  1. This has now happened in at least 20 Tim Horton's across the country.
  2. I happened to be reading this too. About halfway through, I put it down for a bit and haven't had the urge to pick it up again weeks later. I guess I'm obligated to finish it though seeing as it was a Father's Day gift I asked for after it catching my eye in Chapters. Even though you pointed out that Allan and Gump are polar opposites in terms of the consequences of their actions, the similarity was a bit too much for me. They both breeze through life carefree and while Gump is too dumb to know the politics of the situations he's in, conveniently Allan outright doesn't care, meaning both just go along in a dopey fashion with whatever is suggested to them. The only moral decision he makes (at least in the first half of the book) is to save the Chinese woman from being gang raped. The present day stuff is a little more interesting, though as you said the characters are fairly simplistic. And it did that thing (I want to say it was in Amelie), where everyone is given a quirky little backstory. Otherwise, it's a nice, lightweight holiday read, though you shouldn't necessarily go out of your way to pick it up.
  3. I vaguely remember that, what was on the other side? Agent Scully? Great image though, I think I've seen a figurine based on that. It was either Scully or Venus Blue Genes. All 3 got airings on the wall.
  4. Not my good news, but there is a nice pay-it-forward style story happening in Canada this week. On Tuesday, a man walked into a Tim Horton's in Edmonton and paid for $500 worth of coffee for whoever came in. Then in Calgary yesterday, the same thing happened. It happened again today in Ottawa, Red Deer and twice in Edmonton. On one of the occasions in Edmonton, a woman bought $1300 worth of coffee. Awesome story, though the more cynical of the population are theorizing that it must be part of some kind of publicity stunt by a radio station or something. Tim Horton's have said they know nothing about it.
  5. Finally a chance to pimp my favourite photo website. Shorpy.com is amazing for historical American photos. Particularly some of the cityscape photos and Civil War photos. EDIT: Can't hotlink them unfortunately. Anyway, go to www.shorpy.com
  6. I had this as a poster on my wall in my teenage years...
  7. Give her a haircut and a fake moustache and Jessica Pare would be perfect.
  8. To be fair, one is destined to be a Head of State. The other is destined to be heading for the state of Washington.
  9. Three episodes in, and I'm also on board with Orange... though I'm not too fond of the giving everyone a backstory thing so far. I guess they have to fill time somehow, but I think I would've preferred not knowing anything about any of the other inmates, besides what happens in the prison.
  10. This is from that period when WWE was really serious about getting their talent off the juice.
  11. I can't stop laughing at this post. Partly because I don't know whether the gimmick is that Tugboat was too fat for his car, or that he thought of himself as too big a star to open his own car door and required a valet. And partly because looking at that photo, I just realized that Tugboat is Phil Margera, and I'm picturing Bam beating the shit out of him while he takes a dump.
  12. Is that Big Andy from Tough Enough working security (or whatever he's doing over there)?
  13. I've always wondered about athletic commissions. What exactly is their role nowadays related to wrestling? What kind of paperwork does a promotion/wrestler need? It's always struck me as weird that the athletic commission gets involved in what is essentially a piece of theatre rather than a sporting event.
