  1. Pro wrestling is "fan" mail.
  2. I threw in the towel and got the PS3/GTAV bundle at lunch... will hop on tomorrow night while the SO takes her friend out for dinner. Thanks, JERKS.
  3. Anyone else think it'd be silly for Mariano to play at all this weekend, much less in the outfield like Girardi was teasing? Sounds like a really dopey way to wrap up your career.
  4. Didn't Regal actually, you know, hold the European title? Or was it a different belt?
  5. Saw Total Recall in Times Square at midnight the Friday it came out. You have never seen a rowdier, higher crowd for a movie. There was a giant HAZE of grass smoke in the whole theater.
  6. Guess who's back... back again... Sabboth's back... tell a friend...
  7. AWESOME
  8. That'd be a fun thread to start. Post a photo of someone, and whoever IDs him/her can post the next photo to ID.
  9. 13 years ago today. NEVER FORGET.
  10. My guess is Bhagwan Rajneesh had enough stroke in the state that they didn't want to take the chance of offending him. I'll ask on the Portland FB group.
  11. Hokie Stone. Because of course.
  12. Loved how the main event played out after dreading the idea of the Shield burning through a 3-on-11 handicap, but it's really annoying that they blew off Reigns eating a pinfall with ZERO BUILD. The guy's been in the company for almost a full year without getting pinned, and they don't play that little tidbit up at all until AFTER it happens. To me that was easily the most bass-ackward part of the match.
  13. Seeing that the Brooklyn show was held in a room like this makes me love indy wrestling even more.
  14. Every time I see this photo I get the giggles because it looks like he's auditioning for American Idol. I picture him belting out "Girl on Fire" in a falsetto.
  15. Read The Summer of Beer and Whiskey over the weekend by Ed Achorn, about the 1883 American Association season. Fun read that makes a very serious case for the Baseball HOF inclusion of Chris Von der Ahe, the St. Louis Brown Stockings owner. Described as a cross between George Steinbrenner, Bill Veeck and Charlie Finley, Von der Ahe was a German immigrant who parlayed his St. Louis saloon into multiple institutions including the baseball team, turning his Brown Stockings (now the Cardinals) into a late 1800s baseball powerhouse and quite possibly saving the game itself in the process by making it more affordable for fans, playing on Sundays in defiance of blue laws and allowing beer and alcohol sales. Charismatic, bombastic, abrasive, buffoonish and incredibly generous seemingly all at the same time, he was wildly popular at the time and now is a regrettably overlooked figure, a footnote to the sport who deserves much more.
  16. Have to say that for all the folks talking about how United are a one-man club whose fortunes depend on RVP playing or not, you could say the same thing about City... and that man is Vincent Kompany. Put it like this, without him on the field we aren't shutting out Manchester freaking United in open play and cruising to CL road victories. He is/was a fucking beast, quite possibly the best defender in the world and probably the best purchase of the new regime. Went to the Hatter yesterday wearing a shirt that probably hadn't fit me since they were still playing at Maine Road, had a glorious time with 150 of my fellow city peeps including the SO, who had a blast and is going to start researching City so she can really start following them as well, and even got on TV for a few seconds after the match ended (NBCSN had camera crews at the Hatter and I imagine Nevada's). It would've been a fabulous day even if we didn't BEAT THE RAGS LIKE THE DOGS THEY ARE.
  17. Fuck 'em. I say if they win the Series this year, they rent the pool for the D-Backs home opener and have a bunch of guys there in full Dodger unis hanging out with the trophy floating around on an inner tube.
  18. God bless Masa. The dude loves wrestling and has more than enough money to indulge in it.
