Woo-hoo! I'm teaching three courses in the fall term and also have a part-time publishing position. It's gonna be busy as hell but it'll be nice to be a real earner for a change.

When Capaldi got the role, I started watching Doctor Who. But, fair enough. like you said, I think just as much/even more depends on the showrunner.

Well on the face of it the new Doctor lacks the oddness we generally associate with DW actors, so I'm interested to see what her performance will be like.

I think he wrote some awful first season episodes and some pretty good second season episodes. I think the miniseries were pure RTD.

His DW episodes are pretty bland.

A couple of chapters into The Expendable Man. It's terrific so far. Dorothy B. Hughes needs to be in any discussion of hardboiled fiction. In a Lonely Place is fantastic as well (and the excellent film adaptation diverges from it in a profound way).

I got contacted about a (part-time, term-limited) job today and a round of positive reader reviews for a book so yeah pretty swell news today.

I both totally enjoyed the finale (to my mind one of the best finales they've done) and concur with pretty much every criticism I've heard. Capaldi isn't the best actor to play The Doctor (a list that technically includes John Hurt), but I'm confident that he did the best acting as the Doctor.

I say this as someone who hasn't actually watched AJPW in a long time, but FWIW the upcoming singles match between Doering and Miyahara seems like bad booking--I assume that you'd want Miyahara to bounce back from his title loss and Doering to re-establish himself following his injury.

I am pissed ELECTRA GLIDE IN BLUE isn't on iTunes. This would have been the perfect excuse to finally watch it, but now I can't find a copy.

I'd say it treats wrestling more seriously than most sitcoms treat the careers of their main characters.
