Aw man, I knew what was going to happen when they posted the house clip earlier today. Can't wait for someone to figure out where that house is actually located.

Going back to the Starks thing, I don't feel like AEW has done pushes correctly for some of their guys and without someone doing an interview about it, we'll never know. It's not just Starks, it's Wardlow, Hobbs, I'd even argue Sammy and Jungle Boy. Swerve is another good example of this, but for whatever reason, they listened to the crowd and kept the momentum up.

But all of these guys had moments and then just were kept off of TV, not even a promo or vingette or anything. That's not going to work and it hasn't.

I also felt like Copeland came off like a schmuck in that promo with Starks so it's interesting to see the opposite opinion here.

Hobbs was pretty raw when he came in, kinda got slotted into Monster of the Week division (Nyla lives there too!)  Then injuries happened.  He's been unlucky.

Starks and Wardlow reached the levels they should have.  They were too limited to be Top level guys.  Swerve was clearly the real deal, getting a tag reign early on showed he was going to be one of the big players.  When he got the ball, he took it a lot farther than Starks and Wardlow ever could (and likely Hobbs).

I thought the next escalation was either going to be loser leaves town, or they put their families on the line, but arson was pretty neat- and something that would have fit in just fine in the Cuetoverse.

The show-ending angle was obvious, but executed perfectly. Unhinged Hangman actually having a peaceful moment knowing that he finally one-upped Swerve was some top-tier character work.

BCC/Conglomeration + Will was a fun match, but I wished they had prepped Danielson for some of the obvious questions he'd get on commentary. He's the leader of BCC, why wouldn't he know Pac's status within the group? Why would he not have any insight on Mox, even if that insight is "he's gone AWOL for a couple months, I'm worried about him."

Kyle Fletcher has to be this year's most improved by a lot (fitting I thought the same about Skye last year). Everything about him screams main event and he's carried his weight in matches with Swerve, Ospreay, and now Okada this year. Loved the finishing stretch where Kyle was always ready for rainmaker, so Okada tricked him with the cock-knocker instead.

Side note that I feel for Jamie Hayter having to come up with a new finisher now, but her arm-trap lariat looks great. I'm all for being gaslit that it was always the Hayter-ade.

Garcia cut a nice promo, but as per usual with MJF segments, the right moments didn't get to breathe. Then the level of hate in Hangman/Swerve made it look like these two were fighting over a parking space anyway.

Tbh, her regular-ass running lariat looks better than both that and the ripcord version. She should just roll with that.

(Also, Okada's Rainmaker fuckin' honks.)

Epic visual for the closing angle, incredible rivalry.  Loved the little Deonna vignette too, along with Shida's promo. Actually really digging the simple but effective build/feud for Shida/Mercedes playing off their last match.

Fletcher/Okada and the trios main event ruled. Mariah/Nyla pretty good too.  Always love to see Robyn Renegade even if just for a couple minutes. All Out coming together nicely in a short amount of time.

Friday night Collision also looking pretty stacked. Very interested in a Shida/Deonna rematch, Takeshita/Beast Mortos will be insane, and Archer vs Mark Briscoe sounds super fun.

I had the house burning angle spoiled for me Tuesday night, since someone posted on one of the wrestling subreddits that they were working the shoot and showed pictures. Still didn’t dampen the impact, but still.

I’m howling that that the cage match is unsanctioned so even if Hangman wins, within AEW (even though they don’t track wins and losses anymore) his inevitable win over Swerve isn’t going to count for anything over than revenge. Officially, within kayfabe, Swerve would still be undefeated against Hangman since AEW isn’t responsible for what happens nor do they care about the outcome. It’s just a moral victory, but even then it’s come at a hefty price since Hangman has been noticeably changed by Swerve.

Seems like they’re turning their wheels with Mariah May already, maybe it’s because Toni is in Australia promoting Grand Slam. But they need to finish that program, and have Toni be some kind of amalgamation of herself and Timeless, because we need the Toni/Jamie matches back on the menu. Come to think along it, strange bedfellows would be Toni & Jamie against Saraya & Mariah. That might be fun, even though everyone hates Saraya.

