The Natural Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 Stats: Carlos Alcaraz became only the eighth player to win the first four Grand Slam men's singles finals of his career. He is just the second in the Open Era, which began in 1968, to achieve the feat after Roger Federer, who won the first seven Slam finals he contested. Alcaraz is the ninth man in the Open Era to retain his Wimbledon title and the sixth to triumph at the French Open and All England Club in the same year. At 21 years and 70 days, he is the youngest player in the Open Era to do the Roland Garros-Wimbledon double in the same calendar year. The Spaniard is also the third-youngest player in the Open Era to retain his Wimbledon title, following Boris Becker (18 years, 227 days) and Bjorn Borg (21 years, 26 days). This was only Novak Djokovic's third loss in a Wimbledon final. This was only Novak Djokovic's fifth loss in straight sets in a Grand Slam final.
ohtani's jacket Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 Finally, somebody else has stepped up to the plate. Hopefully, we'll see a nice little battle between Sinner and Alcaraz for the year-end No.1. 1

You really think the first Italian #1 seed, I think ever, is going to banned from a tournament in New York? That said, when he plays Djokovic, the amount of hand wringing from the announcers is going to be gross. Meanwhile the crowd will be 105% behind him. 1
The Natural Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Britain's Dan Evans produced an astonishing comeback to win the longest match in US Open history as he beat Russia's Karen Khachanov in five hours and 35 minutes. Evans, 34, was 4-0 down in the decider but somehow found the mental and physical strength to win 6-7 (6-8) 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-4. Each set was a battle of attrition with lengthy games and multiple break opportunities, all lasting over an hour: Set 1 - 68 minutes. Set 2 - 67 minutes. Set 3 - 72 minutes. Set 4 - 67 minutes. Set 5 - 61 minutes. With both players gasping for breath, Evans secured victory in a match which surpassed the previous US Open record - set by Stefan Edberg and Michael Chang in the 1992 semi-finals - by nine minutes. The Natural Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Defending US Open Champion Novak Djokovic out in the third round, his earliest exit at the tournament in 18 years. Djokovic lost in four sets to the 28th seed, Alexei Popyrin. It means 2024 is the first year since 2017 Novak hasn't won a Grand Slam. Novak's highlight of the year was winning Olympic Gold completing the Golden Slam in singles after Steffi Graf (the only one to do it in the same year), Andre Agassi, Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal.
ohtani's jacket Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 The Olympics really messed with Djokovic and Alcaraz's prep for this Grand Slam, but it's a huge opportunity for someone else . 1
odessasteps Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Also now first time in 22 no Grand Slam wins for Federer, Novak or Nadal.
sabremike Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 Something both sad and predictable are the stories about players being harassed on social media due to the proliferation of gambling. Even sadder is seeing these stories on broadcasts where they specifically do everything they can to avoid mentioning why the harassment is occurring.
The Natural Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 22 time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal has announced he'll retire at the Davis Cup in Malaga this year.
