Casey Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 peak hip hop ^^ ----- in other news I got a bunch of new albums to listen to on my two days off in a few days. I'm kinda excited to check out the remaster of the 1998 Dynospectrum album - I only know of Slug from that group but Rhymesayers has a solid roster of talent so I'm sure I won't be disappointed. Other albums I've gotten ahold of lately are Zoomo's Dawn, Saba's Care For Me, Pink Siifu's ensley, Observe Since 98's Portrait Of A Savage and a handful of others.
Lamp, broken circa 1988 Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Honestly I've meant to get caught up on this year's stuff since I'm taking public transport more and definitely have the time on there to listen to albums, but instead I've just been listening to Hermit & The Recluse (Ka and Animoss) over and over and over. It's all hypermassive chord beats that Ka sails over. Here's (roughly) how the record opens. Can't recommend it enough. 1
Brian Fowler Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 And just in time for this thread, Kanye wants the 13th amendment abolished....
Casey Posted October 1, 2018 Author Posted October 1, 2018 This is about music. His political views and the stupid shit he says has no place in this thread. If we can't talk about politics elsewhere on this board, I don't see why this would be any different.
Lamp, broken circa 1988 Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 I've never got the sense if I'm the only person that cares about milo or not, but I just bought concert tickets for his probably last show out here under that name so in honor of that, have some extremely good milo songs Take Advantage Of The Naysayer Bookoo Bread Co. (live) folk-metaphysics 2nd ed ecclesiastes
Curt McGirt Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 New Atmosphere Been pretty static for me over the last couple years but my buddy always hips me to the new releases and I enjoy the videos.
Lamp, broken circa 1988 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Last year, I thought the new Shabazz Palaces records weren't for me. This summer, I shoved funk record after funk record into my face. I just went back to them this week, and yeah I was tripping last year. They're great. 1
Casey Posted October 11, 2018 Author Posted October 11, 2018 I've got the Quazarz albums on my harddrive but haven't listened to them yet. But I still pop in Black Up at least once a month. Their bandcamp page is really fairly priced, I've gotten a few bundles of their stuff. The Lese Majesty shirt is a favorite of mine.
J.T. Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 Some poor bastard with bills to pay gave up some crown jewels from his eclectic hip hop collection to Books A Million the other day. There is some DJ Shadow and DJ Krush in the crate and I think there is a copy of Blowout Comb by Digable Planets in there. His loss will be my gain if those shits are still in the stacks next payday when my OT loot kicks in. I AM BUYING THEM ALL~! 2
Lamp, broken circa 1988 Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 ok look i know that this is my second post about this record in this post, but I listened to it again on my bus ride home today and goddamn this is my favorite beat of the year. listen to this album.
Ryan Posted October 17, 2018 Posted October 17, 2018 This is a dude I know on a discord who makes tons and tons of beats. Take a listen if you want. He knows what he's doing. https://matthewfaulkner.bandcamp.com/ https://rennervich.bandcamp.com/ https://jurmainson.bandcamp.com/
Casey Posted November 3, 2018 Author Posted November 3, 2018 Action Bronson announced that he's leaving VICE. I'm also pretty deep into the new albums by Travis Scott, Takeoff, Quavo, Metro Boomin, Vince Staples and the aforementioned Action Bronson.
Lamp, broken circa 1988 Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 I've been listening to this EP a bunch and I'm super conflicted about it- it's like Extreme Craftsmanship, both on flows and beats, but there's some stuff content wise I don't agree with. That said, this song is a jam.
Casey Posted November 21, 2018 Author Posted November 21, 2018 Tekashi 6ix 9ine is facing 25 to life on RICO charges. Ebro has always been right about this kid, but it's still sad. Apparently the NYPD and the FBI tried to tell him that before the end of the year he'd be dead or in prison if he didn't turn things around, but he didn't want to believe them. Pusha T's Toronto concert got a lil' wild, with people throwing beer at him then rushing the stage and getting into a fight with his crew (Push had smartly ran off stage before they bumrushed the stage). Then this motherfucker came back out after all of that, and performed Infrared (and a few other songs). Wild. Aaaand to wrap this all up, Earl Sweatshirt has released two songs off his new album, "Some Rap Songs". He's giving me some serious MF DOOM vibes as of late.
Curt McGirt Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 RICO charges... the stupidity of committing mafia felonies when your face tats will drag you out of a crowd like a ringing bell is too goddamn funny. Supreme Clientele by Ghostface Killah has taken residence in my ride again. That is all.
J.T. Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 It has just dawned on me that Lemon has been on my Get Me Home driving music playlist for over a year. Everytime I watch the video, the song gets a new lease on life with me. I have always liked NERD and I could watch Mette Towley twerk all day.
Casey Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 I got Earl Sweatshirt's album last night. Goddamnit, between Travis Scott and this, it's making it super difficult for Courtney Barnett to maintain her #1 spot on my list for the year. UGHHHH. Oh and that Tekashi 6ix9ine album is STRAIGHT FUCKIN' TRASH.
Lamp, broken circa 1988 Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 My first impression of the Earl record is that it makes me extremely uncomfortable to think of all the people that are going to call it revolutionary and trailblazing like this isn't the path milo/scallops hotel has been journeying down for years. if you fuck with the Earl record, I beseech you, go listen to milo's output this year- sovereign nose of (y)our arrogant face, Nostrum Grocers, and budding ornothologists are tired of weary analogies. You'll like them.
Curt McGirt Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 This just popped up in my Youtube feed. Sick. And speaking of sick, somebody finally got me to listen to Del tha Funkee Homosapien and Dan the Automator:
Casey Posted December 11, 2018 Author Posted December 11, 2018 "Books of War" is more impressive when you realize it's a fan made edit. I'd like to have more than 3 tracks from DOOM IS FOR THE CHILDREN, but, alas..
Casey Posted February 3, 2019 Author Posted February 3, 2019 21 Savage was taken into custody by ICE today. Apparently he's actually British (?????) and has been in the US illegally since 2005.
Brian Fowler Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 Never Better, quite likely my favorite rap album ever, has a tenth anniversary triple LP out on vinyl I need desperately.
Casey Posted February 18, 2019 Author Posted February 18, 2019 Denzel Curry fuckin' killed a cover of Bulls On Parade by RATM. I think I might like it more than the original, honestly.
