Starfield Omnibus Thread

I chatted up Lin and we got to the subject of her late husband and then the room started to get dusty.   As much as I wanted to learn more about Lin, asking probing questions about her past made me feel like a complete shitbag.

Am I the only person that never remembers he has powers? I swear I've used them maybe twice in the last 20 hours of gameplay. I even have one I kinda like and would be useful, my brain just never thinks about it. Its like I am in FPS mode and can only focus on shooting people, not using magic.

It also feels a little forced into the game, at least at the point I am at in the main story. I'm not mad about it, it just feels like something tacked on that my character didn't need to be a badass.

I am easily distracted and answered Lopez's distress signal rather than ignore it and investigate Piazzi I to see if Andreja was there.  During the side gig, it was nice to see that my refitted Frontier was able to solo three Class A spacer ships even if it took a bit of a beating.

This is the one outstanding space battle I have - there is no way my Frontier can take on three ships.

I probably need the Mantis for it

I used SGT Sylver's build from this tutorial:

There were some tense moments, but I was able to tank three ships at at time with my modded Frontier.

Just remember your dogfighting tricks and disengage via boosts and perform combat repairs if your shield gets too hammered.  Don't wait until your hull is beat all to fuck before you get your peeps to patch the holes in your ship.

Click the Right Thumbstick on the XBox controller to start repairs and doing so will consume Ship Parts..

One of the benefits of the modifications is improving storage space for stuff like more of the aforementioned Ship Parts.  Also, if you take Sylver's advice and go with an Engineering Bay so that you get +1 Crew, you can always rolll with Sara and Vasco who are particularly helpful crew members for this build.

All of Vasco's skills should bump up the overall performance of the modded Frontier including the EB Weapon systems you installed, and Sara's Astrodynamics skill should lower your grav drive fuel consumption.

Assign the weapons to WB so that all you have to do is use RT to fire your guns.  You will only have electron beam cannons, so it will be simple to just maneuver and attack.  You only have one weapon system to manage instead of three or four.

In the video, he goes with a 20S shield for economy, but I upgraded to the 30S to satisfy my paranoia.

It's a pretty easy build and you will gain some experience using the Ship Builder.  I think I sunk about 30K creds total and the mods have paid for themselves ever since.

One caveat.   He is on PC and I am old and dumb so it too me forever to figure out that in order to raise or lower ship mods in order to mount them vertically, you have to use the directional pad on the XBox controller.  I must've spent an hour trying to mount the shield projector on the upper aft section latch point on the top of the grav reactor.

I suppose I should also mention that you have to be at least L1 Pilot in order to unlock some of the mods you need to buy for this build, but I think we've all been playing for a while and most likely all of the characters we've created have at least one skill point invested in Piloting.

I need to get better about checking the Constellation bounty board before heading out.  I am sure I will see a mission that will require me to go and survey something I have already surveyed and that will make me angry.

I got a distress call from Altair II and ended up rescuing some Rangers and some UC marines, including a legendary Captain. Finally getting okay at combat. Leveled up during the fight so raised my shotgun skill to level 2. Love using the law giver and the coachman, have blue/purple versions of each.

Yup - I did that one and loved it but acquired it via different means (I had a random cargo ship hail me and tell me they heard the distress call)

Well fuck.  I was one planetary trait away from completing the survey of Piazzi II, but I got frostbite and was out of antibiotics.

Went back to Jemison for med supplies.

Got back, got scans of the final trait and the Piazza II survey data is worth 24K.

That should pay for a couple of engine upgrades.

I paid a little more attention to the stats and while I don't get more maneuverability from engine upgrades, I do get an increase in top speed and hull strength as well as repair speed for the engines (God forbid) if they are damaged in combat.

I think I have the best possible weapon and shield config for the ship, so I will spend some creds to squeeze a little more effectiveness by upgrading my engines, grav drive, and reactor.

I'll probably gain a little more mass, but that's okay since the engine improvements will compensate for it.

I warped into the system and heard the distress call from the Private locked in the supply closet.

i got some good items including a purple backpack but man, does Sarah nag you about being overencombered. She again asked to yptslk in the middle of combat, this time about her having to abandon a ship in a dogfight and some of the crew left behind. And when I tried to flirt, she again said she wasn’t ready for a relationship.

Well it looks like PS Pony and all around dunce, King Thrash, was wrong.

You can indeed scan gas giants and automatically gain survey data that you can sell, so technically they are "explorable" in that you can chart their location and get credit for the discovery..

You just can't land on the fucking things for reasons you should have learned about in fifth grade science class.

