jchap82
MSG 10/1991 Excellent IRS-Davey Boy match that goes 20 min and includes a classic segment where Hayes and Heenan are arguing over whether bulldogs are dangerous or useless as pets. Too bad it's followed by a total snoozer b/t Anvil and Mountie. Today's crowds would have chanted "Boring". Okay, so I didn't watch the whole thing. Maybe it gets better. But after Superstars, Main Event, and NXT, I think I am done for the night. Besides, Hogan-Flair is on this card, and it's supposed to be awesome. So I'll save it for tomorrow or Saturday. That one has piper vs flair, not Hogan vs flair

jchap82
Man, these legends roundtables really do reveal just how big an asshole Ric Flair really is. On the important moments one, he asks why mick wasn't at his retirement celebration on raw, he says its because your just a barbed wire specialist. It always seems like hes looking at mick with disdain and talking down to him

I haven't watched the piper flair one yet, but I'm glad there is something else worth watching with it, and the flair-Hogan match is great, too bad they didn't headline wrestlemania
mco543
Any particular reason why they chose to use the Turner Home Video release of Havoc '90 and not the PPV version? Not that I really want to see JYD vs Moondog Rex but it's still a curious decision.
Petey
Maybe the actual master tape they had was really poor quality? I can't really thinking of anything else.
Josh Mann
Man, these legends roundtables really do reveal just how big an asshole Ric Flair really is. I realize there's a few qualfiers in this sentence, but has there been ANY scenario where giving a live mic to Ric Flair in a panel discussion has been a good idea? hammerva
911 has to be one of the most over no talent wrestler of all time. he knows maybe one move but the crowd absolutely loses their mind for him Man that Ultimate Jeopardy 1994 show in Valley Forge, PA sounds like an awesome main event. This is the match where Shane wraps a bag over Terry funk's head and piledrives him for the title. Doesn't look like that show has been released on tape. Josh Mann
OLD SCHOOL, Boston Garden, Dec 1986 Harley Race v Pedro Morales: These guys had some wicked good chemistry as both of them were in 1970s pro rasslin mode. It was just the opener but I could have watched another 10 minutes of this. Race takes a heavy middle just to give Pedro something to REALLY fire up from. And then wins with a rollup with his foot on the ropes. The Harley giveth, the Harley taketh away. Dream Team v The Islanders: Gimme my Valentine and Haku chop-off NOW. Tama, Brutus, why don't you both sit a few plays out? To show it was a different time, there were 90s RAW matches that took less time than both teams taking off their ring attire. Ken Resnick tops Gorilla's "literally" problem to infinity by saying Haku's chops were literally lethal. Valentine takes a shitkicking for the first 10 minutes of the match until he gets the best of Tama, who does a sweet twisting bump out of the ring and Tama sells the leg. Tag to Beefcake, and cue the preening and heel distractions...all the hits are here on this 2 CD collection. Hot tag and the Dreamers do a great job feeding Haku. Time limit hits before Islanders can win. Islanders want five more minutes and Dream Team bails. This was all formula, which isn't a bad thing. Hulk Hogan v Kamala: I'm probably going to watch this wondering how much of this match is by as much of the numbers as the match in the James L Knight Center in Miami a few months after this that was my first WWF house show. Probably most of them. Kamala gets momentum after Hogan fails to slam him. Check. Kamala slams Hogan and puts the beats down. Check. Comeback from two missed chops. Check. Kamala does the big man weeble wobble. Check. Until Kim Chee causes a distraction and Curtis throws a gimmick. Check. Hogan gigs huge off it. Uncheck. Knight Center only seated 5000. There were 15000 in Boston. It's ok, I understand. But holy fuck, the whole top of his skullet is red. Hogan does what no one else ever thought to do to avoid the top rope splash, which is crawl away. Uncheck. Kamala with a splash off the ropes for 2.9, Check. I'm not even going to bother checking off the comeback. Kamala retreats as opposed to the foiled 3-1 beatdown I recall. So most of the numbers is right. Big Fresh
My favorite part of the newest Countdown is Justin Roberts making fun of Bret Hart for saying Sting's Scorpion Deathlock is a different move from his Sharpshooter. This sounds wonderful. I now have to watch this episode.
Big Fresh
I agree about Ziggler vs. Del Rio. I adore that match. Also agree that Flair comes off as awful in that Legends of Wrestling thing. I was bugged right away when he spent fucking forever telling that dumb party at the Marriott story AGAIN. It had nothing to do with the topic. Captain Kronos
Just watched the legends episode about Giants – no Flair, and lots of great sentimental stories about Andre. Terrific episode. Then watched Dusty vs Corino from Living Dangerously 2000. Very bloody. Even fat, slow, and tired, Dusty sparkled. There's a magic and presence with the all-time greats that most guys don't have and will never understand. Now switched on the stream, and a legends I've never seen about Texas. Again no Flair! Good stuff.
Josh Mann
The Texas episode of Legends is worth it just for the CWF clip of 1970s Dusty recapping a match between Dusty/Murdoch and Race/Bob Roop. I can't do it justice. Just watch it.
Captain Kronos
Josh, I just typed this comment: Holy shit! Dusty back in the 70s commentating over his own Florida tag match with Murdoch against Race/Roop is maybe the greatest thing I've ever seen and heard in Rasslin! (The clip is on the Texas episode of Legends of Wrestling.)
Captain Kronos
Dear Tony S, I'm pretty sure the crowd did not "literally" explode during Sting's entrance at GAB '88. That would have been messy.
Johnny Sorrow
Yeah, I'm about as big a Flair fan as there is but he's insufferable and just awful on the few Roundtables he did. I'd be saying to the TV, "Dude, I love ya, please shut the fuck up."
pipGofern
I can almost forgive Flair for ragging on Douglas because Dean certainly got his shots in but his attitude toward Foley is obnoxious. It really does come across like he told himself, "this guy is a bum who doesn't deserve to be on a panel with me" and then set about to interrupt and big shot him at every opportunity. What's worse - and not gonna lie, I'd mark out like a mofo if I met Flair myself - but Taz spending the whole episode kissing his ass just made it that much worse. I get that your a lifelong fanboy but jeez..
clintthecrippler
From the MSG 10/22/84 episode of WWE Old School: Sgt. Slaughter stares down his opponent for the evening, Nikolai Volkoff. Sgt. Slaughter then pantomimes picking up Volkolff, bodyslamming him, and then dropping his drawers to take a dump on him. Gorilla Monsoon's call: "Sgt. Slaughter just motioned that he's going to pick up Volkoff, slam him, and do a number on him!" The World Wrestling Federation truly is the recognized leader in Sports Entertainment. Lawful Metal
Just watched one of my favorite Lucha sprints in WCW: Bash at the Beach 97, Juvi, Liz mark Jr., and Hector Garza vs. Psychosis, LA Parka and Villano IV ( and later Villano V). Nonstop action, silliness and so many dives!
offspring515
The history or Raw roundtable sure makes JR come off like a huge racist. The casual "angry black man" reference to Ahmed Johnson was an eye opener. Michael Hayes may be the most attention starved human being alive. Like, shut the fuck up and let Mean Gene intro the show you insecure jackass. The Road Dogg and Pat Patterson were fairly enjoyable.

