  1. Today
  2. Sugarland Express is another WTBS 8:05 after wrestling on Saturday staple, along with The Osterman Weekend and Every Which Way But Loose (and every now and then Car Wash) James
  3. To be fair part of the assumption when Naomi won MITB is that they would head the direction of Naomi vs. Bianca.
  4. I really should've figured that whether it was tonight or later, Naomi's cash-in would be a jump to Raw. It gets some distance between her and Jade (the last thing we'd need is Jade v Naomi again in three weeks) and sets up Naomi vs Stephanie as a top program.
  5. I’d prob say Bonnie and Clyde, not to take anything away from Scarecrow.
  6. Up until today, my favorite on screen Luthor was Jon Cryer on the DCW Shows. (Superman The Animated Series doesn't count, Natural.) But Hoult just took over as number one. If anyone hasn't seen Cryer's Lex, find a YouTube compilation. He was pretty fucking great. They also do a take on Tessmacher and Otis like this movie did. When they finally called that guy Otis, I popped . And Jimmy Olsen: Pussy Magnet is completely comic book accurate to anyone who collected old 60's Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen comics. I hope he becomes Elastic Lad or giant Turtle Olsen in the sequel.
  7. The combination of a head injury severe enough for AEW to take seriously (I know that's harsh, but it's earned) and Cole's concussion history makes it real clear why he seems so unsure as to what the future holds. Heart breaks for him, never cared for his matches but he seems like a good guy and I'm not gonna wish ill on someone just because he wrestles a style I don't care for. Also I've seen some of the... let's say kookier parts of the wrestling internet community note this but I think this the rare moment they may not be wrong: Cole being deactivated with a seemingly career threatening concussion a month or so after he took that nightmarish looking maybe botched apron powerbomb is hard to hand wave away. I think back to Bret Hart and how while the Goldberg match is what everyone remembers wrestling for a few weeks after is what likely cemented the damage and... well hopefully for Cole's sake it was just that lariat but I got a real bad feeling about things.
  8. Despite the bad build or nonexistent build and WWE just throwing this together, credit to the women because they fucking brought it and it might have been WWE's best PLE of the year! There wasn't a real stinker top to bottom. Everything was at least solid to good. LOVE that Naomi is the champion right now she really deserves it. I'm torn on how they went about it because Iyo and Rhea was something special and then it ends like that but I love Naomi so I don't know. I'm torn. Stephanie Vaquer is fucking incredible and her promo ruled. I've loved her since the first time I saw her on an indy show.
  9. Movies today....watched four movies made in the 1970s today. Odds And Ends (Criterion Channel, leaving on 7/31) - 3.5/5 stars Queenie (Criterion Channel, leaving on 7/31) - 4/5 stars Family Plot (Netflix, leaving on 7/31) - 3.5/5 stars The Sugarland Express (Netflix, leaving on 7/31) - 3/5 stars Scarecrow (Criterion Channel, leaving on 7/31) - 5/5 stars Rooster Cogburn (Netflix, leaving on 7/31) - 2.5/5 stars
  10. Yeah, glad you noticed it too. It was driving me crazy during the entire movie. That's what I get for watching 4 or 5 movies a day, I notice stuff like that.
  11. I was initially excited for the prospect of Evolution 2 but it felt so haphazardly put together and like an afterthought that some of my excitement started to fade. But this ended up being a really good and fun show. Matches of the night had to be the Intercontinental opener and the main but there wasn't a bad match in the batch. Kudos to everyone and nice to see the surprise Cash In on what looked like a night light on surprises (other than the Blake turn which was overdue. As she proved in AEW, she is a far better heel than face). Will be interesting to see who ends up with first crack at the new champ. And can I say, I adored that crowd. They were so in it.
  12. It has been an issue for years now, I believe there was some evidence pointing to it being an issue with the HTTP vs HTTPS set-up but it does not appear anyone running the site has the know-how to sort it out. I try to switch it to the http version when I can as that one seems to be more likely to switch pages, but it is getting harder and harder to get that to stick
  13. That show was a whole bunch of fun. Everyone looked like they were super motivated and the crowd was having a blast, which is always a recipe for a great show as far as I'm concerned. Stephanie Vaquer getting the megapush does my heart good.
  14. Had you told me Friday that one match on this show would have several minutes of crowd crawling, i doubt I would have picked correctly. Wild-assed main event. Not a lot of big surprises outside it. Everything was at least fun. Loved Kelani Kingston, Lash carrying Nia (not a surprise since we've seen her do that with Otis but still) and the ultimate finish of the BR. Trish can still go, dammit. Tag match was a lot of fun. Glad TJD retained; i figure they will have to hold the belts until Liv is healthy barring unforeseeables.
