The Natural
Konami has finally explained exactly what Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeros is and how it will be sold, describing it as an ‘entry experience and prologue’ to the events of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Although there was some early confusion as to whether they were entirely separate games or not that’s more or less what has been assumed for the last few months. Although according to Konami the specific purpose of Ground Zeroes is to ‘act as a bridge between the linearity of existing titles and the full open-world environments of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’. ‘The advanced capabilities of the Fox Engine have allowed me to tell the new story in a new way. There will be a significant difference in what Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain brings to the series, so we want to ease players into the new open world environment and its potential,’ said series creator Hideo Kojima. ‘As such, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes has been designed to introduce key elements, allowing them to fully benefit from all that the new game will offer.’ Although there’s no specific release date yet Ground Zeroes will be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 in spring of next year. The boxed current gen versions will sell for £29.99 or you can get the digital versions for £19.99. The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions are implied to be digital only, at a price of £29.99. Although we still know almost nothing about the stories of either game Ground Zeroes has been revealed to involve a rescue mission in a Cuban prison camp, presumably a reference in some manner to Guantanamo Bay. ‘The prelude showcases key advances to the series made possible by its use of Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine, with a large open environment, and missions where time of day and weather have a dynamic effect on the game and its missions’, claims Konami’s blurb. ‘These elements will play a vital part in the story set up in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, while familiarising users with the possibilities they offer ahead of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’. The Natural
Phantom Pain is also getting a current gen version. Goodie because I'll be on the current gen for nearly all the next year, maybe longer. My likes are out for the day but will give you one when they come back.
TheVileOne
I'm in the same boat. I want a PS4, but I won't be able to get one for a while. Plus, I never like to buy first generation anyway since they will make a better one later anyway and for a cheaper price.

I got a PlayStation for Christmas 1998, a PlayStation 2 for Christmas 2002, a Wii for Christmas 2007 which I traded in for a brand Xbox 360 Elite 120GB with a choice of two games from four and I bought Batman: Arkham Asylum at the same time in September 2009. Didn't the current slim one come out shortly after?

Red is Dead
Yeah - I'm stoked for MGS V to come out on current gen platforms. I've got too many games to play on the 3, and i cant afford to put down £400 on a 4. So I'm staying with the 3. Unsure as to why they've removed Hayter and added Sutherland though. Hayter is "boss". It's like taking out jack bauer and putting in...well, David Hayter.
The Natural
Thanks, TheVileOne. I went with the Xbox 360 as it was the cheaper option for me at the time. I've played Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Metal Gear Solid is an awesome game for how it plays, the story and the memorable characters. A big influence on the gaming world and one of the greatest games of all time. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is my least favourite game of the three. Though I wasn’t a fan of Raiden at first, he grew on me and it was different playing as an apprentice. Doing so made for the best moment in the game when you team up with Snake to take on an influx of guards. The Emily escort mission proved annoying particularly the underwater section. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater has a great story finding out how the protagonist in later games started out and terrific boss fights particularly the one with The End. Changing the camouflages may grate at times but everything else makes up for it. I'm undecided whether Metal Gear Solid or Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is the best of the three. I do know they are both two of the best games of all time. As a fan of the series, it's a shame I've never played Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. I can't see a port of it ever happening. Unsure as to why they've removed Hayter and added Sutherland though. Hayter is "boss". It's like taking out jack bauer and putting in...well, David Hayter. Agreed. Going to be weird not hearing David Hayter.
Red is Dead
Kiefer's doing the mo-cap as well for Snake, so it will be weird seeing him moving differently. Cant wait to see the inevitable horse vs x battle in the middle east. That dude on fire riding the horse as well looks typically mantis.
RandomAct
I think the idea behind removing Hayter is that Big Boss is getting older. Boss and Solid Snake looked and sounded different later on. Old Snake obviously bore little resemblance to Big Boss, so I'm ok with the change. Now if they ever do another game with Solid Snake, then yes, Hayter needs to be on board. Also, count me among those that is thrilled both games are getting a current gen release. I don't plan on getting a PS4 until Kingdom Hearts III comes out. Super Ape
Re: Hayter -- It's a Kojima game. Hayter made a big stink about being let go, but I honestly think he's still involved somehow, and that there's something going on that we don't know about. It wouldn't be an MGS game without a total mindfuck, after all. Though, if they REALLY wanted to show Big Boss aging they just needed John Cygan (Solidus in MGS2) since he was supposed to be the accurate clone, but that's a quibble for another day. I'll be getting a PS3 from a friend of a friend with MGS4 and a bunch of other games, but I see myself buying the Legacy Collection very soon; all four main MGS games and Peace Walker, AND the original Metal Gears. Sounds like a plan for me to play them all before Ground Zeroes comes out. And I wasn't getting a PS4 until Final Fantasy XV and KH3 come out, so they can take their sweet time with Phantom Pain. I got plenty to keep me busy until then.
Fat Spanish Waiter
Peace Walker was a butt dude, I wouldn't get your hopes up. I have low, low, expectations for five.
TheVileOne
The Hayter change doesn't really annoy me because it's Big Boss not Solid Snake. They are not the same character. It wouldn't surprise me if young Solid Snake or Liquid showed up at some point in these games. Though would you want Hayter as a teen Snake? Fat Spanish Waiter
Hayter's voice got shittier by the game, the outrage is just nerdly whining.
Super Ape
Peace Walker was a butt dude, I wouldn't get your hopes up.I have low, low, expectations for five.Butt or not, the whole proper MGS series and the original MSX Metal Gear games make it worth $40.Also; watch the epilogue of Phantom Pain be the opening of Metal Gear 1. Or because Kojima's a nut, the entirety of Metal Gear 1 done Solid-style.
Antacular
Stoked that MGSV is coming to PS3, as I have no interest in buying a PS4. MGS4 was the original reason why I bought a PS3 way back when. By far my favorite game series.

Cliff Hanger
I think it's time for me to go back and play MG2: SS again. I tried a few months ago on Vita, but found out that while the first MSX game works beautifully as a portable title, the radar on MG2 is pretty much unreadable at that size. I've said before that even as flawed as it is, it's easily my favorite game in the series, and that still holds true.

Jiji
So, a friend lent me Revengeance. Not my cup of tea but it's a short game, so I may power through it. How do you not get a "D" in the combat ranking?
