Zimbra
On 2/11/2024 at 3:57 PM, SirSmUgly said: OK, I've played enough to have some better-formed thoughts: Like I said, it's very reminiscent of Smackdown. I like it, though I wish they'd taken it even farther and ended up somewhere near WWE All-Stars. There are a lot of systems in this thing - the match rating system from FirePro, the momentum system from the AKI games, etc. I sort of like the systems upon systems. What I don't like is the jank, which really shows itself in multi-man matches. Tag matches are awful between the AI and the consistent janky behavior of the system. In one tag match, I was controlling Sting on the ground and trying to trip an opponent in the ring. The opponent's tag partner, who was standing on the apron but wasn't anywhere near me, ended up teleporting me from the floor to the apron in a grapple position and then hitting a move on the apron that catapulted me back into the ring. That's the most egregious example of dumb tag jank, which combined with very dumb tag partner AI makes tag matches terrible. This is a game that has some value and has some potential, but it needed another year in development before being released. I can live with a lack of options for the first wrestling game in a series - I even got a good thirty or forty hours of fun out of WWF RAW on OG Xbox, for goodness sake - but the lack of options AND the lack of engine polish sucks. I'm glad I waited until the 15 USD digital/30 USD physical price point to buy this. It's a bummer because, like Smackdown, I think it's an iteration away from being a really good game but given how it's sold I don't think we'll ever get the sequel.

I actually didn't like Know Your Role, but I know people who swear by that game. It moved too fast for my tastes. The series got great for me once Just Bring It came out. I get your point, though; if they take this base, clean up all the jank and AI issues, and iterate on the gameplay, they've got something going. As far as I can see, it sold 500K copies-ish, which is not bad in a vacuum for a new IP. However, the costs of putting this game together might be a bit much. I assume, since AEW published this and since Tony Khan seems to have money to burn, they'll take another swing at a console wrestling game. Zimbra
You know what, well played AEW for putting all the wrestlers I wanted in the final pack and suckering another $16.99 out of me. I hate it, but I respect the hustle.

Cliff Hanger
2k's partnered streamers and other creators got 2k24 so they could hype it (the WWEgames Twitter said to start looking for videos from "your favorite WWE2K creators" starting tomorrow) and Insider Gaming is reporting that Brock has been "dummied out"--his data is still in the software but he's no longer accessible as a playable character. No word on Vince. Source: https://insider-gaming.com/exclusive-brock-lesnars-wwe-2k24-status/ EDITED TO ADD: And about 10 min after I posted this, 2k confirmed Vince and Brock were deleted from the playable roster with the real and true final list: https://wwe.2k.com/2k24/roster-list/ Anyone not on there will have to be DLC if they're in at all. I'm guessing they had to keep Vince in as NPC-only or else toss the WM17 match from Showcase. Brock may very well not appear at all unless there's a fight with him in the Rise story. Cliff Hanger
Sorry to double post, but 2k posted a teaser for the DLC chars. A lot of them are obvuous--the Lex Express, Kairi's ship's wheel, Lyra's raven feather--but we won't know all of them for sure til next week. Also notable that last year 25 characters were announced but 28 were released--Uncle Howdy with the 4th paid pack, and Candace LeRae and Michin were freebies who dropped as a surprise alongside the second paid pack were surprises. https://twitter.com/WWEgames/status/1761137555922440270?s=19 Edited February 25 by Cliff Hanger

For KAIRI, I'd guess it would depend on how much 2K was "in the loop" with her re-signing as it was rumored as far back as September/October on if she is first pack or later pack. So if they could confirm it internally back then they've had a couple extra months on her to start prepping. They also have assets of her from 2K20, although I don't know if any of those are useable or if they'd have to start over. Punk I think will be much more difficult to get into this game since I assume they can't use assets from a game ten years old and its a shorter time period. In the past it always seemed like it took them at least half a year to get new wrestlers in, maybe he can be a post-DLC packs offering for $5 or something once he returns in the summer. Legends are always hit and miss just based on personal preference but hard to get mad about the ones announced so far. Post Malone is silly but harmless. Casey
Yeah last year they had DLC packs drop every month from April to August. This year they skip every other month once they get past July. I wonder if they saw gamers drop the game sometime after the summer last year and this is their way to inflate user engagement by stretching out the post-launch content. It's whatever to me, all the good stuff (IMO) is in the Punk drop. It's not like they're giving me Keiji Mutoh circa 2001-2003 or anything. The Headbangers being in is really cool, but yeah... Dudleys, Sandman, Punk and Terry Funk? Shit, take my money. Hopefully the Dudleys being in the ECW pack means they'll be in their ECW gear, not the WWF/E gear. I'm just ready to do that gauntlet match mode with Punk. Oddly enough I'm really excited about that match type.

At this point I think it's just gonna be a tradition that whoever picks the songs for the soundtrack gets to be DLC. I preferred Bad Bunny being a separate piece of launch-day DLC last year over MGK in 2022 and Post in 2024 being in one of the big packs. Man I fucking hate that we have to wait til Sept for Dragon Lee and Lyra Valkyria and Nov for the WCW legends.