As soon as Kazuchika Okada came in, I thought Jamie Hayter would have to do something different with her finish.

Solid chance Toni vs Mariah headlines that stadium, methinks.

Agreed. First time a women's match will headline an AEW PPV.

I'm a bit of a low voter on Swerve and this Hangman feud but got to say, great bit of character work to see the ice cold killer break down like that. That said, I sincerely hope that wasn't actually his childhood home burned to sell a pro wrestling match...

This was my immediate thought as well when I saw the unsanctioned stip and I'm pretty sure it's where they're headed on Saturday.

In the main wrestling discussion thread, there's some conversation about people pushed as top guys that you just didn't see and Page would have always been in my list. Since he morphed into Silas Young and went full arsonist (was he in front of a green screen at the end?) I've come around on him. His faux tough guy cowboy promos were never that great but he really captured the person who was pushed too far to the point of becoming deranged and finally realizing he had to one-up his tormentor. Page and Swerve's matches have always been good so this should be no exception.

This card is actually more appealing to me than All In was.

Looking forward to Hangman Adam Page vs. Swerve Strickland which should main event the show, when normally it should be the AEW World Championship match.

I wonder how far they'll go to top the Texas Death Match at Full Gear 2020 which begs the next question, what will be the feud ender? A no rope barbed wire match or even a no rope barbed wire exploding death match to "make up" for the Revolution 2021 ending between Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley?

Let's just get a throwback to Axl/Ian Taipei Death Match......and im not ashamed to admit I'm only half kidding.

Man, that blood spot soured me on that Strickland/Page Texas Death Match at AEW Full Gear 2023, match needed to end a few minutes earlier before the interference too. It's one of the most acclaimed, no not that acclaimed AEW matches ever I'm in the minority on. Ditto Lucha Bros/Bucks at AEW All In 2021. I'm not as high on Omega/Page vs. Bucks at AEW Revolution 2020 either. What are yours?

So, this is not to say I'm not a huge fan of the match, because I love it.....but I'm definitely in the minority on Omega/Danielson.  I don't think it lived up to the expectation, which admittedly were astronomical, of what I expected.  Them not running it back with more time and not to a draw has it in a weird space for me.  One hand, I like that it might be the only meeting they ever had and neither man was better, on the other hand, i selfishly want them to have a Best of 7.  I might be letting too many extraneous factors contribute to my opinion of it.  I rank the match highly, just don't appreciate it the way I do others on the "Best of" lists.

Page/Strickland's matches are good but that acclaimed one lost me with the overtly fake glass and barbed wire. I'm not advocating for them to use real glass or barbed wire, but it was being used in a way that seemed to leave little mark on each other's bodies. It's been often the case with these extreme weapons (cinder blocks from last year's Blood and Guts if I recall), they suspend my belief in how obviously fake they are.

And that's ok!  I was just talking about this match a while back (I don't remember what thread, maybe in the context of getting Grand Slam tickets) and I fully acknowledge that my opinion of it being "Supreme Lord of All Dream Matches Ever Conceived" might be *slightly* influenced by our presence in the building. It's just something I'll never, ever be able to be objective about (but obviously in the opposite direction as you) but at least we acknowledge the blind spot, if you wanna call it that

I mentioned this last night, but, no, it’s not a green screen. The guy I was talking about was a safety coordinator I believe, wherever it was shot at had their local fire department there to oversee the shoot as well. The guy in question posted a picture (maybe like a few yards away or something) and it was Hangman sitting in that chair, with the house in the background on fire. It was all legit.

He deleted the post and picture a few hours later, but yeah.

I actually prefer the Page/Moxley Texas Death Match from AEW Revolution 2023 to the Page/Strickland one at AEW Full Gear 2023. Am I the only one?
