Here's a good question in light of UFC last night. How come the pre-Vince Jr WW(W)F never had an Irish World Champion? -

Hennig was a regular squash guy in early 80s WWF. He was treated one step above the regular squash victims on commentary and put over as a promising young wrestler, and would usually get some offense in. Eddie Gilbert was in the same spot and he and Hennig teamed quite regularly. -
Things worked out well for UFC, McGregor vs Mendes was a massive success, likely only marginally less so than Aldo vs McGregor would have been, and now they still have that fight to do in the future. And I strongly believe that that fight will either break the record set by UFC 100 or come very close to doing so. And then if McGregor wins that, they have a stadium show in Ireland next summer that will break more records.

JULY 2015 WRESTLING DISCUSSION V.2.0

Speaking of WCW: -
It wasn't SummerSlam, it was Vengeance. That was a bizzarre day here. There were MASSIVE floods around the area where I live, my dad's best mate was knocked down and killed during the downpour, I had to wade across a river (where there isn't normally a river) to get home from work, and then later that night, just before I was going to bed IIRC, all the Benoit stuff comes out.

Since it's the 8 year anniversary of the tragedy, I thought I'd post this article from the UK's "Chat" magazine. It's as bad as you might think:

Wasn't Nikolai revealed to be Lithuanian after he turned face after the iron curtain came down? Should be either the old CCCP flag or the Lithuanian flag for him. Great T shirt though! -

Plus blonde hair had implications of effeminacy back then. -
I've always thought there was a reason why the Observer archives on the site only go back as far as 1990.
-
So has Todd Martin quit the Observer site or is just some bullshit story?

ECW Barely Legal was 18 years ago today. Fuck I'm getting old. But I can still state that the Michinoku Pro 6-man from that event is still one of my favourite matches of all time. Far better than the Dragon Gate 6-man in ROH that got critically lauded everywhere.

Who is the biggest name wrestler not to have a wikipedia page? I'll start with Don Fargo as I just finished his book and he's not on there.

I'd be interested in hearing what this is like. It is just mainly just clippings and match results? -
I think that picture is a good 10-15 years old.

How big a name was John Madden before the Madden videogame series? Seems weird that his name is still attached to the games when all the other EA Sports titles are just NBA, FIFA, NHL, NASCAR etc. Is he grandfathered in for as long as he lives? Or is it case of the name being so established they don't want to change it?

Just noticed that Don Fargo's The Hard Way is finally out on Kindle. Bought it immediately, been looking forward to reading it for a while. Usually buy the physical copies of Crowbar Press's books but the postage from the US has got ridiculous lately.
