Curt McGirt Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 I want to change what I said about Lady Frost and say she's more a midcard gatekeeper than a JTTS. One, 'JTTS' is somewhat denigrating of a term, and two, she seems above it. It's more fair and deservative of someone who honestly deserves an angle and a belt instead of where she's at. 1

But I feel the recent and frequent use of Lady Frost is a sign of her regard within the company. Considering others like Julia and Skye have played similar roles and found avenues to get elevated to more high profile matches. She should be feeling more confident in her position. She’s hot. I’m sold she has it. Bonus: Helping out Stephanie before Moné out star powers her at least sold me the match. That’s gotta score some points. We like points. 3

I will ask the simple question though: has she won a single match in AEW? It looks like she is about 0-11. She seems like a solid hand but... gatekeepers win a good amount of matches. It appears she is 6-15 in ROH so... if she goes on a winning streak there she could be a ROH midcard gatekeeper? Not a knock on her talent but as of now she is what she is in AEW, which is bottom of the food chain.

I think the vignette either clearly telegraphed that he was definitely going to be the wildcard or clearly telegraphed that he definitely wasn't. I'm just not sure which. (Except I tried googling the bracket before the show and wound up going to Wikipedia, which had the results of this match already filled in. Fuck Wikipedia.) AEW has taken (not unreasonable) criticism for having too many matches that are forgone conclusions, but I think they've done a good job with the Owen this year. This result was a surprise, and while Switchblade vs Fenix was more of a toss-up, I certainly wasn't expecting Switchblade to win cleanly. 1
tbarrie Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 And a random thought regarding Dynamite: I'm surprised I haven't seen any complaints about the DQ in the BCC vs LIJ match. (Apologies if I missed a post.) I mean, I'm definitely in the camp that feels AEW, and bookers in general, shouldn't shy away from bullshit finishes if they're used sparingly and where appropriate. But I don't see the need for this one. Is there any reason Wheeler or (preferably) Claudio couldn't just lay down for Shingo?
