Curt McGirt Posted October 30 Posted October 30 (edited) Man, I still haven't seen Kronos (or as a friend reminded me earlier today, Cronos, either). WHOA. I just looked it up and I've never seen THE LEGEND OF THE 7 GOLDEN VAMPIRES ffs. There is some serious Hammer stuff I need to see. Edited October 30 by Curt McGirt 1

Curt McGirt Posted November 3 Posted November 3 List of films I have found to watch after watching all of the Severin Cellar videos, for posterity: - Invasion of the Blood Farmers - Bag Boy Lover Boy - Dead Kids AKA Strange Behavior - All the Colors of the Dark (and all other Sergio Martino) - Stone (1974) - The Survivor (1981) - The Last Horror Show AKA Fanatic - Cathy's Curse - Patrick Still LIves - Out of the Blue - The Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism And I'll leave some more, errr, lurid pictures off this list. I'm sure several of you have seen some of these? I remember the Blood Farmers VHS cover at more than one video store as a kid and was always fascinated by it. If you were wondering, just like the Criterion Closet videos, people tend to pick the same shit and here they always pick Threads, Combat Shock, and Jess Franco pictures. Which aren't bad ideas, except all of them will make you want to snuff it, only the Jess Franco pictures will be from boredom (seriously watch Threads and Combat Shock if you know what's good for you) They also always bring up Overboard, The Perils of Gwendoline, and The Boys Next Door. I definitely know what some of these dudes were jerking it to as teenagers. Everyone -- EVERYONE -- likes The Devil's Rain, too. Which they should!
Curt McGirt Posted November 3 Posted November 3 Aw, fuck it. I have to ask about The Beast in Heat and Gestapo's Last Orgy (which is a title I remember from seeing on the shelves as a kid, actually). They've got to be the pits, right? The only N*sploitation movies I've ever seen are the first couple Ilsa films and only the second one is any fun, because it's so silly. And has Uschi Digard. 1
elizium Posted November 3 Posted November 3 The Beast in Heat is very silly. Mostly boring, with some amusing scenes. The beast is just a 5 foot tall hairy dude whi likes eating pubic hair and the torture scene includes a woman being eaten by rats, which are just two very confused guinea pigs sitting in fake blood on her torso. It's basically two movies spliced together, there's a whole resistance subplot that uses footage from another movie. I'm not recommending it, but I'm also not not recommending it 2 1
Curt McGirt Posted November 4 Posted November 4 (edited) I forgot about Sledge Hammer, which I really should watch too. It looks so bad. And man, EVERYONE brought up The Devil's Rain too, it felt like. Which they should have. Edited November 4 by Curt McGirt

Andrew POE! Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Picked up Criterion Collection copies of Husbands and Love Streams at a Barnes & Noble near me. Days later there were fewer movies of course but did manage to get Gummo, Happiness and All Of Us Strangers. 2

Great? No. But it's not the worst of the genre I've seen. I liked the Ilsa movies when I was a high school movie nerd moving into the world of exploitation but haven't watched them since. Was impressed to see Mr. Goodbar coming out. Doubt I'll get it but cool to have out there. I'm exploring all these spin offs from VS right now. Being out of the loop for two years has me way behind. Didn't know that Bill from Code Red and Walt from Scorpion passed.
Curt McGirt Posted November 8 Posted November 8 (edited) I recorded Goodbar off TCM a couple months back. Worth watching for the horrifying ending alone. Stephen King said his wife ran to the bathroom thinking she was gonna punk when they saw it in the theater! EDIT: I meant to write "puke" of course but that is pretty funny so I'm keeping it. "I'm gonna punk!" Edited November 8 by Curt McGirt

I ordered "the Long Good Friday", the Val Lewton double feature (which is technically a triple feature, since it has a very good documentary on the director), an upgrade of "Night of the Living Dead", and "Throw Down". I think they've arrived at the house by now, so I'll have something to watch during my recovery. 2
Curt McGirt Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Severin has a bundle of the Vixen films by Russ Meyer and I think the first pressing already sold out, so you might wanna check on the second and jump on it. 2
Andrew POE! Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Added more Criterion Collection pickups with Klute, Kes, Fish Tank, and The Great Beauty. 2
Curt McGirt Posted November 10 Posted November 10 (edited) Still need to see Klute all the way through. That's a movie that somehow snuck onto the Terror in the Aisles horror clip show even though it wasn't what they called on there a "terror" film. (Vice Squad was the other big one -- and Nighthawks!) Or, the Incredibly Strange Rise and Fall of the World’s Wildest Cinema and How It Influenced a Mixed-up Generation of Weirdos and Misfits, visit the Severin Cellar. Features a tremendously disgusting anecdote about Donald Pleasance. Spoiler Apparently while working on a film he had them send call girls over to his trailer where he would eat their shit. Yep. I will never watch another Halloween film with him in it the same way again. Here's the trailer for Scala to boot! Us being collectors and cinema freaks I'm sure we'll all dig the hell out of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FthyF141zdU&ab_channel=SydneyUndergroundFilmFestival

elizium Posted November 13 Posted November 13 Eaten Alive and Cannibal Apocalypse are legitimately good movies, though Apocalypse owes more to zombie movies than cannibal movies, imo. Eaten Alive has the most interesting setting for a cannibal boom movie, in a Jonestown-esque encampment. 1
Curt McGirt Posted November 13 Posted November 13 Apocalypse is a straight-up zombie movie -- and I love it, too. It has one of the greatest lines in movie history. A smoke bomb flies into the supermarket that Johnny Radice has been shooting up and because him and John Saxon have mutual history in Vietnam to where that knowledge would be useful, he tells him "Just PISS on it!" AND HE DOES. AND IT WORKS. I mean, if you have John Saxon pissing on a smoke bomb in your film, you've already won, you know?
