but does not really care too much about a woman who is over a hundred years old and hasn't aged a bit and is a much more skilled fighter than either Batman or Superman.

He doesn't see what she's capable of until the end when she SAVES him. There's a big difference between that and Superman who he thought was at least partially responsible for the deaths in Metropolis.

I thought the common denominator is that Michael Bay and Zach Snyder both manage to make big budget blockbusters that make craploads of money (thus insuring them further work) without quite being loved by most moviegoers.

I think Watchmen, 300 and Dawn of the Dead did okay with critics. Man of Steel was certainly mixed. This was decidedly negative. Batman v Superman will be the first time that audiences had a mixed reaction. The others audiences mostly enjoyed.  Man of Steel had an A- on Cinemascore.  I can't remember the last time anyone liked a Transformers movie. I'm not sure how they still make a fuck ton because even audience reception has been poor for a while.  Maybe there's enough kids to make it work. And China.

That said, I love Michael Bay's early work.  The Rock, Bad Boys, Bad Boys II.  I kind of like Armageddon but I think most hate it.

I am loathe to put stock in anything Forbes.com has to say, but apparently #BvS had the largest Friday to Sunday drop ever. Handily beating out last year's FF reboot with a staggering 55% drop compared to FF's 48%

It was Easter Sunday but I agree this will drop dramatically in the states.

From the article, just for discussion:

You might be thinking that Sunday was the Easter holiday, which could account for the big Sunday drop. But that still wouldn’t explain the Friday-to-Saturday decline of 38%, which was the second worst opening Friday-to-Saturday drop  in the annals of superhero releases, after a 40% dip forThe Dark Knight Rises.

Also from the article, it apparently took a similarly huge Friday to Sunday drop in China... Which would in some ways be worse news. If it drops big worldwide, that's a problem.

For the record, here's Zack Snyder's Rottentomato scores:

Dawn of the Dead: 75

300: 60

Watchmen: 65

Legend of the Guardians: 50

Sucker Punch: 23

Man of Steel: 56

Batman vs Superman: 29

Foreign sales are actually the main profit driver.  Age of Extinction made barely 20% of its overall more-than-a-$billion in American theaters.

That trailer played before the movie in my theater, minus the intro. "I've aged phenomenally well" might actually have gotten the best reaction of anything in my theater the whole time

Yeah I don't think I've ever even seen so much as a trailer for this. Never heard of it.

Practically nobody heard of it.  Despite being an animated kids' movie that was released in over 3,500 theaters.  It barely scraped together a little over 50 mil domestically.

I forgot about Sucker Punch.  I knew that existed but I've never seen it.

Don't bother.  It's almost like a parody of all of Snyder's worst tendencies.  It's like a version of Tank Girl which is played completely serious without a hint of humor or levity. I've rarely seen a better cast of great actors give such top-to-bottom miserable performances.  About half of the movie looks like a series of endless cutscenes from a video game.  It's also the kind of movie that features a bunch of strippers as the main characters... who never actually get naked.  It pretends to be all about female empowerment, while dressing all the characters as sexy cosplayers and having all the women be a bunch of rape victims who are nothing but pawns for their male oppressors.

Boy, this sounds familiar

Admittedly, it's one thing to be grim and gritty in a Batman movie; it's quite another to be grim and gritty in a movie about a bunch of teenage superheroes who are all dressed as porno schoolgirls, who have epic CGI fight scenes against a bunch of giant robots (in dream sequences that are Incepted inside another dream sequence).  He's taking the basic concept of Sailor Moon and directing it as if it were The Matrix, and doing a shitty job on both counts.

Wow, that first hour fuckin' sucked. This was basically The Dark Knight Returns for The Death of Superman, with some elements flipped on their head or outright reversed. I liked the Doomsday fight, but.. I don't know, nothing else really seemed all that... good?

It's got me interested in a Cyborg and Wonder Woman movie, though. I don't know about that dream sequence with Parademons and the Flash. That combined with the Mother Box.... Fourth World?
