Well christ, it isn't exactly a Heaven's Gate situation, is it?

....the cult or the movie?

Both don't end well.

My favorite factoid about the film is John Hurt filmed scenes for Heaven's Gate, left and did The Elephant Man, and then came back to film to rest of his scenes for Heaven's Gate.

I liked Heaven's Gate, despite any opinions to the contrary.

Oh yeah, it's not a bad film at all. Long as hell, but not a terrible film. Vilmos Zsigmond's cinematography is immaculate.

In 2024, that's just a miniseries and it wins an obligatory Primetime Emmy cause someone put a ton of money behind it. Then, it crashes out at the box office and takes down an entire studio. Such is life.

Absolutely huge box office opening for Inside Out 2, way higher then anyone anticipated. 155 Million opening weekend on an expected opening of 90 at the highest.

Woah.

Jesus, just to continue Inside Out 2's crazy run already: It did another 100 Million estimated in week 2. It's already 200 million ahead of any other summer movie so far in only 10 days of release.  Not only is that the highest gross for an animated movie ever in it's 2nd weekend, not only is it the highest grossing 2nd weekend of any movie this decade, it also has the best hold percentage of any movie to make 150 million in it's opening weekend ever. It also has the best hold of any Pixar movie since the damn Incredibles, 20 years ago.

I've been paying attention to box office stuff consistently for a bit now, and I can't think of a movie that over performed over expectations to this degree.

A Quiet Place: Day One, 86% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

MaXXXine is 74% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Lower than I and others expected to be.

Despicable Me 4 is 57% rotten on Rotten Tomatoes.

When I went to see AMC's screen unseen (which was for Fly Me To The Moon), there was a long line wrapping around the lobby to see an early preview of Despicable Me 4.

Modern American cinema is in trouble.

I've never seen any. Wasn't there a spinoff as well?

$47.6 million for Despicable Me 4 in its first 2 days is not nearly as much as the $69.4 million Inside Out 2 made in its first 2 days, but it's more than any of the other movies so far.

As we are learning - movies are only successful if parents can take their kids so they can get out of the heat
