jstout Posted August 19, 2014 Share Posted August 19, 2014 OK, apparently God mode has been patched. And my favorite (and long-requested) change: tanks now show up on the map with a tank icon. No more putting bounties on tanks to get a better idea where they are. I think they've all but killed the tank. Also, this is the 200th straight update where they claim to have fixed the constantly spawning armored cars issue. Yeah, right. They've been playing with mission payouts. All but neuters the Rhino in free mode and doesn't really do diddly since most griefers are now ace Lazer pilots now and those don't have a fancy icon on the map to warn you. I think you're missing the point of griefing vehicles of choice getting equal treatment. There were already mechanisms in place to spot / defeat twanking (Rhino armor being nerfed, splash damage being adjusted, watching fucking WEAZEL before going outside, the fact that you can hear explosions clear across the city, etc.) but a Lazer can be on you in no time flat, and it's not like you have a lot of time to bring up your mini-map before the pilot starts his attack run. jstout Posted August 19, 2014 Share Posted August 19, 2014 Yeah, I don't think the tank thing is a bad idea at all, it's just funny how something you used to see 2-3 times a session (or more) has been reduced to an afterthought. And I agree it'd be nice to have a jet icon on the map. They've already got it built. I bet that's something people start asking for and will probably be added with the next update, especially if jets keep their status as griefing weapon of choice. And I did one of the new Coquette races. It handles really well for a Sports Classic, but I expect that handling to go completely to hell when you soup it up. Good to see that the guilt by association bug has been fixed. Manual targeting option is probably there to keep you from having to eyeball ground vehicle targets like tanks and cars. May be late getting on though - gotta get the truck from my wife and go buy a shitload of mulch after work. Really hoping the god mode bug is actually fixed for good. I'm not feeling too confident, based on Rockstar's track record thus far. Loving the new tank icon deal. It should make our various sticky bomb tricks even easier to implement. I think they've kinda equalized payouts across the board. Supposedly the payout for Cops Capacity has gone up. Maybe they're finally figuring this shit out. I'm wondering what the rewards would have to be get me to play the new airborne captures and escort vs. missions. On the Lazers in freemode - I really wish they'd bring the shoulder fired anti-aircraft missile from San Andreas. That'd be one way to even the odds quickly. I tried to launch both car races and invite folks in and everyone kept getting booted with a message like "Max Crew Member Limit Reached" Of course - my Xbox just locked up on the 2nd race we just tried to do so it could be me. Andrew POE! Posted August 20, 2014 Share Posted August 20, 2014 Rockstar Games has recently issued a patch fixing online functions for Grand Theft Auto IV on PS3. So if you're interested in getting a Platinum and haven't gotten the multiplayer trophies yet, it's highly advisable that you do so. Am I misunderstanding you, or does the mean that they're shutting down online access for it? I've got that game on PS3, and I've logged more hours than I'd care to admit. I still revisit it sometimes. No, the online access for GTAIV is still up. It's just that earlier this year, Gamespy (who hosted the leaderboards and ranking system) finally shut down at the end of June/July. Rockstar at that time after Gamespy finally shut down released a patch removing Gamespy altogether. One problem: Cut Your Teeth and Wanted trophies became unachievable. The latest patch restores the ranking system, lets people level up and finally earn those trophies. The reason why I recommend to go ahead and do it now is that 1) Rockstar may finally pull online support for GTAIV later and 2) it's a good idea when something like this happens to take advantage of it. The problem is currently GTAIV's online is mostly dead and you may have to find a boosting group online to get the remaining trophies (if you care about that sort of thing).
