  1. Got caught up with the Fright Night franchise over the weekend. Here are my thoughts. Fright Night (1985) Long been one of my favorite vampire movies. Saw this one in the theater in it's initial theatrical run. Roddy McDowall and Chris Sarandon chew this film to shreds. Little for me to complain about. Fine story, looks nice, and the acting is solid. Other than that I have no questions. 9/10 Fright Night Part 2 (1988) Saw this one the theater back when it was new, but never had a chance to see it again. Didn't remember anything about this film. Follows the trend of so many sequels that copy the formula of the original. Luckily Roddy McDowall and William Ragsdale reprise their respective roles. Julie Carmen looks great and gives a good performance in the antagonist role here. 6/10 Fright Night (2011) Remake/Remodel. Most of the major set pieces are here, possibly in different order. Wikipedia lists this film as a comedy horror film, but I don't think it is in the Bad Taste/BrainDead style of horror/comedy that i think of. Just because there is humor does not mean it's a comedy. Saw the 2d version, so the 3d aspects didn't work adnd stood out when they occurred. Was prepared to blast this film until I watched the next film. 7/10 Fright Night 2: New Blood (2013) I had read synopsis on this film and was hoping they would rethink their strategy, but they didn't. This film is a reboot of the franchise. Charlie, Amy, and Ed are college students in Romania. Peter Vincent is the host of supernatural reality show "Fright NIght". Gerri Dandridge is played by Jamie Murray. The story is a mix of the original 2 films with some new twists thrown in. Echolocation anyone? I was shaking my head and talking to the film more than I like. 3/10
  2. I loved the slow burn of the episode. Doubt if April will be in the picture very long with the way Kenny tore into the tackle box at the end. Crazy Train should coming into station by next week.
  3. I don't watch much NBC, but have seen numerous MJ Fox Show spots. The only way I knew Parks and Rec. was back on was by checking my TV schedule app on my phone an hour before the show started.
  4. CBS seems to me to be trying way too hard with their comedies this year (e.g. Charlie has a daughter!). I want to watch the show with Anna Faris, but I'm on the fence. Liked The Goldberg's on ABC and Trophy Wife wasn't horrible, though I was in and out while it aired. Caught a few minutes of the end of the Marvel/Whedon/SHIELD show, but don't think I'm going to be into that show. Parks and Rec. took me by surprise, I had forgotten about it starting. I'm already melancholy over Lowe and Jones leaving. They're so damn good on the show. Loved the bit at the end with Ron going on Leslie's junket.
  5. Forgot to report on this one: Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013) Liked the intro with "flashbacks" from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), after that it was pretty much a mess. Lots of problems with continuity, or lack thereof, silly dialog, and the story. Once I got over the double turn at the beginning, I was fine. This is not a good movie, but enjoyable in the popcorn flick sense. Saw the regular version, no 3D for me. Nice cameos by Billy Moseley, Gunnar Hansen, and Marilyn Burns. The film itself looked and sounded fine. Some gore, maybe this qualifies as "torture porn" (my new favorite genre). Worth a (free) Redbox rental. 4/10
  6. I've been intrigued by some of the names listed in the synopsis, but have avoided it because of my hatred of Jaime Kennedy. Guess I'll avoid.
  7. The polarity of the neutron flow has been reversed.
  8. I would have preferred a tentacle whipping out instead of a hand.
  9. I'm not dense and got no message from the film. I only brought it up because of researching after watching Cabin. If they were trying to convey a message they failed. The thing I disliked the most about Cabin was the fact I figured the plot in 20 minutes, thereby losing any suspense concerning the "slasher" aspect of the film. Can anyone point me in the direction of a "torture porn" film? I hate the term so much I may start using TP instead. Don't make me break out the TP. I know what wikipedia says, but I don't like it much. The films of Lucio Fulci could be described as TP (HA!) using the definition there.
  10. Because in my experience, that's not something most people pick up on. I had to think about it for quite a bit myself.
  11. My favorite part of Cabin in the Woods was the zombie arm in the elevator. Seriously.
  12. I don't think horror is in Whedon's wheelhouse. Probably best he sticks to space opera/fantasy. I can totally see the college crowd getting into Cabin in a theatre.
  13. Phantom Offensive Pass Interference flag on the Raiders. I think that's about 5 flags on them in the first 6 minutes of the game.
  14. Watched a few flicks this weekend. Cabin in the Woods (2012) Heard lots of good about this movie. Kept waiting for it to hook me, but it never did. Sci-Fi movie wearing a horror disguise. Read some interviews with Goddard and Whedon where they talked about wanting to get away from the "torture porn" trend in current horror. I hate the term and the people that use the term, "torture porn". I did like the film, but a horror movie it was not. 6/10 The Innkeepers (2011) After Cabin in the Woods I was ready for something more traditional or substantial. What I got was a moderately paced ghost story. I liked the performances all around. The story and effects were fine. Liked this one more than Cabin, but only just. 7/10 Tucker and Dale vs Evil (2010) Enjoyable popcorn muncher. The horror/comedy genre is very hard to hit on, but they gave it a good shot. 6/10
  15. I don't own either Halloween II Blu's, but from the research I've done I found the Universal Blu has Terror in the Aisles with some deleted scenes versus Scream Factory's version with Making of Doc, deleted scenes, commentaries, and the kicker, for me at least, the tv cut of the film. If I had the funds to splurge right now, I'd get the Scream Factory version, but I'm nostalgic for that TV cut.
  16. I was so hoping the boat with the veterans would start taking on water while they were turning in circles as Kat and Colton screeched at each other. What was up with Gervase's stamina? I though dude was going to have a heat stroke or something with the way he was having trouble out in the water. A little too soon to be calling the first tribal elimination a "blind-side" don't you think? There's really no one I like on either tribe, yet.
  17. Maybe tomorrow they'll take away the win from Carl Edwards for passing Menard before the line.
  18. If Toys R Us has a sale on GTA V like they did on Injustice I may have to take the plunge. This game looks ridiculous.
  19. Watched John Dies at the End on Netflix last night. Now I'm kicking myself for waiting so long, because I loved the film. Another win for Coscarelli. So, in the past month I have seen 2 newish movies, John Dies and Dredd, and liked them both.
  20. I give the Paranormal Activity movies credit for turning me from the silent guy who analyzes everything about a movie to the guy cursing at the top of his lungs because they didn't answer one goddamn question. And my personal favorite is the 3rd film. Sorry.
  21. Let us know what you think about both Arkham games. You might enjoy the Arkham thread here as well. I've intentionally avoided that thread for fear of spoilers. Really enjoy the gameplay, so far. Haven't had a chance to play much in the last week or so, but I plan to do some catching up this weekend.
  22. A friend on my facebook feed actually posted that there are too many award shows for music anyway. For country music, maybe.
  23. Sad that I never got to see them live with Mr Lanier. R.I.P.
