That might make a difference. I've seen some discussion of it on reddit and nearly everyone says that engrams are pure RNG so it doesn't matter what activity they drop from but who knows.  Hopefully I get as lucky tonight.  I might try my hand at the raid to at least try to get some sort of rewards before reset.  Not getting my hopes up on completing it.  Most posts I see on lfg and reddit are asking for 295+ because apparently there's a section at the end where you have to get a certain amount of DPS in a specific time frame or the team wipes and unless everyone is up to par on light level it's really difficult.

I got a rare 300 level helmet from Court of Oryx today. That was pretty awesome.

Also finally hit Rank 5 with Eris, so I can finally just BUY all the runes I needed to finish the Court subquest, as opposed to hanging around the Court like a vagrant waiting for someone to pop their coin in the machine.

It can be really frustrating waiting around for other players to join you there, but when you actually do get a group of 4 or 5 in there together, it gets pretty fun, especially if they all have runes to spend. At that point, the machine kinda feeds itself with all the rune drops. SO MUCH GEAR in a short amount of time.

Had some good luck in strikes so far.  Did five strikes in a row (lvl 36) and got a ton of engrams.  Two legendary engrams and a ton of blues.  Went from 285 to 289.  More importantly I got a legendary artifact at 295 which was my weak area.  Also got a 297 blue fusion rifle that I used to infuse into my legendary shotgun.  Hopefully I get to over 290 by the end of the night.

Finished the Black Garden storyline with my new Hunter.  Getting a lot of use out of the new purple Stranger's Rifle while trying to level up Lord of Wolves but for now, Monte Carlo is my go to Primary at least until I get it to max stats..

 

Now, onto the Dark Below content.   Fist of Crota is once again snuffed now onto that damn Rasputin mission I hate.

 

Knocked out the PS Mars strikes we now have on Xbox and both were pretty fun. I have no idea why those strikes collect so much hate.  Both maps had plenty of cover and weren't that hard to survive. 

 

One bad thing I noticed is that despite all of the cover, you are fighting in close quarters (nearly in a phone booth in Undying Mind) and there isn't a lot of room to maneuver around, so I guess the hatred comes if you are playing that strike at a level equal to or under the enemies you are up against.

 

Was pissed that I was one triple GG major kill away from completing Cayde-7's Gunslinger challenge in the Undying Mind strike, but I was one major short because some asshole Titan kept murdering them with Hammer of Sol before my Super was up.  Fucker.  I will have to recruit a couple of friends to babysit me as I get those quests done the cheese way as both a Gunslinger and a Bladedancer.

See, I was literally just about to come over here and sing the praises of The Vanity as your go-to Fatebringer replacement, but then my game crashed to the dashboard tonight. First time that's ever happened to me.

I did some searching online, and apparently there's some kind of bug that sometimes caused the game to crash when Firefly triggers on this gun. That's when it hit me that I was using Vanity in the Shield Brothers boss fight when it happened.

So maybe avoid using the Vanity until they get that fixed, even though it's awesome. Sucks, because I spent 150 marks on it and infused it up to 296.

Are you checking the Postmaster or the Vanguard Quartermaster?

 

And maybe not.   My Vanguard Armory weapons have changed from the static Year One guns that are useless as soon as you hit 15 to a set of Hakke weapons that appear to be scaling up with my level.

 

If your SUROS weapons have the same, then maybe Bungie did the right thing and gave you DLC that will always be useful.

Bungie needs to allow you to load bounties onto your character from the app or through Bungie.net the same way you can access your Vault.

 

I totally forgot that Xbox peeps should have the three Rare jumpships now from the PS exclusive content.   Maybe I will go on a Relic Iron run on Mars to get mats for my Monte Carlo, work on some bounties, and hunt chests on patrol in the hope of getting those new ship blueprings?

I think they mentioned before that Trials was on hold and would eventually return with new Year Two gear. I think you can actually look at the new shaders and emblems in the kiosks.

