up! I've always been an Adblock Plus guy and hate how much of a memory hog it is.
Raziel Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 There's straight up Adblock too, which is different than Adblock Plus that I use and it's just fine.
OSJ Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 Folks: Tried Chrome last night and except for needing to figure out how to transfer favorites without revisiting every site, it's golden. I was able to go through the full archive of Kevin Sullivan goodness in WRESTLER OF THE DAY. Granted, I have all that shit in my permanent dvd collection, but it's nice to view on the site and see what other folks thought of it. The Kanemura slaughter is one of the best things to happen in SMW. You would have to be braindead to ask a guy like Sullivan to blade you and make it look good. The only worse possibility I could think of might be Bob Roop. Both of those guys just have way too much fun cutting people up. 2
RIPPA Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I moved this to the computer and tech section just because... well that is what this is
J.T. Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Good man! And yeah, Chrome and Firefox don't suffer from IE's ActiveX and Java related bullshit.
Red is Dead Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 One thing to watch out for on chrome though - its fairly processor heavy - so while its a decent browser, if you have too many other programs or chrome windows open it could slow things down for you. But yeah, chrome is the way to go, man. 1

You should be able to import your bookmarks/favorites from Internet Explorer. When you open up Chrome, on the top right (just under the red 'X') is a three lined symbol, which enables you to get into the settings. You click that button, click settings, and on the default settings screen, near the bottom is an option that says 'Import bookmarks and settings...' Just click that and go from there. That should take care of business. One thing to watch out for on chrome though - its fairly processor heavy - so while its a decent browser, if you have too many other programs or chrome windows open it could slow things down for you. But yeah, chrome is the way to go, man. If he doesn't use a lot of extensions, that'll help on the memory front.
