The whole promotion was awesome in retrospect. AAA had the flash in spades but CMLL really had the sizzle when you drilled down- they had a good 30-40 guys you could drop into a midcard trios TV match and no one would even blink. Not one thing wrong with a match where Astro Rey Jr (the future Mephisto) is the "worst" guy in the ring.

Mr. Nieblas and Shocker were two of my early fave luchadors. This is like looking at footage from the 1970s when you think how much lucha (and these workers) would change over the next couple of years. Just glacial changes - Pena, Konan, ECW were all factors - chingada, none of these guys look juiced out, even.

Like father, like son. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of original Dr. Wagner footage so we make do with what we have... and what we have here is pretty spiffy.

You wouldn't expect Porky and Universo 2000 to fit the "wrestling machine" bill in 1997 but they blind you with science here. MAIN EVENT WRESTLING, y'all.
