  1. Just once, I want to see a contestant on a reality show, after they've gotten onto the show, just turnout to be a complete sarcastic asshole who refuses to go along with the producers' attempts to manufacture drama. Ex: A guy gets onto American Idol and during the audition he acts like all the other wannabes: eager to be on the show and starstruck by Lionel, Katy, ect., but then during the show itself they became antagonistic and cynical and during the "talking heads" segment he's just a total dick: "So we're filming this week's episode in Tahiti, and I got really *bleep* last night and hooked up with this insanely hot flight attendant from Poland, and then the producers wake me up at 5 in the god*bleep*nd morning and tell me I have to get dressed so they can film me watching the sunrise. And I'm like...'I never get up before 11 AM,' and they're like 'Well, you're gonna be in violation of the contest rules if you don't do this' so I get up and go down to the damned beach and watch the sunrise like some sort of tourist moron, and the whole time the producer is like, 'Could you please put down that bottle of scotch,' and I just pretend I can't hear her, because this is Old Smuggler and this stuff is really tough to find in the islands. And then I have to sit on that couch while the judges critique my performance from last night, and Lionel starts talking about how I need to show more emotion in my performance, and I just snap. Dude, you sang Dancing on the Ceiling. Fuck you if you think you you have any sort of advice you can give me. And then Katy starts trying to play peacemaker and calm things down, so I just go off on her. She gets all mad when I pull up tabloid photos of her without makeup on my cell phone and then the producers stop filming and tell me I need to leave. What the *bleep??!!!???"
  2. Would merging with MLS expose Chivas to U.S. labor law and force them to start signing foreign players?
  3. I always enjoyed his eye role as he introduced Barry O and said "from the FABULOUS *eye roll* Las Vegas, Nevada...."
  4. Hibbs long ago entered "old man yelling at clouds" stage in terms of how much influence he has in the industry. I don't think there's anyone in DC/Marvel retail who takes him seriously. Comics Beat tried to replace him with Brian Schatz, a retailer from Edmonton, but Schatz got into a dozen flame wars in the comments section and rarely contributes now.
  5. More of a "before they were famous" thing, but in Broken Lizard's Beerfest, the German beer team is comprised of Nat Faxon (won the Academy Award for writing the screenplay for The Descendants), Eric Christian Olson, and Will Forte. And James Roday has a brief cameo as a German delivery man.
  6. Okay, this video that Stardom posted this morning of Queen's Quest enjoying hibachi with Manabu Nakanishi is tremendous. The auto-translate makes it even better, it translated a sentence from Nakanishi as "No, I'm showing my body, it's healthy and I want or need legs."
  7. Meltzer going on and on about how Howard Finkel should have been allowed to continue ring announcing no matter how old he looked, and then he's constantly harping about how "such and such has a great look and should be in the main event" is really irritating me. Which one is it, Dave? Last I checked, we now live in an era where body shaming and judging people by their physical appearance is considered politically incorrect. That means that even if a guy has a beer gut, pasty skin, and man boobs, if he's a worker on the level of Misawa or has the charisma of Hogan, he should be a main event world champion.
  8. And yet these are the people who actually vote. We're gonna be seeing a lot of new governors, mayors, etc. in November.
  9. https://www.comicsbeat.com/shocker-dc-announces-return-to-shipping-comics-for-4-27-with-alternative-distributors/ DC is splitting with the near bankrupt Diamond.
  10. Vince making Ohno wear a singlet, with his gut, was just baffling. Just have the guy wear a t-shirt and long tights.
  11. Looks like the Patriots' new uniforms will be modeled after the color rush uniforms;
  12. Serious question: With all this talk about bad gimmicks and guys not being used correctly, who are the modern day Brad Armstrongs and Paul Diamonds? The guys who are good workers yet don't give a fuck? No matter how stupid the gimmick, as long as the check clears, they're gonna make it work. Paul Diamond actually volunteered to be Max Moon, and it was his idea to become the masked Venom in Shawn Michaels' indy promotion And from every story I've heard about Brad, he was perfectly fine being The Candy Man, Arachnaman, and Badstreet. Gotta earn that paycheck, brother.
  13. Upon further digging, it was Vida Scott. She deleted the video, but she was pretty upset she never got a shot at the big time.
  14. Bryan Alvarez: "So Dave, let's talk about last night's ratings. AEW saw the lowest ratings ever with an eight man tag main event of The Elite: Cody, Kenny, and the Young Bucks against the ex-WWE guys: Ryder, Hawkins, Rowan, and Lio Rush. This is not a good sign." Dave Meltzer: "Yeah...the thinking was that these guys had been misused by Vince and that they would be massively over with the AEW smart marks, but these guys just did so many jobs in WWE that nobody is buying them as any sort of threat."
  15. Got hired as a cashier at Safeway just so I actually have something to do during this damnable shelter in place. Money isn't enough to cover rent or car payments, but at least I can afford groceries now.
  16. re: The Princess Bride That synthesizer score, though....
  17. Nothing against Mike Mills personally, but that interview with Jim Cornette was like The Chris Farley Show.
  18. Not to be morbid, but when the time comes how many people will confuse Keith David and David Keith?
  19. I won't try to cut and paste Web Conn's entire post, but to wit: Gallows & Anderson: As has been noted elsewhere, they resigned with WWE because they didn't want to travel to Japan anymore. Bullet Club has also changed dramatically since they left and is now primarily the Tongans and Jay White, not much room for Doc & Gallows. Eric Young is "just a guy." Ryder & Hawkins have been made to look like such geeks, I can't even picture the AEW hardcores getting all excited over them. NWA is paying peanuts to their current crew, and Dave Lagana has said on WOR that if they can't get an eventual TV deal, Billy Corrigan intends to simply cancel the show. I can't imagine a crew of jobber geeks like No Way Jose, Rockstar Spud, the Colons, English, Slater, etc. all boosting NWA's viewing numbers. Quite the opposite, in fact. Kurt Angle is basically crippled, and has said that he is in near constant pain from all the injuries he's suffered and really can't work anymore.
  20. One thing I haven't seen anybody talk about is the psychological impact all these cuts are having on indy guys who were hoping that they'd get signed by one of the big companies in the near future. I can't remember her name off the top of my head, but about a month ago some female indy worker, who did a few shots for RoH years ago, had a meltdown on social media on how she was 36 and had never gotten a whiff from NXT or IMPACT or a full-time offer from RoH. For her and a bunch of indy workers, it has to be hitting them that they won't be getting tryout offers anytime soon, especially with all these guys about to flood the indy scene and drive down their pay.
  21. Dennehy looked to be in really bad shape on Rizzoli & Isles, so this isn't too surprising. He rarely gave a bad performance, he was one of those character actors like Christopher Lee where, if the paycheck cleared, you're getting a quality performance without complaint, no matter how shitty the movie. It would have been funny, however, if the headline read: Brian Dennehy, bad guy in Legal Eagles, dies.
  22. Anyone know whatever happened to RYOKO from the early Kaientai Dojo shows? She seems to have fallen off the face of the Earth.
  23. Kong is a name to the "hardcore" crowd that AEW is targeting. She's remembered as the last gaijin to hold the WWWA "World" title in All Japan Women, but she didn't boost attendance and they cut her reign short and put the belt back on Ayako Hamada. After that, she's remembered mostly for her run in TNA. Her run in WWE is something that even she would probably like to forget. Beyond that, she's a "name" from GLOW and that works well for her in her limited role in AEW. She really can't work anymore because she's so beat up, but you can use her as a gatekeeper to whoever is slotted to win the AEW women's title.
