RIPPA
Oh the irony of finding the 2022 thread and then realizing I need to start the new one Couple of pieces of news The Golden Globes will return to NBC. TUESDAY, Jan 10, 2023 (Week 18 of the NFL Season is Sunday and the NCAA Championship game is Monday so they are avoiding both). Also the Critics Choice Awards are Sunday, Jan 18 so they weren't left with many choices. The other piece of news is that, per Variety, Michelle Williams' work in The Fablemans will be campaigned for the Oscars under Best Actress (I guess folks were convinced she was a lock for Best Supporting Actress)

RIPPA
I will post this first before posting the Golden Globe nominations The original score for Tar and Doja Cat's song "Vegas" (from Elvis) have both been disqualified from consideration for the Oscars Vegas was DQed because it has way too much of "Hound Dog" in it Tar meanwhile Quote The disqualification of Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir’s “Tár” score was widely predicted. Sources say that it was deemed ineligible because the amount of original, audible music was insufficient, and ran afoul of a second rule that “a score shall not be eligible if it has been diluted by the use of pre-existing music.”

Still hoping for EEAAO to pull it out, or at least Banshees because both are absolutely fantastic.
Contentious C
God, if Spielberg wins again for something schmaltzy over two films that are *actually different from the ordinary*, I may never watch another movie of his. Kinda annoyed The Bear had so few noms and so few wins, but whatever. I kinda doubt Abbott Elementary can really be *that* good.
Curt McGirt
Everything Everywhere is too foreign and bizarre and Banshees is... well, the same, in its way. Spielberg wins again. John from Cincinnati
Fabelmans (spelled Bockwinkel, not Bockwinkle) is firmly third on the depth chart right now, but maybe the director win gains it some momentum. It's a fine movie, and more uncomfortable than I think some people imagine. Just count yourselves lucky the awards-giving bodies aren't all in on Elvis. The Natural
I really hope The Batman wins Best Makeup. When it was announced Colin Farrell was playing him, people myself included wondered how that was going to work. Perhaps a thin Penguin than the traditional fat man? When we saw the Penguin in the first trailer, people couldn't believe it was Colin.

The Natural
Bumping as the Oscars nominations are out today. Like Tom Cruise to pick the big ones up for Top Gun: Maverick. Fancy Angela Bassett to be the first MCU performance to be nominated for an acting award. Seems Best Actor is a three way battle between Austin Butler/Brendan Fraser/Colin Farrell. Fancy Butler to do it. I want The Batman to do well but think it'll be technical awards only. Edited January 24, 2023 by The Natural
The Natural
Angela Bassett is the first from the MCU to be nominated for an Academy Award for acting, Best Supporting Actress. Right The Batman gets nominated for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. The Batman deserved a Best Cinematography nomination. Ditto Best Original Score. No Tom Cruise for Best Actor, Top Gun: Maverick. Top Gun: Maverick gets a Best Picture nomination. Edited January 24, 2023 by The Natural
