FALLOUT 4

RIPPA

The opening quest is fighting your usual raiders. If they are suggesting higher levels I assume its because the very large building space plays out a bit like a massive dungeon before you can completely acquire it. There aren't new enemies, but some of the enemies are the types who level with you (Charred and glowing bloated ferals for example).

I played around with it for 4 hours or so last night. It is both cool and annoying as the building can be pretty damn complex compared to the other workshop structures. One thing I should mention is that you have use doorways to attach different vault areas. We do have vault suits and pipboys to give to settlers and companions. Be warned though that they can't be removed from companions based off of what I've heard. They disappear like equipped armor.

Not much new fighting. Same stuff as usual. Lots to build if you're into that kind of thing. There's a nuclear reactor to build that gives you 500 units of power. I'm interested to see what the Bob the Builder types do with this update. Me? Don't care.

Yeah I'm going to wait until I see some videos of what people are doing before I tackle any building in the vault. Although, I might go ahead and do the quest tonight or tomorrow just so I can get access to the clean beds and furniture for my other settlements.

Haven't finished the quest line yet, but I did finish exploring the build area. First off that shit is utterly massive. It is by far the largest building area in the game. You could easily make 2-3 vaults or 4-5 decent sized settlements within the damn thing. Second, I can definitely see why Bethesda suggested a higher level even though the DLC starts at 20. Bring an explosive/crowd control weapon. There are a couple other entrances to the vault. One is a new mark on the map. The other takes you to a certain triad of suiciders (you should know the place by now). So be careful when exploring. For building purposes you will definitely need to use the weapon storage trick to bring the size count down. It builds up easily and doesn't go down much scrapping. You also might want radiation protection if you're not terribly high on it or have a decent bit of radaway/rad-x. There is plenty of nuclear material to be scrapped.

So far I like the DLC. The settlement size of the area is great and can really move the imagination. That said, I don't expect to see anything too great/crazy from the bigger settlement players for a good month or so. When they do start putting stuff out though its probably going to be a bit insane even compared to stuff like the pyramids or cities some have designed. This may actually keep me a decent bit distracted until Nuka World arrives.

I got into it a little bit myself last night. I'm going to hold off on building anything before I see what other people are doing on youtube. I've heard that it takes some fiddling around with things to get stuff to snap correctly. I don't want to build some crappy structure and then have to go back and scrap everything later.

Also, here's my Boston Airport settlement. I used some of the stuff from the new DLC like the weight bench and pommel horse. Who knew that Cait was such a good gymnast? Also loving the clean furniture.

The pommel horse was cracking me up.

Same here. Wasn't expecting her to interact with it at all. She also started using the weight bench right after I stopped recording the video. Was hilarious to see her do it in the armored dress I put her in.

I also finally got the "Benevolent Leader" trophy for 100% happiness using Boston Airport. I had 3 dogs, a cat and a gorilla there and just hung around for a while manufacturing Guass Rifles and ammo and messing around with that shooting range. I put the pommel horse and weight bench there (apparently they increase happiness) and fast traveled away to mess around at another settlement and got the pop-up notification.

I had to use the settlement size glitch a bunch of times. It fills up fast when you're building there. One thing I that helped it go fast was using the Gatling Lasers/Gauss Rifles I was manufacturing. I'd load up about 20 of them, put them in the workbench, take them out and store them in workshop mode. Would only take me doing that once or sometimes twice to knock the size meter down from full to completely empty.

Not sure I can pick a favorite son. I know a couple of Magnolia's and Butcher Pete would probably be up there.

Finished the quest line for Vault-Tec. It was pretty fun despite being workshop focused. I like getting a perspective from a non-insane Vault-tec scientist/overseer in Barstow. Clem is a precious gem among settlers, of which the vault based ones are so much damn nicer. The experiments were simple, but I liked the options for them though I wish we could change parameters after setting them.

I made another gun factory in Sanctuary. I set everything up and was playing the game late at night on Saturday after a day of drinking. I saved my game but forgot to quit before I went to bed. Fell asleep with the heavy weapon forge still running, woke up 2 hours later to go to the bathroom and saw that I had like 200 miniguns on the floor of the factory b/c they don't fit in the conveyor storage thing for some reason. They get stuck at the entrance to the storage so they just pile up on the conveyor belt and fall off.

The newest patch will add new vendor setups so we can finally use something a little different from the usual trading stalls. The vendors will also offer larger shipments of wood, steel, ceramic, copper, & rubber. The Longs will be killable after Sanctuary. Its only in steam beta now, but I'm definitely looking forward to when it hits the consoles. Now if only they would add back in the new crops they apparently removed from the Vault-Tec DLC.

Nice. Have any of you guys built a Vault yet? I want to jump into it but it's a little daunting.

I started building the first night. Its not done yet, but so far I have set up the overseer's office, two larger quarters, a restaurant, a small clinic, a weight/entertainment room, & a storage room that doubles as a second security room. Oh I also have a room for another incredibly unnecessary generator because why not. It can be a bit much figuring out where and how everything fits together, but its fun once you have some idea of what you're doing. I do think I'm likely to redo several rooms though at this point. I think i want my clinic to be slightly larger and placed elsewhere. I also might cut down the size of the overseer's office as I made it a tad large. I also need to set up food at some point. I really hoping to use the planters, but with them being removed before release I have to decide if I would rather use garden plots or set up an underground greenhouse which doesn't sound like a bad idea. I'm also likely to wait for the newest patch to hit consoles before I make any more stores.

I went to build a small "vault" (really, just an atrium) at Boston Airport and ran into the settlement size limit before I even finished the enclosure.  Ugh.  I want to build a casino!

Yeah I had to use the size glitch quite a few times just to build the structures in that video I posted. The frame rate is ok when I'm just in there messing around on the shooting range or manufacturing guns and ammo but it slows down considerably whenever I release captured enemies in "The Terrordome". One thing I've found that eats up a shit ton of the size limit is the neon lights. Not that they're big size wise but I'd imagine they eat up more memory than concrete blocks and weapons racks.

I got around to the Vault last night. Built it up a bit. Took me a while to get the hang of snapping everything together but it's pretty easy once you get it down. I do love that you can just slap down a giant nuclear reactor just have it touching your Vault and you have 500 power for the entire thing. Also like that you can just slap those conduit things on walls and you're good to go as far as lighting or anything that doesn't need to be directly connected. Cuts down on having wires hanging everywhere.

Also, how did you do the experiments? I took the benign route with all of them. Couldn't bring myself to fuck with Clem. For someone who hates most actual people, I'm the nicest guy in the world when it comes to NPCs in video games. I don't think I've ever gone the "evil" route in any games like Fallout or Skyrim I've played. I've done the evil thing a few times just to see how certain endings playout but my main character is always a good guy.