  15. Great job. Took a 5-star MOTYC and ruined it with a stupid fucking cash in. I hate MITB so much....
  16. Becky vs. Bayley vs. Lyra was pretty darn good. Dug the action and tension. Was also nice to see the crowd into all three women while still treating Becky like a proper heel. Jacy/Jordynne was good, easily Jacy's best match in WWE. The turn by Blake at the end was interesting. Kind of curious to see where they go with it though it should please those who felt Blake was too disingenuous as potential face. Raquel/Roxanne vs. ZaRuca vs. Kabuki Warriors vs. Charlotte/Alexa was solid. Dug how they gradually built into something more and more chaotic as the match went on. Tiffany/Trish went better than expected with Trish looking pretty decent throughout. Naomi/Jade was an alright plunder match, but I honestly got more from their Wrestlemania match. Bianca in particular didn't really add much to it despite her role as ref. Its a pity as she brought more to the table in the second Rhea/Io match from earlier in the year. The battle royal wasn't particularly bad or good, but I had fun catching it. Was happy to see Lash impress and be part of the final two with Vaquer. Wish Lash won, but Vaquer was the right choice here. Rhea/Io was fantastic. Dug all of the new things they brought to the table and the continued story of Rhea getting frustrated being unable to put Io away. The swerve with Naomi's cash in was not on my bingo card but also kind of neat. It happening just as Rhea is seemingly getting her confidence back after kicking out of Io's best was neat and means that particular story gets to continue while Rhea finally has a new enemy to tunnel vision in on. Thought this was the best show from WWE this weekend. Plenty of good wrestling to go around but the IC and World title matches easily eclipsed anything from NXT and SNME. Rhea/Io is honestly a MOTYC for me rivaling the triple threat they had with Bianca at Wrestlemania. Good show.
  17. Hot damn - that was a helluva main ever
  18. That's...a pretty decent idea. It would be an abrupt turnaround for a guy who was just an active wrestler that said he was going away for a bit to suddenly show back up on tv in the role CD had.
  19. Given the result of the Bucks match, they could have Cole revealed as the new babyface authority figure on Wednesday. Not sure how well he would do in that role or more importantly whether he's physically and emotionally up for any on-screen role at the moment, but it would be another huge feel-good moment on the heels of such a feel-good ppv.
  20. Pretty funny in Bear S3 to have Richie rip off the "flying fuck into a rolling donut" remark so I'm already immediately thinking "Friedkin" a minute before Nat says it. What does NOT make sense at all is Computer. Partly because, y'know, that shit isn't that hard to do anyway. But this allegedly rational "take your medicine" guy is a RAIDERS fan?!?!?! Not someone taking his own advice, then.
  21. I don't see very well and was waiting for surprise debuts so when Juice came out in that singlet I legit thought they'd signed Mance Warner for a bit
  22. @Andrew POE! I took my daughter to see it tonight, and she wanted to see a movie in 3D, and the thing you mentioned in your review about how conversations were shot with the camera looking over one person’s shoulder was really obvious and annoying in 3D. I don’t know if they shot it that way specifically to create more scenes where they could add 3D depth or not, but I noticed it more than I did on my first watch.
  23. Watched the show last night after work and really, really enjoyed it even though I felt like shit. I've been pretty down on Mox since the Death Riders angle started, especially when he took the bump on Spike. I still wish the death match stuff wasn't a part of AEW, but I do think it's pretty remarkable that the promotion is as big as it is while incorporating it. BUT. Jon Moxley really, really does not have to put himself through glass, nails, tacks and forks. And while there's a part of him that genuinely likes doing death matches, he does it specifically for AEW. That's pretty fucking cool. As people have said here already, he really did cement himself and Adam Page as stadium main-event wrestlers last night. Also, it feels like the grimdark era of AEW was really an outgrowth of everything that happened with CM Punk. It really cast a pall over the promotion. For me, the lone bright spot was Toni Storm. There was very little fun to be had and maybe that was by design. That's probably reading too much into it. For as much as flak as the Death Riders angle got and for as much as I was in a rush for it to end, the end was very, very legitimately satisfying. It wasn't relief. It was earned, it had gravity and it ended the exact right way in a stadium full of people. Turns out AEW is pretty fucking good at doing the professional wrestling.
  24. I just got out of the theater. That was wonderful. It was the Superman movie I've wanted since I was a kid, a COMIC BOOK Superman movie. I'll always love Christopher Reeve, but I was 8 in 1978, and I was already a prolific comic book nerd and collector. So there was so much of that movie I hated at the time. I welled up with joy numerous times this afternoon. The mixture of 60's era wild and weird stuff with the post Crisis stuff was like pure nirvana.
  25. Pretty sure you could take the bristles of a toothbrush to his head and the same thing would happen. He's got one-ply toilet paper skin up there.
  26. I thought of the dumbest Casino Gauntlet story: a comedy guy wants in and gets put into a match where the winner gets to be the last entrant. He wins and is so happy. All during the Gauntlet there's a camera getting him freaking out over near falls and surprises. Finally he gets word that he's up. His music hits and he's celebrating and the match ends during his entrance.
