Charlie M.
What if it's like a 2 year deal for Miller? You can't reasonably go into a season with Markstrom and Lack.
Jiji
Why? What's the point of just missing the playoffs or making them and losing in 4 or 5 again? The NHL is turning into the NBA where if you aren't a top tier team there's no point in competing and you may as well tank, particularly with a draft class like the 2015 on the horizon. If we sign Miller, who is a piece of shit in all ways conceivable (horrible teammate, consistently whines, prima donna attitude, hasn't been top 10 in SV % since 09-10 and 3 times in the last 10 years), we will lose Markstrom for nothing. So we traded Luongo for Matthias, the ability to sign Ryan Miller, and to pay $800k of Luongo's cap for the next gazillion years. Hiller, post-vertigo, is even worse than Miller . If you want a goalie to push Lack, then Niemi is available and probably wouldn't cost much. I'd go with Lack and Markstrom, seeming as Markstrom didn't even have a goalie coach in San Antonio and could be refined by Melanson, who has done wonders with everybody he's worked with. Be foolish to give up on Markstrom when he was the best goalie prospect not two years ago. But that's not going to happen. We'll sign shitbums like Miller, Iginla (if we're lucky), Bolland, Moulson, etc. to make a push for the playoffs instead of accepting our lot. Fans don't want to see more of the same and are excited to watch the kids play. I think a rebuild, if handled well, wouldn't see the end of the world in Vancouver, and shouldn't take longer than 3-5 years. Pulling a Calgary Flames would only delay the inevitable. Calgary's only just now starting to get things sorted and it will take them another 3 or 4 years to get back to playoff contenders
Death From Above
Colorado trades PA Parenteau to Montreal for Danny Briere.
Jiji
Colorado must not be re-signing Stastny for sure. Weird that they have to throw in a pick to get shitbum Briere when Parenteau is nearly twice the player he is.

Calgary's only just now starting to get things sorted and it will take them another 3 or 4 years to get back to playoff contenders Everything that could possibly go wrong last season did and they still weren't bad enough to get a Top 3 pick. Unless you're THAT bad, the difference between those middle picks comes down to scouting anyway. Benning's forced to ride out these couple years where everyone has a NTC and see what happens. If he brings in a bunch of vets on short-term deals, that's fine. If he signs a bunch of them to long-term deals, that's insane. That's what Calgary did during those years. If you bring in these vets on two-year deals and the team doesn't improve, they're tradeable contracts.

Weird that they have to throw in a pick to get shitbum Briere when Parenteau is nearly twice the player he is.I'm honestly pretty convinced Stastny is a Blue now. We have pulled almost completely back from the Spezza talks, and Colorado is trading for a C.Also, I feel for Canuck fans: signing old vets for one last playoff run is really not the way that team should be going. Jiji
lol, Friedman tweets that Edmonton is shopping like their only good d-man in Jeff Petry. Amazing club. Just when I think my Canuckdom hit rock bottom, Edmonton proves otherwise. It can be sooo much worse.
Death From Above
Petry is so bad in a top pair role. So very very bad. On a good team he'd be fine on a second pair with someone to babysit him. He is what we have, though, and we need to move on experienced defense like we need our goalie to play with his mask on backwards. I don't like Petry but I have a hard time believing we improve by trading him.
Charlie M.
Today I learned that Dany Heatley is only 33. I pegged him for at least 36. Secretly hoping he signs with like Davos and fires clappers at chubby Swiss goalies for the next 5 years.
Jiji
Today I learned that Dany Heatley is only 33. I pegged him for at least 36. Secretly hoping he signs with like Davos and fires clappers at chubby Swiss goalies for the next 5 years. That is incredible. His face looks nearer to 40 than 30. *snort -> spit* Fuggin' all-star though. Sports Net's tweedledee and tweedledum (Kypreos and MacLean) tweet that Bolland is close to signing with Florida for 6 or 7 years at north of $5 million per year and that Miller could be in Vancouver for five years, respectively. Need paper bag, hyperventilating. For mco and the Panther crew: Hopefully for the both of us, it's just them being them and not actually calling something. The Man Known as Dan
Whoever gets Stastny might overpay, but unless we go over 8 mill, it won't even be close to the worst contract given this free agency.
mco543
So the Panthers went from potentially getting one of my favorite players in Lecavalier for worthless Upshall to signing another fucking Blackhawk for way too much. Why can't Tallon sign one of the Hawks' good players? I can't remember the last time they acquired someone I liked. Tomorrow is going to be a disaster, they're going to end up overpaying for whoever the sign and I doubt any of them will be legitimate players; fringe 2nd liners as 1st liners, 3rd liners as 2nd liners, and garbage the rest of the way. I hate my team. I should've bailed when I had the chance years ago and been a Wing fan like my mom.

mco543
Well when you're rebuilding for 17 years you luck out and land a few pieces in the draft here and there.
Jiji
Still, I think if Tallon wasn't Tallon, you could turn that sum'bitch around in a few years. But he's Tallon and he's going to sign Dave Bolland to the worst contract.
Death From Above
I dunno the Rangers and Leafs have almost $50 million in cap room between them. I still have hope the Leafs sign Richards for like a billion dollars and the Rangers sign Bolland for eight hundred million.
DouglasC
Jason Spezza off to Dallas. Supposedly 3 prospects and a draft pick coming back to Ottawa.
Jiji
From TSN: The Senators will receive Alex Chiasson, Alex Guptill, Nicholas Paul and second round pick in 2015. Ludwig Karlsson is headed to Dallas alongside Spezza. Chiasson is good but probably not the guy you want back as the main piece of a Spezza trade. Guptill seems an alright prospect, though his college numbers have plateaued, and who the hell is Nicholas Paul? Worse value than the Kesler trade and that's saying something. Surprising that centre is the most valued position but when two players make themselves available (albeit to a limited amount of teams) nobody is throwing much out there for them. Both Dallas and Anaheim did a good job cleaning up. I like what Nill's been doing in Dallas so far.
The Man Known as Dan
Congrats to the Stars: that was a good deal for them. Now the Blues have to get Stastny. The End.
Death From Above
Dallas is not fucking around eh. lol one desert team adds Gagner and the other adds Spezza I think I know which won this exchange.
Death From Above
Also there seems to be a lot of people in the Edmonton circle that think we're talking with Olli Jokinen. I'll let you write your own punchline here.
