Well Verizon still uses MPEG-2 containers with H.262 for FiOS, which keeps it at 720. They do it because they claim they're near QAM compacity, although they could clear it up killing off most of the duped SD channels they carry (like Cablevision did). Course, Verizon has been cleaning up their tiers the past few weeks and seem to have a lot of channels opened up, since I know they're switching codecs over to MPEG-4 pt 10 with H.264 codecs after the Quantum TV rollout is over. Course, most companies could solve this problem by getting rid of the QAM shit completly and go to IPTV, but that requires a hardcore hardware upgrade that's expensive.

They don't even fully do that. Curve is supposed to be a "immersion" gimmick, and doesn't even do that well. You can go UHD if you want (I'd recommend waiting at least until Vizio drops theirs in the fall), but you're only getting the full benifit with the UHD players and discs. It'll be over a decade before we start getting UHD through service providers,so stick with regular HD stuff for now.

Short answer, Cristobal's answer. Long answer, Just about every network/TV studio just finished upgrading to 1080p30 kit, and that was really expensive to do. No way they're going to start doing kit upgrades across the board for a higher resolution now, they're going to wait until the current kit starts breaking down and goes officially End of Life, and even then, they'll stretch it out long as possible. Also, the codecs necessary to compress/decompress a 4000k video without it being massive and not crashing aren't out yet, and would require industry wide upgrades to equipment to use them anyway. That, and most cable/sattilite systems would have to do a massive overhaul of their QAM bands to carry the stations. So yeah, we're not getting UHD TV across the board anytime in the next decade. Shit, we technically still don't have HD across the board yet.

I always contend that Colin got a shit deal during his season run.

I know when I was in high school, at the beginning of the season, they'd certify us at a hard lowest weight allowed. They basically weighted us, then used that, height, and BFP to determine the lowest weight class we were allowed to wrestle at. That all went to the State Commishion and if we tried to sneak in a class lower and we got caught, match foreited and an automatic 2 meet ban. But even in High School, we were doing whacked out shit to cut weight, most of which are unheard of now (like no water during practice), And doing that shit fucks you up horribly. I went *very* little food/water for 3 days before weigh in (which was 1 hour before meet start) and was in shit shape. Tried a gradual cut down over a month with steady diet/water and was 100% fine. I guess the moral is, competitors should know how to cut down and do it responsibility, so that it doesn't affect your performance.