In short, the reason he made the comments he's currently being burned alive for is because he's never played the fucking game like he claimed he did.

I know because I'm currently making the rounds through the Piazzi system and scanned Piazzi VII.  I'll hit up the moons maybe after dinner and move on to the last two planets.  It will be the first star system that I will have 100% surveyed.

I actually enjoy surveying planets.  It's very cathartic.  There is some occasional light combat, but nothing stressful that generates a sense of urgency like a story mission.  The only thing to be concerned about is having a decent supply of med items in case you are surveying a planet or a moon with extreme conditions and you come down with a status ailment after being exposed to the elements for too long.

Tried finishing the Groundpounder story (that’s the one Phil and I were discussing) but my ship isn’t good enough to do the dogfights yet so instead I went to New Atlantis, dropped off some resources, finished the tree storyline and did some stuff in the Well for the first time. I also did ho to the ship depot and upgrade all my weapons and shields.

Yeah, we won't be completing a survey Piazzi IV-C until we get a better boost pack and are a few levels higher.

There are like fucking gigantic plant dinosaurs there and a bunch of gas bag critters floating in the air hundreds of feet above me.   Some of the bio-dinos are as high as Level 25 and they move in herds.  Now I see the wisdom of burning a skill point to extend scanner range or building an outpost with scanner boost capability.

Yes, I know you get credit for fauna data by killing critters instead of scanning them, so it had occurred to me to shoot the damn gasbag things out of the air.  However, I don't want to run the risk of the goddamn photosynthesis powered brontosaurus things to stampede and beat the shit out of me.

They have clubs on the end of their tails for fuck's sake.  As big around as Vasco on some of the larger ones..

The moon is very mineral diverse, comfortable gravity clocking in at about half a G, and has a breathable atmo so it might make a good candidate for an outpost, but it is cold AF and has a weak magnetosphere.  I don't want Lin and Heller to die of cancer because nothing is keeping the radiation from the star in this system from cooking them alive.  I also don't want the fucking green plant dinos to wreck my outpost.

There is a fracking station and an abandoned Ecliptic base on the planet, so at least two groups have considered setting up shop here.

Maybe I'll build an outpost here as well, but in a different biome.  Curse you, Bethesda, and your awesome spirit of exploration that diverts you from the main story mission for days and days and days.

So my Akilia City is broken (and this is a known bug)

There are a random dead NPCs in a bar and a dead security guard out in the street. Not to mention there is now a security guard walking around in just her underwear

Really hope I didn't need that NPC for anything

Drop a point or two in Scanning

It let’s you scan from further away

The other option is invest in Zoology

Or build an Outpost with a Scan Booster, which is what I am considering doing given the wealth of minerals located there.

Yep.  I had to reload a save because I did a mission on one of Piazzi's moons where I installed some survey equipment for a Ryujin science team.

I plunked down the sensors and when I returned, my POC was dead because he decided to walk around outside with no spacesuit.

And for all of you Cerberus from Mass Effect types out there, there is a hand cannon pellet thrower called the Shotty that is analogous to the M-358 Talon.  It is a pretty fun weapon if you like your combat close up.  I recommend fletchette rounds or EM Shot.

Well, then.   No amount of dogfighting expertise is going to get my upgraded Frontier past this Class-M monstrosity the Spacers are traveling around in.  The Spacer Scavenger Blattodea is a fucking monster and it has support ships to help it.  I will probably need to fully upgrade the Razorleaf or invest in a nicely buffed Class-C to compete with it.

Probably wouldn't hurt to have a Shield Specialist in the crew of the ship I use to blow that goddamn thing into glowing splinters.

I really would appreciate a patch for starship inventory.  I have had to sell all of the duped items in the Cargo Hold from the Frontier every time I made modifications or upgrades to the Frontier.

And a tweak to object manipulation would also be great.  You can move and manipulate all objects in the game EXCEPT for clothing.  If there is an item of clothing on the ground and you hold the A button (conroller) or use the corresponding key for PC, you won't pick up the item of clothing; you will equip it.  I kept trying to move the Broken Constellation Helmet back on its shelf and wound up putting it on instead.

Emma Wilcox always looks like she's about to fall asleep whenever I talk to her.  If I had a daughter like Annie, I'd be tired too.

If you have the Wanted trait, you can mess with Annie when she tries to get you to help her catch the gun thief.  You'll say something like, "It's okay.  I'm used to having people follow me," and she'll be like "WHAT'S THAT S'POSED TA MEAN~!  YOU DON'T WANNA BE ON 'THE LIST,' BUDDY~! "

And if you ask her "What list?" it gets even better.
