Montreal, Edmonton and Toronto are the only three Canadian cities still in the running to host games for 2026. Nobody else was willing to bend over and grab their ankles for FIFA.

So, stop me if you've heard this, but the IOC is in a world of trouble in choosing the host city for the next available Olympics.   Calgary has backed out of the '26 bids, so has every other Canadian city.   So, that leaves:

Stockholm:  Recently told the IOC to fuck itself with cost overrun demands. Additionally have a new city government that is not thrilled with the prospects of hosting.

Milan & Cortina: The government has said, sure, we'll do it but we "won't spend one euro" of the cities' money.

So the IOC better hurry up and give it to Milan quick before they can change their minds.

Skateboarding, surfing, climbing and breaking are now sports for the Paris 2024 Olympics

Baseball/Softball, Karate and Squash were told to go fuck themselves

EDIT - okay technically it won't be officially to the IOC approves but that seems like a formality

Oh man, that's a real bummer that baseball and softball aren't going to be olympic sports anymore. I know more than a few softball players who players who played for various colleges and they all had a shared dream of making it to the olympics. Losing karate sucks too.

It's cool that it looks like skateboarding will be added though.

Werent baseball & softball reinstalled basically to appease the Toyko games.?

Yes - Baseball/Softball and Karate are one offs during the Tokyo 2020 games

A) because of the popularity in the country

B) because they already have the infrastructure for baseball games

Most likely they will get a one off again for the 2028 LA games

But now, think of how much mileage we're gonna get in 2028 with all the Breakin' 2 jokes.

This thread is way too fucking long.  Will probably start a new one when the torch starts heading towards Japan.

ANYWAY...

Caster Semenya, who won the gold medal in 2008 and 2012 for South Africa in the 800m race, lost her case with the Court of Arbitration for Sport.   She was trying to reverse a recent rule change (basically written for her) that would require hyperandrogenous athletes to take medication to lower their testosterone levels.

Caster is not transgender though identifies as a lesbian, has a legitimate medical condition, and has been subjected to numerous tests regarding her sex.   So, you know, this sucks.  She's at least appearing to take it well:

After hearing David Epstein on a couple shows today, there is another appeal possible, to the Swiss Federal Tribunal (or such).

He mentioned the IAAF rule right now applies to certain length races, but oddly not field events as you might expect involving issues involving testosterone.

Also, there have been other intersex athletes that they have met with and, according g to Epstein, were told to retire without their cases being made as public as Caster.
