Oh that reminds me, Miami gave Trey Mancini an NRI for camp at the minor league vet minimum.

His old contract will still be paid by Cincy if he gets a roster spot (which is expected).

This one amused me

Adam Ottavino turned down a $6.75 million player option with the Mets to become a FA

He just signed a one year, $4.5 million deal with.... the Mets

Now amusement aside - Ottavino said that the player option deal he declined deferred $4 million of the $6.75 million so this deal - while less total money - is more money upfront.

Seems like a good haul for a 30yo who hasn't had a full season in a few years.

David Rubenstein (one of the two folks buying the Os) literally just resigned as Chairman of the Kennedy Center yesterday so that explains that

Apparently Cal Ripken Jr is one of the new owners of O's, so he maintains godhood in Maryland.

Also...  I have no idea if this stat is real, but it's just amazing to see this Naked Gun blooper reel-level series of swings.

Also part of the ownership group at Grant Hill and Michael Bloomberg?!?!?!?!?!

John Angelos will be a minority owner still and act an "senior advisor to Rubenstein"

Rubenstein - being a Baltimore native - will keep the team in the city plus he couldn't take it anyway immediately anyway since the new 30 year lease the team just signed with the city transfers to him.

All this is pending approval of the MLB owners which is expected next week

Royals and Bobby Witt Jr agreed to an extension

11 years, $288.7 million

There is a 3 year option that can bring it all the way up to $377.7 million

Either way it is the largest contract in franchise history

EDIT - The deal also has opt outs every year starting with the 7th year

So about that A's move to Las Vegas:

Las Vegas mayor says Athletics should pitch new plan to Bay Area

Quote

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman isn't exactly extending a warm embrace to the Oakland Athletics, who plan to build a $1.5 billion stadium in her city.

In fact, Goodman said the team's stadium plan "does not make sense" and that A's ownership should go back to the drawing board and pitch a new plan in the Bay Area.

"I personally think [the A's have] got to figure out a way to stay in Oakland to make their dream come true," Goodman told the Front Office Sports Today podcast, which was released Tuesday.

Goodman took to social media later Tuesday to add context to her comments and said she was "excited about the prospect of Major League Baseball" in her city, though she didn't back off her statement that Oakland and the A's should try to make their relationship work in a "perfect world."

She added: "Should that fail, Las Vegas has shown that it is a spectacular market for major league sports franchises."

I, for one, can't wait for the entire hour they spend on Kenley Jansen and Connor Wong trying Skyline Chili for the first time.

You mean after the Red Sox trade them? Or at least Jansen, who is on the trading block.
