Doragon Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 Jun said goodbye to AJP, he is now freelance. He has no ill feelings towards AJPW. 1 1
dorfus malorfus Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 Just watched the AJPW Jr title match from 1/21. My takeaway from the match was that Fuminori Abe is awesome and should probably get the belt sooner than later. Iwamoto was fine as usual but didn't really do much, gave all the offense to Abe which made for a pretty great showcase of the challenger. Match ended kind of abruptly which would make sense if their plan was to not go overboard and leave things open for a rematch.
Doragon Posted February 1, 2021 Posted February 1, 2021 New logo for NOAH again on Feb 12th, hope it's Gold this time around. 1

Beech27 Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 That match has been a strange sort of mile-marker in my wrestling fandom. I saw it when I was first getting into Japanese wrestling, and loved it. As I read more and got 'smarter', I learned that it was actually an empty spectacle, just two dudes welting each other. But then as I watched more and developed my own tastes, I discerned it was a spectacle full of the meaning the crowd gave it, and that two dudes welting each other is a great story. Or at least, it was then. If strike exchanges and fighting spirit chops have become a meme, I'm not inclined to blame Kobashi and Sasaki. 2
Spontaneous Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 I think the tag match from November with Shiozaki and Nakajima is a better match but the first match is a perfectly realized dream match. 2
Spontaneous Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 https://www.njpw1972.com/90292 Never Openweight six man titles match added to New Beginning on 2-11.
Curt McGirt Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 I rewatched Sasaki/Kobashi in 2x speed not long ago, and it was really amusing. Especially the chop battle. I should have found the Benny Hill music and played it along. 1
Doragon Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 GIANT BABA DEATH 23RD ANNIVERSARY MEMORIAL SHOW is tomorrow. I will post some pics of the show later. 2

I agree. Gave both *****. Sasaki/Nakajima vs. Kobashi/Shiosaki was my 2005 MOTY and that was a deep year. 1
Doragon Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 It was mentioned they may not do another one until 10 years later. Also the card is said to be various Baba eras and Muto era with the future combined into 1. 1
Jiji Posted February 4, 2021 Author Posted February 4, 2021 (edited) Shame no Jun on the card. That stinks. If it's 10 years from now, nobody from Baba's AJPW other than Fuchi will still be wrestling. I'm probably most excited for the Hansen/Baba hologram match. Oh shit, I just noticed it's Tiger Mask II in the 2nd match. Another hologram?! Edited February 4, 2021 by Jiji
The Natural Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 (edited) Throwback to Jay White's very brief first and only reign as IWGP Heavyweight Champion. He'll regain it. Edited February 4, 2021 by The Natural 2
Doragon Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 (edited) RJPW will honor 40 years of Tigermask 1, Tigermask hopes to get back in the ring but I expect he will drop most of his kick offense. I will post the card later. RJPW will debut and train their own Joshi. Edited February 4, 2021 by D.Z