  14. I've been watching a mixed bunch of shit lately. For some of them, I've literally just closed my eyes and scrolled through Netflix and watched whatever I've landed on. Hall Pass Strange mix of some genuine emotional romantic comedy type stuff with dick jokes (and actual dicks in those jokes) and diarrhea. Then I noticed at the end that it was directed by the Farrelly Brothers. That explains that, I guess. That woman from The Office is cute. Attack The Block Been wanting to watch this for a long time, but never got around to it. Directed by Joe Cornish, of Adam & Joe, and yet I was let down a bit by it. I guess I was expecting more comedy, or better comedy. Takers Perfectly fine heist movie, that seems to have a bad rep on IMDB regarding bad acting. To be honest, I had no issues, only noting that T.I.'s delivery was forced. It wasn't until I saw the credits that I realized that douchebag Chris Brown was in it. Had I known that I may have felt differently while watching it. Harsh Times Christian Bale plays a returned Army Ranger who has some mental issues, to put it mildly. He is scary as hell in this, and I just happened to hear his Terminator audio meltdown again this week, and it leaves me thinking that this film may be him just dialed up a little bit. Worth watching. 30 Minutes or Less I remember liking the trailers for this movie, then hearing some "not that good" reviews, but I thought it was pretty funny. I think this was my first proper introduction to Aziz Ansari. Guy's hilarious. Still can't stand Danny McBride though. The Forgotten One of those movies where the premise is so intriguing, that they should just leave it at that. A woman has memories of a son that everyone else tells her never existed. See, that's interesting. The actual unraveling of the mystery is rubbish though. Characters here see some wild shit, and then just plod along to the next scene without raising an eyebrow. Hanna I wanted to love this, and it was going well for a while, but it all took a dive with the introduction of the British family, some coming of age travelogue stuff and a gay bounty hunter. Chemical Brothers soundtrack is awesome though. Piranha 3DD Jesus Christ, why did I even bother? Even the nudity isn't that interesting. Just awful, awful shite. It's got 3.9 on IMDB, and honestly that's too high. I gave it a 2 there. So on that note, I think I need to go back to watching some high brow film to wash the taste out of my mouth.
  15. This August... Witness the feel-good romantic comedy of the year. One woman. Five potential suitors. Which one holds the key to unlock the secrets of her heart? Mickie must make the toughest decision of her life. Big Time Wrestling In Theaters August 11th
  16. Podcasts currently on my iPod... 99% Invisible - Short (20mins-ish), fairly interesting pieces about architecture and design. Only started listening recently. It's kinda hipstery. A Way With Words - Two lexicographers answer questions regarding etymology of words and phrases. Informative and fun. The Adam & Joe show - It's not really on anymore now that Joe Cornish is off making movies (there was a brief Adam & Edith period, but it's not as funny) Anyway, there's a backlog of shows from BBC and XFM, that have literally made me look like an hysterical idiot on the train. The CHUD show - 3 guys (usually) shoot the shit about movies. I love it for the obscure movie references, and the occasional funny pun. Also a ton of bad puns. Be warned though that if you're offended easily, it's not for you. They can be very misogynistic and full of offensive jokes. Filmspotting - Haven't listened in a long time because I haven't been watching a ton of films lately either. But I'd highly recommend this for some smart film discussion. Tobolowsky Files - An oldie and I believe it's finished. A genuinely moving collection of short stories told by actor Stephen Tobolowsky based on moments in his life. Great Lives - British personalities discuss the lives of famous people they've admired. Also just recently got started on Kevin Pollak's show, How Did This Get Made?, Comedy Bang Bang and Steve Austin's show.
  17. Watching some Ladder matches on Netflix. Rob Van Dam's bacne is hideous in HD.
  18. Coincidentally started listening to this today. Never thought I would ever hear Austin being a huckster.
  19. I spent a day on youtube the other week looking at videos of guys showing off their huge (10,000+) vinyl collections. Cool stuff. That led me to CD Collection videos. A few guys aged 35+ had some significant collections, but I'm baffled by all the teens/early 20s showing off their collections. One guy had about 80 CDs with comments such as "Absolutely EPIC collection!" I'd imagine the majority of posters in this forum have (or have had) at least 3 times that. There were a couple of people (1 girl, 1 gay dude) showing off their "collection" of about 10-15 Britney/Gaga/Rihanna CDs. I'm not sure what to make of it... On the one hand, I guess it's kinda cool that some people still appreciate the physical media. On the other hand, it's really bizarre to still be buying something that young kids almost consider to be antique. I also happened to read an article today about the possible resurgence of cassettes with a Cassette Store Day scheduled for next year.
  20. Ugh, hate the splintered wrestling discussion.
  21. On a board I frequented back in the day, a $5 donor would receive this privilege. Just in case the admins are looking for a way to raise cash/thank people who donate.
  22. Just had a look on my Cable Guide. It's $45!? I'm tempted, because I'm bored right now, but I don't know if I'm tempted that much (I haven't watched any wrestling since Mania) Also, how come it's on an hour later than usual? EDIT: My cable company has it listed in an hour's time. Not sure I'm going to order it if they can't even get the listing right.
