Lucha Underground Discussion

according to the WON

IN, possibly: Speedball Mike Bailey, Flamita and Rey Horuz

OUT, likely but not sure: Alberto

(they're talking with the Young Bucks but they're not ever going to sign the Young Bucks)

My assumption is that if Speedball and Flamita are really coming into to AAA as scheduled, then it's part of a package deal with them working LU too. It really doesn't make any sense for Flamita to be giving up his full time* Dragon Gate spot to work the second and third match on AAA shows alone, so this has to be part of the inducement. Bailey would've been recruited from a PWG show where the LU people scout, and it's probably that he was already going to working LU and AAA decided to use him too. Rey Horuz would be very good too (and they could use Rey Jr. as his mentor!) but I feel less certain than this one.

* - with the LU & AAA schedules, it seems sort of possible he could still come in and out of Dragon Gate (and Ricochet could do the same with NJPW), but who knows if the Japan promotions would be open to that.

This will never ever happen but I'd love them to get somebody with submission skills/traditional lucha style like, I dunno, maybe some people from IWRG... maybe an actual maestro... or they could just hire LA Park and Dr. Wagner Jr. and have them bleed all over the temple every episode. Just saying, we all love that stuff, but putting it into Lucha Underground and mixing either option with their own AAA/PWG style would be awesome. And it'd be on TV every Wednesday!

LA Park & Wagner can't even tuck their ego away on shows in front of 200 people that will never be seen to do a job for each other. They would never survive an environment where they'd have to trade wins or be laid out to set up future matches. They're unprofessional fucks who deserve to never get a mask match payday & live their lives like Octagon/Fuerza Guerrera do currently.

Rey Horuz looks an awful lot like the guy who ended up being the new Dragon Azteca.

That would be a pretty badass fit.

If I see Flamita I will fucking shit myself you guys.  You'll see Dave reporting FAN ESCORTED FROM TEMPLE FOR POOPING PANTS and that'll be the signal.

Argenis is staying (for now, anyway), so our Disciple of Death nightmare is over.

Argos staying is kind of really dumb but what else is he going to do anyway?

This is heavy "connecting the dots and coming up with the wrong picture" territory but

  • LU said they wanted more wrestling women in Season 2
  • LU Dark Match vet Cheerleader Melissa ran the first ever Stardom USA show
  • LU people were in attendance

Mia Yim main evented the show. She would probably be good in LU if she was free from TNA, but it sounded like she wasn't having good matches in TNA? I do not know from first hand experience.

It's cool you can totally keep Big Ryck

You might have gotten your wish one way or another.

Big Ryck worked two wXw shows yesterday and today (yesterday was the one that Alberto del Rio was also supposed to be on and bailed out on) and apparently after his match today he held a promo saying this was his last wrestling match ever.

Couldn't handle my constant barrage of Street Fighter 2 references.

Glad he showed up, at least, I've been meaning to ask you that but forgot.

Yeah, it was a pretty fun time actually. They even got a last minute replacement for Alberto in Jeff Jarrett. Say what you want about Jarrett, but he gained some fans that day. He worked the whole match as a heel and heeled it up to the max with some pretty funny shenanigans. Tommaso Ciampa and Marty Scurrl were also at the show and Ciampa decided to work his whole match like a comedy match for some reason. Big Daddy Walter told me to get out of the way so he could throw his opponent onto my chair. So it was all good.

Did LU charge admission for the first season's tapings? They might be able to do so with this season's, would be a little bit of extra money, right? Or am I forgetting something?

No, they didn't charge, and probably won't because I think you end up having to regulate things differently and pay taxes and treat it like a sporting event instead of a TV taping if you do.

Mia Yim's TNA run is odd.  From what I heard she does great in places like Shine and is a good wrestler.  But the matches haven't been as good as I hoped, even against people like Gail Kim.  It is possible it's because it's TNA, but I was expecting more.  That said, I still think she'd be a good fit for LU because it's hard to take stock in much of anything associated with TNA.
