Curt McGirt Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Curse of the Devil is real good. But then again, you're probably not gonna get me to thumbs-down a Paul Naschy movie under any circumstances. Speaking of this era, The Lorelei's Grasp by Amando de Ossorio is really good, it showed up on one of those Naschy 2-disc comps that Anchor Bay or somebody (judging from this trailer, Scream Factory?) was putting out years ago. Check that one out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91JqEIwv7Do&ab_channel=ScreamFactoryTV
Andrew POE! Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Criterion's April releases are corkers: Anora (~!!!!!) The Prince of Broadway Jean de Florette / Manon of the Spring (!!!!!!) Basquiat (!!!!!) Ugetsu 4K (!!!!) Chungking Express 4K (!!!!!!) Some Like It Hot 4K (!!!!!) I heard millions of wallet cry out in terror and were suddenly silent. 3
Curt McGirt Posted January 16 Posted January 16 https://severinfilms.com/products/2020-texas-gladiators-3-disc-4k-uhd-w-limited-edition-slipcover Haven't seen this one before. Looks awesome -- minus the rape scenes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ia60L--6Xsg&ab_channel=TrailerWorld
Curt McGirt Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Here's another Vinegar Syndrome. I'm interested based on its title alone before anything else... Spoiler I mean, who gets away with just calling a movie Crack House?! 1
RazorbladeKiss87 Posted January 17 Posted January 17 CRACK HOUSE IS SO GOOD Okay. I've calmed down. Odessa might remember Video Spectrum, the rental store. My friends and I rented Crack House constantly. When they went out of business I went in there and purchased three tapes: KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park, Moron Movies and Crack House. It's got a pretty bleak outlook and a few moments that are endlessly quotable. If you haven't watched it, this gets my highest recommendation. 1

jaedmc Posted January 23 Author Posted January 23 Heaven help me there's a Fright Night 2 DVD sitting behind the counter at my local comic/record store. 35 buuuuuucks. 3

Fright Night Part 2 is probably the biggest out of print horror film right now. It is languishing in distribution rights hell.
RazorbladeKiss87 Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I don't think $35 is a bad price for that, at least it wasn't the last time I owned it. I think the most expensive single movie I ever owned was when I had the Code Red DVD and Blu of Savage Streets, before Bill reissued it.
Mike Campbell Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I splurged a little bit and got the Alien 6 film Blu Ray collection from Wally World. The digital codes are only for the theatrical versions (which sucks in the case of Aliens), but the actual discs have both the theatrical and special editions of Alien and Aliens and the unrated versions of Alien 3 and Resurrection. And being the OCD stickler that I am for organization, I created an Alien list on my Fandango account and have them sorted by cannon chronology, including Romulus, even though I don't offically own that one yet. 1

If you have or create a Movies Anywhere account linked to wherever you redeemed the codes, the director's cuts are included in the bonus features on Movies Anywhere. (Assuming you used either Amazon, Fandango at Home, Apple, or Microsoft to redeem them in the first place) Edited January 26 by Brian Fowler 1

I have a Movies Anywhere Account since that's where most of my digital codes tell me to go to in order to redeem them and my Fandango account is linked to it.
Control Posted January 28 Posted January 28 More Russ Meyer coming from Severin. This time it’s MOTORPSYCHO and UP! Their initial deal was for five films, so that’s that. Hopefully it leads to more. Obviously want FPKK, but wouldn’t mind MUDHONEY. 1
Curt McGirt Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Up! has a chainsaw murder and a gay sex scene with a Hitler imitator -- anal and oral. Russ was really getting out there. I still need to watch Fright Night 2 again, dammit. And the priciest films I ever bought were a $35-40 for a DVD of Caligula and about the same for a tape of Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend. Pretty wild pair there... $40 bucks for a VHS was pretty serious back then.

Keep hearing some boutique is working on getting it out on Blu ray and 4k. But who knows when that will happen.
Zimbra Posted January 31 Posted January 31 I haven't bought a new DVD in years but Arrow is doing a 4K special edition of The Long Kiss Goodnight that comes out right before my birthday and I really love that stupid movie. 2

Curt McGirt Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Man, if you gotta toss in a pick where you give a nod to yourself, Blow Out is probably as good as it gets.
Curt McGirt Posted February 5 Posted February 5 There isn't one yet?! Holy crap, I would have thought that would have been one of the first '80s genre flicks they picked for the Collection.

I always got Buckaroo Banzai and Baron Munchausen confused growing up, so having them both have Criterion releases make sense.
odessasteps Posted February 7 Posted February 7 We got the Criterion Robocop back in the day, so that might have filled the niche at the time. 1
Curt McGirt Posted February 7 Posted February 7 That's the one I've wanted for ages and ages but never bought. (The other one is Night of the Living Dead, because I haven't owned an actual copy besides my 30+ year old Goodtimes VHS, for ages. And it's my favorite movie. Go figure.)
