Antlers's RT rating is starting to plummet.

You all should set your DVRs to record everything from Midnight to 6 in the morning on Halloween - 1 November.

Metropolis, Vampyr, and Haxan will play back to back.

Where? I already went through the TCM entries.

They are on the schedule for the morning of 1 November, but are still considered to be part of the Halloween night programming, I guess.

12:49 AM  EDT - Metropolis (1926)

03:45 AM EDT - Vampyr (1932)

05:15 AM EDT - Haxan (1922)

Yeah. It's a shame Raising Cain was so jumbled because he did another great job with a villain there. And of course there's the Dexter role. The "clean-up" role in Blow Out though, that's the crown jewel. The scene where he strangles the woman in I believe a bathroom stall is perfect.

Yeah, that scene where the hooker does her thing in the phone booth with the sailor before being garotted in the bathroom by Lithgow is gonna be awkward.

Antlers was very eh, unfortunately.  I like the story of the teacher with the troubled past trying to help the troubled youth and the veiled comparison with the curse of the Wendigo to the opium crisis (the movie is set in Oregon), but the pacing of the movie is way off and relies too much on the Magical Native American trope to get the story going.

And for once I'd like a "The End" instead of "The End?" in a horror film.  What this movie needed was a sound conclusion and they opted for the usual twist.  Not good.

I am up at the ass end of the morning watching Haxan.  The local television guide did not have the correct entry so I was afraid my DVR would screw up.  GamesRadar's list of the 15 Best Witch Movies does not include Blair Witch Project or Haxan so it is total bullshit.

No, the trailer for Jordan Peele's upcoming movie, Nope, did not leak on Paramount+.  Someone is cutting footage from episodes of the new Twilight Zone and uploading them to the interwebs.

This is all so disappointing.  Trailer looked awesome, and the source material short story is fan-fucking-tastic.  All my kids read it and agreed that it's really, really good.  And it had a great concrete ending.  I understand having to add here or cut stuff here when adapting, but why change the core story dynamic?

I got in 31 spooky movies for the season.

One surprise was a flick called SEANCE, which is on Shudder. Has a very late 90's slasher movie revival(the good and the bad) mixed with that A24 minimalist aesthetic. It's got surprisingly fun climax that I'll remember for a long time.

Night of the Living Dead not being an exception is not acceptable. ? Otherwise, very nice list. Your affinity for the second Hellraiser is interesting, does it have something that particularly stands out to you?

Top ten for me is probably

NOTLD

Texas Chainsaw

Alien

Phantasm

Inferno

Maniac

The Haunting (1963)

Tales from the Crypt (1972)

The House by the Cemetery

The Fog

EDIT: Oooo, this is a downer, but I could flip The Fog for Witchfinder General. Then again you could categorize it as a period drama as much as a horror film, so The Fog would definitely win that contest.

OR I could go "how low can you go" and say Mark of the Devil which in all honesty I probably like more than Witchfinder General. Yeah, I know I'm terrible.

To elaborate further (I was on the phone earlier), I think those films aren't seen as fully in the genre as much as they truly are due to that popularity, or perhaps plain old familiarity. I know making that list I didn't think about them at all even though they are perfectly worthy of being in anyone's top ten or twenty or whatever. Seven is a film that I have a hard time watching certain scenes of and I am as hardened a viewer as any of us -- that is the test of a true horror movie for sure.

I forgot to applaud New Blood for some of the picks on his list.  Tourist Trap is an underloved classic and we will not discuss the crush I had on Marki Bey as an adolescent that made me keep Sugar Hill on my DVR as an adult for a year until I found a bootleg DVD copy.
