IHFP Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 28 is a fine age. Old enough to present maturity, young enough project vigor. Anyway. There's no WWE Omnibus thread so I'll stick this here. WWE stock price rose almost 10% today, which is a staggering move all things considered. I figured something related to TV negotiations were announced, but all I could find was that ESPN rejected doing business with them. Did any actual news emerge today, or is this just a case of efficient marketz? News were saying they would select a deal on March 4th, the fact it's up 10% must mean someone has inside news about the deal.
rovert Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I don't read any dirtsheets, I'm fucking 28 years old I don't need to know backstage dirt about professional wrestling. Yet you are commenting on backstage dirt in a thread called Wrestling Observer/Meltzer Ominbus Thread and not for the first time. Tremendous logic as always. 1
Robert Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I don't understand why they feel compelled to do shows at 1am anyways. On Mondays I assume it's because they are both on the west coast and watch RAW later. Other days I imagine Dave has family obligations and the only convenient time to record is when everyone is sleeping.

It found its way into the public domain like everything else rubes like you pay for. Your hero looked stupid and we have a dedicated thread to point out how stupid he looked. And look how easy it is for you to defend him! Far easier than trawling twitter looking for 14 year old TNA fanboys to belittle.
Ryan Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I think part of it is because Dave basically never sleeps normal hours anyway and never has.
MADCAP Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I find it amusing that Rovert is the one person around here that can turn FSW into a Carelord.
Fat Spanish Waiter Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I find it amusing that Rovert is the one person around here that can turn FSW into a Carelord. I would say the opposite is true in Rovert's case because he's a bizarre, deranged man, but there are a few others on here. Phantom Lord, Odessasteps, any of the Chicago crew after the Bears win a game, Burgundy. I basically hate everyone.

Your hero looked stupid and we have a dedicated thread to point out how stupid he looked. Except "it" didn't the newzsite account of what he said was genuinely inaccurate. Despite that you are still holding on the idea he looked stupid. Simply amazing. I am glad you didn't defend your previous post as that was rather something. I basically hate everyone. Edgey stuff. Again ridiculing someone on the basis on something didn't actually report is really very strange. While claiming you don't can't about backstage stuff is even stranger.

Is it stranger than spending hours finding people criticising Meltzer on Twitter and attacking them? 2
rovert Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Is it stranger than spending hours finding people criticisingMeltzer on Twitter and attacking them? I don't criticise people who are factually correct for the most part, FSW. Also stalking my Twitter is rather odd too. Again you were were incorrect in your account of what Meltzer said seemingly based on you reading newzsites. You are too stubborn/dumb to admit or realise that one. I will take you avoiding commenting on that as a sign of justbeing stubborn about being corrected.

I will take you avoiding commenting on that as a sign of justbeing stubborn about being corrected. I don't stalk it, you constantly pop up on the recommended people to follow list. And I look at it because you're hilarious. You actually respond to other people's tweets that have nothing to do with you and aren't addressed to you for the sole purpose of defending Meltzer's honor and ragging on other dirtsheets. It blows my mind. What possible results do you even hope to achieve? You think people will think twice about laughing at Herb because you are buzzing around the internet, searching for people to unleash the leprechauns of war onto? You think Herb gives a fuck what people think? The man did a spread in a major publication that showed he works in an office buried in paper, videotapes and other shit. He doesn't need you saving him. As for what he said? I don't read any of his stuff so I'll take your word for it that I'm wrong. Congrats. Add me to your list of vanquished foes. Now that you've white knighted for Meltzer again, do you think he'll sleep with you?
rovert Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 It is Friday and yet you are still unsure on what Dave said. Eep. The anti-Irish thing you often do is super cringey. I'll ignore the more deranged, bizarre grudge aspects of your post and let it speak for itself. As for what he said? I don't read any of his stuff so I'll take your word for it that I'm wrong. Congrats. Add me to your list of vanquished foes. Done.