Looks like it's the Super Shank for Nightfall this week. Along with Epic, Void Burn, Specialist, Trickle and whatever the hell Berserk is! Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the Super Shank does void damage... I'm hoping that whatever Berserk does, it's in our favour.

Going to try and get a couple hours on there tonight. Hit up the dailies and Nightfall on my warlock and then the weeklies on all 3 characters. Doing all that and I'll hit the marks cap again. I'll probably pick up a piece of store brought 280 gear for the Hunter and Titan. My guns and ghost are all pretty damn powerful now and can be transferred over, with a little extra gear they should both be around 275. Making the weeklies a lot easier.

It just occurred to me that the Sparrow and Jumpship upgrades you normally get during story mode did not show up for me. 

 

Not sure if that was a bug caused by already having those vehicles in my collection or because Bungie wants to create a Glimmer sink by making you buy ships and sparrows from Amanda.

 

The fifth chest you open on Earth still upgrades your Sparrow from White to Green, though.

I found I was consistently getting better gear up until maybe 280ish. Once I hit 290 the grind was on. I'll probably get something better now in every 20 or so items. And even then it might just be a pair of 291 gauntlets over my 290s.

Again, could just be a coincidence but it's fairly easy to get to 'end game' level (280+ for Nightfalls and the raid) then you have to work for it.

I guess that's the same as the previous expansion where you could go out and buy your way to level 32. Given enough marks, and a decent artefact, you can buy your way to 280 from the venders but have to grind in the wild to improve upon that.

I was thinking, with exotics dropping at a potential 310 once you hit 300 it's possible to hit near the 310 cap without ever stepping into the raid this time. Granted it would require a hell of a lot of luck. You'd have to score a perfect 300 piece of rare or legendary item for every slot. Then you would have to get 2 (3?) pieces of exotics for each slot to infuse. It would only be your class item, ghost and artefact holding you back. If every piece of gear is weighted the same you could hit 307 without having to fight Oryx.

Of course it would be a lot faster just to do the raid.

I've had basically the same experience.  I was steady climbing the ladder with almost every decryption and then you kind of hit a wall which is cool also because now when I do find something that's an upgrade it's pretty exciting.  I ended up with blue armor in every slot that was around 280-285 pretty easily.  That 285-288 level is hard to get over I'm finding now though.  I have at least gotten all legendary gear now and actually gotten a bunch of various legendary armor and weapons at this point that have been fairly useless but are free marks.  

 

I leveled up my FWC last night and in the package got a 300 fusion rifle.  I was using a legendary shotgun at the time that was 295 and my light level was 289 so I was super excited to find the 300 gun.  When I equipped it my light level was...289 with a tiny sliver left to hit 290.  

 

Also had a great crucible run.  When I got on I did the daily crucible match (Rumble) with a buddy who was on and I won that thing in a walk.  I didn't even use my primary weapon once.  Just shotgun all day.  Shotgun, super, then I grabbed a heavy crate and got a kill with every round of heavy and then back to super again.  Right around a 3.0 k/d.  Went back later with two other friends who needed to do it and it was the same thing.  This one was a little closer and I had around 2.5 k/d.  Convinced my buddies a little later to do a crucible match with me (Clash) because I was just a couple hundred points from leveling my crucible rep and I wanted to knock out some bounties.  We were a fireteam of 4 and had more than double the score of the other team.  I killed the entire fireteam on one instance with two hammer throws from my super.  I ended the game with a 1.9 k/d on that one and was the top scorer but another buddy of mine had a 2.2 k/d.  I guess most people are not playing crucible right now which is why it was populated with so many scrubs.  I have games like that a lot on clash but rumble was really surprising because I never play rumble and the few times I have it's been at least a couple people in every match who are ridiculous.  

 

Took off of work today.  I may or may not be playing a destiny marathon.

I generally tend to see folks spamming the Daily Match Type and that's it.

 

I am still stuck on the Quest Step that requires winning Daily Match Types - since I have yet to win a Rumble match (I always finish in 2nd now) and Rift can kiss my ass

I have absolutely no clue what I am doing in Rift, and it's a shame because it seems like a fun mode.