Interesting comment re Hayes -- I usually seem to think he's one of the quieter ones on those panels. (Not as quiet as Sarge, but still.) To me, it seems like it's Flair and Foley that won't shut up and let the others talk.
pipGofern
Working my way through 1991 WCW and two things: First, the Lethal Lottery idea was really cool. I'd love to see it revived even though Enemies Teaming isn't the big deal it used to be. Battlebowl, however, was yet another of those Russo-rific ridiculously convoluted ideas. I understand the Battlebowl bit was to give the makeshift teams a reason to work together but between the 3 ring World War and 2 rings for Wargames and now this, what was WCW's obsession with multi-ring gimmick matches? Secondly, Heel Luger went from Torture Rack to using the pile driver which JR informs us he calls "the Attitude Adjustment." WHAT?! Add name thief to John Cena's crimes. Luger, I gotta say, was REALLY GOOD during this Flair-less period. I couldn't believe how good he was as I only caught him when he was still green fresh up from Florida and then when he didn't give a shit during the NWO years, I never saw him during his peak. Say what you will about Lex but when the company decided to make him the centerpiece, he sure busted his ass to earn it. His electronica theme was pretty badass, too. I'm surprised somebody hasn't stolen, er, sampled it for a song.

Petey
Hayes is usually awful on the panels. Constantly interrupting and everything. I remember back in the CoD thread, the six of us that had the network would always complain about him never knowing when to not talk.
