2023 UPCOMING MOVIE DISCUSSION

Nyad

This is getting Oscar buzz - mostly for Annette Benning and Jodie Foster's performances (though the movie itself is a fringe Best Picture candidate)

It is directed by the folks who did Free Solo (Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin) making the narrative directorial debuts

Based on the true story of Diana Nyad

Guess it would be too on the nose to just call it The Bikers

Bet none of them will be wearing any swastikas or Death's Heads or SS insignias, either

Since it's based on The Outlaws, definitely no death's heads.

The Death's Head is the registered and trademarked symbol of The Hells Angels. The two clubs are also sworn enemies. When Don Fargo and Kenny Mack did the Chain Gang gimmick they wore vests with Hells Angels and death's head patches and they were ambushed at a bar by a group of bikers I've always wondered if it the Outlaws had involvement in the incident.

Well yeah, of course the HA Death's Head. I meant a Nazi Totenkopf.

EDIT: Apparently they use the SS bolts for murdering people, btw

EDIT II: And there was a book about the Outlaws titled The Bikeriders so this is a bit better of a title, in that case.

The Marsh King's Daughter is being delayed a month (From Oct 6 to Nov 3)

Why you might ask?

To avoid Taylor Swift

Quote

STX’s first movie under its Lionsgate pact, Neil Burger’s The Marsh King’s Daughter via Roadside Attractions will now go on Nov. 3 instead of Oct. 6.

Even though AMC’s Taylor Swift: Eras Concert opens on Oct. 13 and plays for four weekends, it’s clear Roadside doesn’t want to play this movie starring Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley into that storm.

Several films have cleared out of the way of the Taylor Swift Concert pic which has a shot at opening to $100M. Universal took Blumhouse/Morgan Creek’s The Exorcist: Believer earlier on Oct. 6 while other movies like the Meg Ryan return to rom com, What Happens Later, is going on Nov. 3, as well — the best by distributors is that the Swift storm will have calmed down by then.

My theory on Cage’s appearance in that is that he wanted to play it bald but he didn’t want anyone to think that’s what he looks like without his toupees, so he had the hairline made to look so absurd no one would believe it’s real.