 

It seems like you need a good part/fireteam with some decent coordination to be succesful in it, which makes noone using their mics online PS4-wise that much worse.

I leveled up my FWC last night and in the package got a 300 fusion rifle. I was using a legendary shotgun at the time that was 295 and my light level was 289 so I was super excited to find the 300 gun. When I equipped it my light level was...289 with a tiny sliver left to hit 290.

Those 300 drops are damn satisfying!

I need to start hitting the Court of Oryx at some point. People are reporting some high level drops from it. I did a few the other day when I stumbled upon some guys already there but didn't get a huge amount out of it. I've got a bunch of runes burning a hole in my pocket now though...

That probably has something to do with it.  In that one clash match I played I got four bounties done. 

 

Did the nightfall this morning and got 11 strange coins.  Got a bunch of engrams also but none really helped me.  The nightfall was not too bad at all.  The boss fight was probably the easiest part.  The fight started and we all promptly died.  Second go we killed the shank in about thirty seconds.  I got a 300 void fusion rifle yesterday so that came in handy with the void burn on the nightfall.  

 

Doing the nightfall completed a quest for me and my reward was a choice between a 300 arc shotgun or a 300 solar fusion rifle so I naturally chose the shotgun.  It had decent range already but it also had the rangefinder perk and holds six rounds.  Gonna be a good crucible gun when Iron banana comes back.  

 

Did one heroic strike after that and got two legendary engram drops from the boss fight and a bunch of blues throughout.  One of them didn't help me but all of the blue ones helped.  Got my ghost infused up to 284 and I got a 291 legendary helmet that I infused into my class specific legendary helmet I got from the nightfall a couple days ago.  Also got a higher blue chest piece and some higher boots.  Went from 289 to 291 in that one strike.  Also, the helmet I had was 285 and the new one from the engram drop was 291.  The infusion gave the full 291 to my old helmet.  So there's some science.

Court of Oryx is fun because it's like one of those fun "big event" type things in the game that you can randomly join and not have to worry about having a fireteam or matchmaking or anything like that.

 

I also realized that most folks probably have Quests that require a fair good amount of strikes - so most folks are probably spamming strikes right now.

 

I realized this as I looked at my own stuff and have to complete at least 9 strikes over the course of like the 8 quest steps i have available to me. (And only one looks like I can double dip)

Fun fact: You can charge multiple Stolen Runes at the same time. Buy however many you need from Eris, run 3 reciprocal rune events, and you're done. Makes getting to the Antiquated Rune a lot quicker.

Also, apparently there's a weekly reset on the Antiquated Rune boss. Last week, it was an ogre and a wizard. This week, it's a Mini-Crota fight. Wish I had known that before I blew my second AR last night.

I took a look online to see what the tier 3 Court was this week and they weren't kidding about them having raid mechanics!

Thalnok, Fanatic of Crota.

From the looks of it, it's basically the Crota fight in the confined space of the Court of Oryx, complete with swordbearer and dropping his shield to get him to kneel.

I'm hoping he doesn't have an Oversoul at least. I can't imagine a light 300 Crota like boss against a group of randoms going to well!

I don't have a tier 3 rune yet so I may not get to fight him this week.

Played the raid a bit ago.  Joined a group that was playing blind.  None of us had played it yet and none had looked up any info on it.  It was pretty amazing playing it for the first time.  Very VoG-like in that regard.  Really cool mechanics and we eventually figured them out.  Took us a while but we finally defeated the first boss.  I had to get off though so there's plenty more I didn't get to.  I got some moldering shards and the raid ghost.  It's at 306 light which is awesome.  Also got a quest item.  Was slightly disappointed I didn't get a weapon from the first boss but it was still awesome and there's still plenty of raid left for me to play.  

 

You get a ton of engrams in there by the way.  By a ton I mean a metric shit ton.  Worked my way up to 293 now and also finally got a decent legendary rocket launcher so I can quit using this blue one when I'm not using sword.