Could you be that self-aware? Seems unlikely.
Elsalvajeloco Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Victator's reply on the last page reminded me that Bryan seriously asked Chael about a potential fight between CM Punk and Wanderlei Silva. That's definitely more shameful than whatever the hell rovert and FSW are arguing about. 1
Ryan Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Their forbidden love seems to be the gist of things, but I'm probably wrong. I think Punk could take him!
Petey Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 IMO people are finally realizing that pro wres is awesome. I think this is probably a strong reason. I've noticed that it seems like A) a lot of my friends who used to like wrestling when it was at the height of its popularity but stopped watching in 2001 or 2002, seem to be checking out Raw more often and B ) the negative stigma that used to surround wrestling is really dissipating. I think a lot of that is because being a "nerd" or liking "nerdy" things is now viewed as "cool" or at least is more of a social norm than it was even 15 years ago. Suddenly, most people don't view those who read tons of comic books or play a ton of video games or are really tech savvy as socially backwards. I might be completely wrong and I really have no evidence to back it up other than the very small sample size of my personal Facebook and Twitter, but it sounds reasonable. 1
Petey Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 That's true, but I still stand by what I said about wrestling becoming more mainstream relevant than it was in say, 2003, and for the reasons I mentioned even if it's not totally responsible for the stocks increasing.
Antacular Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I would wholeheartedly disagree. Unless you grew up watching wrestling, you're very unlikely to start watching it once you enter your 20s+ in today's day and age. UFC has captured that demographic completely. It's MMA has that has become more mainstream. If anything, the PG-era is an attempt to hook the kiddies at a very young age so Dana doesn't scoop up any more.
Hagan Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Petey is 100% correct From my purely empirical experience, people have a lot more awareness of what's going on with wrestling than they did, like, the mid-2000s. Stuff like the Rock coming, the somewhat Internet/nerd pop-culture crossover of guys like Punk/Jericho/Cena, the increasing ubiquity of the WWE-brand all over things...I'm not saying a boon period is imminent but there's definitely more awareness of what's going on, I think. A really interesting question is is this the first time that wrestling has been folded into nerd pop-culture? In the 80s it was little kids, the 90s was that more testosterone-driven teen male jock thing (basically, the idea was mean-spirited dumb males), now, it seems, that being a hardcore wrestling fan is seen as being akin to like really being into Walking Dead, or Game of Thrones or any sort of accepted nerd-fandom. I mean, I was at Pensacon here in town a few weeks back and along with all the comic book guys and Star Wars dudes, there was a pretty big line for Honky Tonk, the Hammer and the Barber. I don't mean to get all Masked Man there, but it seems like wrestling is a little more hipster nerd than it used to be. I mean, shit...half the bartenders here in town look like Daniel Bryan or CM Punk. 1
cool arrow Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 From today's update: 1982 - Here's a weird match, Jimmy Valiant beat Jesse Ventura in the finals of a Cadillac tournament in Toronto What's even weirder is that it's a good match!
Hagan Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Oh...and not being combative but the line "if you didn't watch wrestling as a kid" is intriguing because...I'm 32, so I was a kid in the 80s and I can't imagine any person in my age-range who, at least for a short time, didn't watch WWF. It really was such an integral part of 80s culture. And, if you were a kid (and kid is a nebulous term) in the 90s, you'd have to work hard to miss the Monday Night Wars. Really...I mean the Dark Years for wrestling since 84 have been, what 91-96, and, let's say 2002-2008ish (I'd say post-Benoit and the clean-up of mainstream wrestling and the, at least public, decrease of drugs and deaths were when the WWE began to creep back into mainstream acceptance after the stain of the Attitude Era and the stigma of the deaths and drug use). It really is remarkable. The Benoit thing, and the ensuing fall-out and ALL the overdoses and deaths should have been a killer for the industry, but the WWE somehow spun things to where they're a benevolent, charitiable organization. On a completely other note, the whole "I guess CM Punk is done with wrestling" talking point that Bryan and co. (not Dave) talk about is so stupid. No one who isn't medically cleared is ever done. Whether or not it's six months or a year or two years or whenever, he'll be back somewhere doing something. They seemed to have this idea of "well, he didn't come to Chicago Raw so I guess he's done with wrestling forever." It's such overreactive pandering. We live in a worldl where Shawn Michaels was done in his mid-30s and headed to an early death from partying and he came back to have an entire second-career.
T.Rex-n-effeckx Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 The idea that WWE stock prices (or for that matter any stock prices) are connected to rational decision makers with acces to good information is laughable.I would like to remind everyone of the International Fight League stocks in 2006. 1
Antacular Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 On an otherwise unremarkable day-to-day basis? Of course. But a 10% jump in a single session? Unlikely.
