I hope we get Uruguay vs Canada for the Leeds Derby between Bielsa and Marsch.

Dream dashed

FINALLY

If you can't steal Bielsa from Argentina, give a lot of money to Jurgen Klopp to try his hand at coaching a national team, please and thank you.

I'm not believing it now until I see Klopp on the touch line for the US at the World Cup.

Colombia beat Uruguay 1-0 being down a man for the entire second half.

Uruguay celebrated their loss by ...  hmm... earning possible lifetime bans from international soccer!

(EDIT -- apparently that's Liverpool's Darwin Nunez leading the charge too)

Oh please, it's CONEMBOL.  They'll probably get bonuses for that.

video of the fight. Sounds like Colombian fans were "having a go" at Uruguay's Wives and families. Don't know whether that's taunting or something physical.

Jimmy Lozano is out as Mexico's coach. He is being replaced by Javier Aguirre

Copa final kick off getting delayed because getting into Hard Rock is currently a total shit show, which bodes well for the World Cup in 2 years..

I just got in after waiting about 2hours to get in.  An absolute shit show does not cover it.

Apparently "thousands" of people tried to gate crash.

I'm curious if Miami is going to lose World Cup venue status because of the fiasco that is occurring tonight?

FIFA will blame Comnebol.

Lot of people blaming Conmebol.  Deservedly so, I think.  Stadium has hosted Super Bowls, World Series, Taylor Swoft concert, a WresrleMania, etc., plus two football games a week if the Hurricanes and Dolphins both play at home. I assume event staff know how to run an event.  Also wondering why people are reluctant to blame fans.  If Dolphins fans acted like that, they’re be an immediate backlash. If Hurricane fans rioted and stormed the gates, people would be losing their season tickets and students would be getting suspended. Soccer fans riot and people just shrug. Weird.

A coworker was at the game.  He saw people scaling walls and crawling into the ventilation ducts to get into the seating.  Not just a few people.  Dozens, if not hundreds.  After the game started, police and stadium personnel came by checking tickets.  They cleaned out an entire row in front of him. Stadium personnel are going to be at a disadvantage in these situations because their preparations assume crowds will behave like people. When they son’t, you get chaos.

Someone pointed out this was literally the plot of an episode of Always Sunny in Philadelphia.   Someone at Hard Rock Stadium needs an extremely serious ass kicking.  I'm sure the security execs at the stadium are, as we speak, being read the riot act.

Personally though.... I'm back at the office and exhausted.  But I will say, the crowd was probably 70/30 Colombians, and hearing ~50,000 people singing O Gloria Inmarcesible (the Colombian national anthem) next to my 84 year old dad brought a tear to my eye.  Worth every single penny I paid.  🇨🇴

I saw somewhere on Twitter that this happened at the 2021 Euro final in Wembley as well..

Apparently there's a Netflix doc about it:
