SirSmUgly
Obsidian does what Bethesdon't! Here's a GB Quick Look if you need to be sold on the game, but watch out for any spoilers. Right now, I'm out here requisitioning shit from corporate mooks. Good times!

assfax
I'm going to treat my lying stat like 'stache on Mario and Luigi. 99 percent of points go there.
Jiji
Soooooo regarding the redirecting power mission early on: Spoiler Was the only way avoiding scorched earth in Edgewater after redirecting power away from it was to have 25 mechanics or whatever that ability score requirement was? I ended up having to kill a shit load of people which wasn't exactly the playthrough I was going for. edit: it feels very much like a PS3 era game. It doesn't really do anything new so far, the textures are pretty ugly, the character models are not all that lovely but it's a pretty fun game. I enjoyed the shades of grey nature of that choice and the more I interacted with the other character I sided with, the less sure I was I made the right decision. Not sure on that one, as I passed the test and left peacefully... I also did not feel good about it. I think they did a hell of a job making that mission not have a happy ending. Also Paavari is absolutely adorable.
SirSmUgly
I think that @Oyaji is right; it does feel like a PS3-era game. IMO, this game channels KotOR, a game that came out a generation before the 360/PS3, and Fallout: New Vegas, which is a PS3-era game. I think that choice is deliberate, and it's really the KotOR III/New Vegas 2 that I've been waiting for, as I said in the other thread. It's so fucking good at the awesome thing that it is trying to emulate that it doesn't need to be anything new, at least for me. Obsidian knew exactly whom they were trying to appeal to. I'm moving slowly through this game right now, doing every quest possible. This game is supposed to be thirty hours long, so I'm sure I'll finish it in about seventy. Tromatagon
Dick Shittens, Space Chef has no time for these morality issues. I just flipped a goddamned switch. 1

The Man Known as Dan
The main thing I’m taking from this game is “whoever decided to Obsidians first major release under Microsoft a game a Firefly esqe game is a damned genius”
Tromatagon
I think the game should be called SPACE ASSHOLE 1
assfax
Yeah, I'm fixin' to play this fucker for about 13 hours straight. Got some Knob Creek, 23 ounces of whole cashews, snickerdoodles and two cases of Banquet beer. Should last me until 8 PM if I nurse it. Then, if I wake up tomorrow I'll go play that new Elvira pinball machine.

SirSmUgly
I dumped a bunch of points into dialog because that's how I like to play, and I also got my hands on a scary helmet, so my base intimidation + intimidation bonus from the helmet is scaring these marauders away. I come in guns out and talking shit and dudes are running. Man, I love this game.

I think I have hand and long guns at 20. 50 in all speech, all Tech at 50, all stealth approaching 50, and am starting to work on leadership which has Inspiration at 30. Basically if I do end up having to fight, I let my companions do the work.
CSC
The companions are fucking beasts at fighting. I have been lining up so many gun shots and see Parvati running into shot and bludgeoning the poor marauder with her club staff thingy taking them out before I can. assfax
Yeah, on New Vegas I was a sawed off motherfucker but most of the fighting was done by Boone, ED-E and the robot Elvis dog. I mostly remember things like that boomers Volare quest where my science was so high I could just say to use a rubber gasket or some other bullshit. I turned the UI thing off that shows your odds off succeeding speech checks.
Tromatagon
I just got caught in an infinite death loop on New Vegas because I shot Chandler Bing in the fucking face in front of everyone and ran out of the casino and died right when I hit the door, so the second I got outside it autosaved with me dying I was a one save slot kind of guy back then and never played the game again

SirSmUgly
Parvati basically being Kaylee from Firefly is great because she was the best character on that show and I enjoy having her analogue in my party at all times.
Tromatagon
It's actually getting hard to choose companions at times. The ones I have so far are all pretty cool people and you only get two. Edited October 28, 2019 by Tromatagon

That's if my companions let me get any murdering done. The NPC henchmen in this game sound like the antithesis to Skyrim minions that can't even follow me down a mountain path without being killed by wolves. Edited October 28, 2019 by J.T. assfax
I'm loving the streamlined ammo system. Especially now that I've got a goddamned grenade launcher. I've done all the first levels shit and am about to get on my spaceship to leave.
