BrianS81177 Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I don't think we have one of these threads going for this year yet so I thought I'd get it going. I've got 3 WR slots to fill. One is Calvin Johnson (vs Was), second one is Wes Welker (vs Oak). Third is between Steve Smith (vs NYG) or Tavon Austin (vs Dal). I know conventional wisdom says Smith because you always trust your studs (and the Giants D is a mess right now) but I can't shake this feeling that Austin is a breakout game just waiting to happen.
Hail Sabin Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 PPR? Return yards count? Depending on that Steve Smith is your guy with return yards I would lead towards austin.
BrianS81177 Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 Return yards don't count. I've been leaning towards Smith anyway though I have a feeling Austin will work his way into the lineup soon. I'm trying to trade Smith anyway cuz I'm super deep at WR (in addition to Megatron, Welker, Smith and Austin I have Justin Blackmon) so hopefully he blows up this week.
SirFozzie Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Tom Brady (vs TB) and Matthew Stafford (vs Wash) Brady's due for a breakout after two decent-at-best weeks, but Washington's defense has been.. well they need to improve to get to porous (6 Pt Passing TD's, 1 Point per 25 yards)
BrianS81177 Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 Normally I would never vote against Brady but the Redskins have been so terrible it's hard to sit Stafford. I can see him tossing 3 TDs to Megatron in the first half alone.
Kyle Casey Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I know that if Gronk starts, he's going into my flex spot. But if he doesn't, who should I go with? I've got: Joique Bell (vs.WAS) James Starks (vs. CIN) Giovani Bernard (vs. GB) I'm leaning towards starting Bell, because lolredskins, but I think a case can be made for any of them.
Craig H Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I would avoid playing Starks against GB. I actually have my own conundrum regarding Gronk. If he starts, I think I have to play him, but my two TE tandem of EIFERT and Martellus Bennett have been pretty serviceable, scoring me a decent amount of points in the first two weeks. On top of that, I have Reggie Wayne in my lone flex spot (my two WR spots are currently occupied by Demaryius Thomas and DeSean Jackson, with Steve Smith and Larry Fitzgerald on my bench). So If Gronk starts, I guess I bench Eifert, but I worry about how much playing time Gronk will actually have. Then again, he may be the only guy for Brady to throw to. I could also bench Wayne, but I don't want to start playing fantasy whack-a-mole.
odessasteps Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Vikings D vs Browns or Bears D vs Steelers I presume the former, but i have a lingering doubt.
Death From Above Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Gronkowski is probably not playing this week unless something drastic changes the next two days, as the Patriots are really not interested in rushing him back and risking losing him for the important part of the year. Roll with whatever substitute you have. I'm going through the same thing with Roddy White myself, where he is playing but really not playing. If a report comes out today or tomorrow that says Gronk is in then sure roll with him but if it stays quiet, I'd not take chances there because you're risking a 0. In Kyle's case I'd be pretty tempted to go with Bell against Washington because their D has been really poor, and with Reggie Bush down that should be at least 15 touches for Bell to do... something. I don't like Starks against the Bengals much. I have my own Brady dilemma of Brady or Eli Manning. Neither guy has done what you'd hope yet but Eli has still put up big fantasy numbers despite the 7 picks. Brady still has pretty limited targets. Of course the minute I put Eli in you know that dude that dropped 6000 passes last week will have 4 TD's and 135 yards. Also I guess I need to wait on seeing if Ray Rice is healthy. Considering benching him for a week for Daryl Richardson vs. the Cowboys if he is hurting.
Craig H Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Bears D vs Steelers And to add to this, the Steelers offense is fucking terrible. A pathetic 75 rushing yards thus far and I don't think they know how to convert a third down. Although, if you have both the Vikings D and Bears D, then you have two weeks of easy points since Pittsburgh plays Minnesota at Wembley Stadium next week.
Hail Sabin Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Tom Brady (vs TB) and Matthew Stafford (vs Wash) Brady's due for a breakout after two decent-at-best weeks, but Washington's defense has been.. well they need to improve to get to porous (6 Pt Passing TD's, 1 Point per 25 yards) Stafford since I watched my packers kill them (Redskins) last week and until Gronk comes back Brady ceiling is probably 4 TD'S at most also the Buccs have improved their secondary greatly from last year. . I know that if Gronk starts, he's going into my flex spot. But if he doesn't, who should I go with? I've got: Joique Bell (vs.WAS) James Starks (vs. CIN) Giovani Bernard (vs. GB) I'm leaning towards starting Bell, because lolredskins, but I think a case can be made for any of them. Starks is the guy for Green Bay unless Lacy makes a miracle come back. The Packers aren't great against the run so Bernard could have a really good game. If Bush doesn't play then Bell is the choice if Bush plays I would lean towards Starks since it's only him as our running back left outside john kuhn. Vikings D vs Browns or Bears D vs SteelersI presume the former, but i have a lingering doubt. Bears D sacks and turnovers.
The Damn Yeti Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 In one league I'm starting Peyton at home against OAK, and sitting Vick vs. KC. Vick blew up huge last week, but its unlikely he'll reach the same heights. Peyton should shred OAK (same reason I'm starting Julius Thomas instead of Greg Olsen vs. G-men). My other league is less clear - Brady vs. TB hoping for a break-out game, or RG3 vs. DET probably playing from behind all 4 quarters in the air? I've got RG3 in now. Also, Julio Jones @ MIA, Julian Edelman vs. TB, Tavon Austin @ DAL, Reggie Wayne @ SF - Pick 3.
Death From Above Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Last week RGIII (and the offense) were terrible for three quarters. RG III put up 23.9 points in Yahoo basic scoring anyway, because garbage time scoring still counts. That was more than double what Brady put up in, admittedly, a pretty hideous football game. I would roll with him.

Kyle Casey Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Okay, um...so, now that Trent Richardson is a Colt, do I dare still start him this week, being that the Colts are playing the 49ers? Long-term, this definitely improves Richardson's prospects, IMO.
Craig H Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Shit, now I think you have to roll with the Vikings D this week.

Julio Jones, Julian Edelman and Reggie Wayne are the 3 I would start. Yeah, Vikings is the play now with no trent richardson in the lineup. Who are your other RBs that you would start over Trent?
LethalStriker Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Should I keep Brees as the starting QB or go with Schaub? Brees is projected to get 18 points while Schaub is 17. But Brees is going against the 20th defense while Schaub is going the 30th.

I think RG3 is a lot more hurt than they are letting on and I'm betting he's headed for the bench (unless Suh rips out his heart and eats it first)

elizium Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 So, need to start 3 receivers. Banged up Fitty (@ NO), Stevie Johnson (@ Jets), Torrey Smith (HOU), Banged up TY Hilton (@ SF) I'm pretty sure it's between Hilton and Torrey as to who gets dropped. Not that it matters since I don't have any runningbacks. I'm reduced to starting Oingoboingo of the Browns. I'm tired of getting fucked over by John Fox and Montee Ball.

On the plus side the 49ers have given up alot of points to RBs this year one of the experts on nfl network said 5th most this year. So wait till Saturday or Sunday if you can set your lineups right before kickoff of the 1pm games. So, need to start 3 receivers. Is the Ravens game in houston or Baltimore since that effects Flacco's fantasy numbers? Flacco is way better at home than on the road has been his track record. Fitz and Stevie no doubt. It comes down to Hilton and Smith but the Packers did rip up that secondary in the 1st week of the season.
Hail Sabin Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 So yeah Fitz, Why so Serious, Torrey smith are the 3 I would start.
